The 3 year run from 1982-1984 of their debut album, Listen, and Story of a young heart are some of the best albums ever made. I edited it because i didn't mention the first album. That was the most iconic considering the most recognizable songs came from that album. That's the only reason why i didn't bring it up but honestly those 3 years were the peak of new wave. In general too
This song reminds me of when the Terminator was beating "Ginger's" boyfriend and "pugsley" leaped near "Ginger" right before T-minator put 5 rounds in "Ginger".
They're not your friends, and James is spot on, they have no taste...This song, and a AFOS, are awesome...Your post is from 8 years ago, hopefully your "so called friends" have matured, no longer have tunnel vision, and broadened their scope to the wide range of wonderful music in the world.
Been looking for this video for like 40 years. Their entire first album tells the story of an alien invasion of earth. This track is from their second album, Listen, however. BTW, they were the first band I ever saw live, at the Pink Knob Music Theater in Michigan. The Fixx opened up for them.
No, this song was their first single. ""(It's Not Me) Talking" is the debut single by British new wave band A Flock of Seagulls, originally recorded in 1981. It was re-recorded in 1983 and is featured on their second album Listen. The song is about a man who hears voices in his head, who believes that he is being contacted by aliens from outer space, and who cannot run away from his emotions; wherever he goes, the voice is there."
My favourite Flock of Seagulls song. Much as I love 'I Ran', 'Wishing;' etc., the band had so many other great songs, and this is my favourite: As well as the 50s sci-fi aesthetic and narrative, I love the punchy beat - so catchy. It should've been a bigger hit.
Never even knew there was a video for this track! man Paul Reynolds was a BEAST! i still have to go like 40 years into the past in order to hear the future.
I WAS FINISHING UP MY ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING DEGREE WHEN THIS SONG DEBUTED. THAT SAME SUMMER I WAS BUMMING AROUND AND BECAME A PLUMBER AND HAVE BEEN IN PLUMBER EVER SINCE HERE IN NEW YORK CITY. I WAS RECENTLY GOING OVER THE PAPERWORK IN MY MOTHER'S HOUSE AND FOUND MY ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING DEGREE AND SHOWED IT TO MY DAUGHTER WHO JUST ENTERED COLLEGE AND IT SHOCKED HER, THAT I POSSESS THIS TYPE OF DEGREE. SADLY I NEVER TOOK THE PATH GOD WANTED ME TO TAKE. BLESSED WITH A MUSICAL TALENT THAT CAN IMPRESS THE BEST IN THE WORLD. I SAW A FLOCK OF SEAGULLS LAST NIGHT OUT IN LONG ISLAND AT THE SUFFOLK THEATER. HAD A FRONT ROW BESIDE STAGE FRONT TABLE WITH MY BROTHER AND SISTER IN LAW.
Paul Reynolds joined A Flock of Seagulls (at the age of seventeen) a few months after the band was formed to replace original guitarist Willie Woo.The group's popularity soared in the early 1980s with the release of "(It's Not Me) Talking," and in 1982 the song "I Ran (So Far Away)" was a hit in the US and at home. By the time he was twenty-one, the band had released an album, won a Grammy Award, got two more hit singles, and did a worldwide tour. Reynolds, whose "textural wash" contributed significantly to the group's sound, was praised for his "echo-laden" "unique guitar style", which differentiated Flock of Seagulls from other synth-heavy bands of the period. Reynolds left the band in 1984, after the release of The Story of a Young Heart, two years before the band broke up. When it was reformed in 1989 by singer Mike Score, Reynolds and the remaining members decided not to rejoin. Reynolds and his fellow ex-members did, however, reunite with Score for a one-off performance in London in 2003 for VH1's Bands Reunited television program. The band performed their hits "I Ran" and "Space Age Love Song" in front of a staged audience arranged by the program's production team. Before the performance, Reynolds was interviewed about why he left the band; he claimed that he was too young for the "rock 'n' roll lifestyle" and that he was exhausted from all of the performances.[citation needed] Since leaving Flock of Seagulls, Reynolds has been playing guitar with jazz bands in England.
+snowywhite That's really good info, thanks. I met Paul once when I was gigging around (unsuccessful!) bands in the mid/late 80s post Flock in Liverpool and he was a lovely down to earth bloke and very interesting to talk to. Great to hear he is still playing.
To think a song which is about 40 years old sounds more fresh and original than most of the rubbish that is released today. Yeah I’m a grumpy Middle aged old fart who is stuck in his 90s teens years.
When I was a kid, we didn't have cable or MTV, so the only time I saw music videos was on a daily music video show which was on every day after school for half an hour. They showed this video as the last, closing credits song a few times, so I never got to see the whole thing, which really irritated me, because I thought it was such a cool video! Finally got to see the whole thing in the mid-90s. I always loved this song, though, especially since I was really into UFOs.
This is HOT! As a late postwar baby of the Greatest Generation.....I brought a lot of joy to my 55 year old mom during the 80's with the great music like this. Late Cold War/Berlin Wall/nuclear arms race was SMOKIN' HOT AT THE DISCOS AND CLUBS!
Isaw this band early 80s in Sheffield , when they started playing the floor shook WOW ,,,,I still adore them ,,,,, until eternity ,,,,these fellas are pure genius lol to all fans x

I was a huge fan then (I was 18) and I loved the synths, guitar, lyrics ..the whole futuristic vibe ...I was obsessed 🙂👍💯 still love their music. Guitar really was freaking awesome
What does your comment even mean? You are speaking about this band as if they were never popular and didn’t have international hits. 🤣 The world wasn’t ready? Okay, except that they were really popular and won awards and stuff. LOL.
Flock of seagulls. Made a album in 2020. Featuring London symphony orchestra. The album features all there tracks mixed with a symphony. It's a great album for fans to enjoy.
One of my favorites by Flock of Seagulls.. Excellent tune with a Contact vibe.. tongue-in-cheek but precedes the movie by quite a few years.. love the Sci fi cosmos, alien encounter message..
The man wearing the fedora* @ 0:58 and ~1:32 is doing some excellent acting!! [*Frank Maudsley] A slice of the fun, creative '80's. Damn where did that go?
You know....they had more going for them than 'I Ran,; 'Wishing,; and 'Space Age Lovesong!!!' They are truly the ultimate New Wave band.

80's. Glad i was part of it.
Best decade ever
And me I was born 1968 so the 80s was my era
Too short
Truer words were never spoken
I thank God regularly g ft or being young in the 80’s. Of all times in history - we were chosen. 🙏🏻
Paul is amazing. He was way ahead of his time. Love him
He was my uncle at some point
❤I agree and worship him well😊❤
My new favorite song...40 years later 😉🥳
I heard Mike say recently that they wrote music for this era, meaning 80's music for the 2020's. Maybe he understands non linear time.
Liaten to Paul's work on Standing in the Doorway. That boy was a genius at blending hard giitar riffs with up tempo synth!
The original Flock was soo good, Reynolds was at the forefront of their signature sound
Paul Reynolds was such a great guitarist, and he was so young at the time!
Marcus Vinicius Garrett Chiado even now he looks young xD
Marcus Vinicius Garrett Chiado I agree he's great he was very good
Still is
He was just 17 when he joined the band. He's 20 or 21 in this video though.
The way he plays ONE NOTE!!🎵 🎵🎵🎵🎶🎶🔥🔥🔥🔥
I love the deep synth and bass in between the vocals in the verses. What an atmospheric piece
