I love how Luffy's appearance immediately changes the scene. We view One Piece from Luffy's eyes. That's why it looks so cheery and vibrant even if it's depressing. But whenever it's a flashback that's not Luffy's, the colors used aren't as bright. Sure that could just be tone but it also shows how terrible the world is from a rational person's view. But when Luffy appears, he brings you to his world. That's why the sky lit up in his presence. And why in the Fan Letter, when he says Set Sail, the girl's eyes widen like she's being sucked in again and she sees Nami.
Another thing that I noticed is that how the girl sees the Strawhats upside-down. So instead of going to the bottom of the ocean, for the girl, the strawhats are rising up like a dawn for the world
I find it really amazing that for the series, showing Luffy, it's bright and sunny, it is a happy moment after all. However, for Fan Letter, they decided that it would be dark and dreary. For that little girl, this is now a horrible day and it just keeps getting worse. Until Luffy punches the Pacifista so hard that all of the dust scatters, bringing back the sun. It is an amazing visual. I can't help but cry. I can't wait 6 months, to see Luffy vs the Gorosei get animated. I can't wait for more and more sun depictions to be made. Luffy is the dawn and I hope that one day we can follow his example to the new world ahead.

The pacing in the first 100 episodes was some of the best because it adapted around 2-3 chapters per episode. This was partly due to the manga's first saga being around 100 chapters long, so it's not just an anime thing-early on, the manga also had some pacing issues. For example, Romance Dawn spans 3 episodes but only covers 7 chapters in the manga, and Orange Town is around 7-9 episodes while covering 14 chapters in the manga.
When I see the terror of the Marines, I understand more and more why the hero Garp and Chief Admiral Sengoku took on Shiki in a 2vs1 instead of a simple 1vs1. Not only to capture him alive, but to limit collateral damage. They were responsible for both HQ and the marines on site.
