*Bought a 500 for an ultralight rod. It's very smooth **enjoyable.fishing** recommend casts great. One odd thing- the bale wire is a bit heavy diameter in my opinion for a reel of this size. But a great purchase.*
Nice review. I am purchasing a Vanford right now. I owned a Stella and hated it. Not because it didn’t perform well, but because it didn’t perform to the price difference. I also felt it hindered my fishing. I was being distracted by “feeling” for the reel performance, and also being overly careful with it. I do a lot “boondock” kayak fishing, always exploring to find the places people haven’t fished before. My equipment takes a beating and I have to be ok with that.
You will love it. I think it's the best reel I've owned, and I didn't think it could get better than the original Ci4. It casts further, has an amazing drag and the feel and how light it is, well it's awesome. Cheers and hope ya catch your PB.
I live in Japan, have had 3 Stellas, 2000-3000 series, and 4 Twin Powers (a couple of 1000s, and a couple of heavier dolphin-ready saltwater sizes 4000 and 6000). I've sold two of the Stellas, and the small Twin Powers ... not because I didn't like them, but because I am heading towards ultralight in my old age. I just mentioned this because as good as the Stellas are, even the smallest is too heavy for freshwater ultralight. I think you will be happier with the Vanford. I made a switch to Daiwa's Luvias 2020 model, the 2000 because it is so light, but user maintenance is next to impossible, and it has a high start up inertia. It is a bonafide ultra light, but I wish I had waited for the Vanford.
Yeah, buying 1000 size stella or twin power for finnese is a big mistake. I hope vanford would perform almost as good as vanquish. I doubt daiwa luvias 2020 will have lighter rotor than stradic ci4+ plus that monocoque body would make self maintenance impossible so a big nope for me to spend my money on luvias
We fish a lot alike then Steve. I LOVE fishing ultralight, including tarpon and snook fishing on the coast and also bass fishing. I've noticed a big difference in casting distance, and the drag is SMOOTH. I'VE LOVED Ci4 but the Vanford is all that it's made out to be. Cheers Steve and hope ya sub;d.
The Vanford is EXCEPTIONAL. I like fishing ultralight gear and this 2500 is about as good as anything I've used. Small tarpon and snook and bass, well it is handling everything amazing. And I have noticed a big difference in casting distance. I took a friend fishing (frog fishing) on a new little pond, he had the Ci4 and I had the Vanford. I was casting to the other side and into the grass and he was a bit of a difference in keeping up with me. This also allowed to get 6-7 more bites too. Cheers Mishahagi, hope ya sub'd!!
I bought a Vanford 2500 recently for my finesse rig set up. I have to say it is very smooth and feels nice and light mounted to a medium power fast action rod . Its by far the nicest spinning reel I own and have ever used Cheers, Brian

1000, 2000 and 2500 size Vanford use the same type felt (wool?) drag shims as the Stradic. 3 pieces, and looks about the same size. I have not measured but seems very similar. Felt wears faster than carbon especially at harder brake settings. Felt is much better (smoother, more precise/sensitive) at lower brake settings.

I'm on the fence, Ballistic? or Vanford? I guess it comes down to line capacity, which you did not mention in your video. It appears the Ballistic has the edge in this department. Still a tough choice. :(
Sorry, the Vanford does have a larger spool which allows it to hold more line and cast further. I use REALLY light tackle stuff, 10# Powerpro and I've got it lined FULL. When I go saltwater fishing with this reel I use a fluro leader, but bass fishing it's straight braid, but I do black marker it up a lot. Don't know if this helps but good luck. Cheers!!
The way i see this reel is like Stradic FL on a Ci4 body where now we dont have to deal with the hairline handle play and hopefully the roller bearing is upgraded as well. I preordered mine some time ago and it still has not arrived but plan to pair this with a g loomis ex6 medium rod for finesse fishing. I hope i am picking the right rod for that application.
This reel on a loomis rod!!! Shut up, you will be the best thing since sliced rice!!! LOL love the name. For finesse fishing this is your reel! It's insane light and cast so well.
Cheers!!
Ballistic is better. Don't let anyone tell you that the vanford is smoother.
Awesome 👏
I have this reel, it's worth 229.00 or more. Best drag I've ever owned... butter.
BUTTER SMOOOTH!!!! It's an exceptional reel. I have not found many flaws in it. I love it. Cheers!!
Felt drag in 3000 and under 😔
Nice review brotha. Man I'd love to buy one of these. Need those stimulus checks lol..
I understand!!! It's really an amazing reel. I'm using it non-stop, it's just so light and drag is stupid smooth. #buttersmooth
@@GetUrFishOn Dont rub it in to much your making me jealous lol.
Just this weekend I watched my nephew out cast me EVERYTIME and I was using a Ci4. He consistantly was MUCH further than I was, and the drag is butter smooth!!! #buttersmooth You shouldn't be disappointed, and hope you get it soon. Thanks for the comment and hope ya sub'd!! Cheers!!
This or Daiwa Ballistic 4000LT
Ballistic is smoother
I'm so out of it I thought this was a new video
Wow, it cast 1 meter more...
It was probably a little more than that, but how many times have you went fishing and said, I wish I could have my bait go just a bit further..... It does make a slight difference. Cheers!!
Once you start fishing Stella’s you will not use anything else.
I have used a friends on a charter fishing guide service for a day and was in AWE. Smoothness was stupid amazing. Cheers Snookerson!!! Hope ya sub'd!!
But if you're fishing finnese, stella isn't so great
I use mine for saltwater. Also have been using the Daiwa Exist also.
If you compare Stella (CoreSolid for SW) with Vanford (QuickResponse) you have some problems
@@SubSonik66 that's the way i see it too. Not just for reels, but for anything. Another one is I don't need a mercedes, my 20 year old toyota corolla gets me there. I don't need Rolex, my timex gives me the same time. Their final word on buying the cheaper product is usually along the lines of "they have more money than common sense" or "money can't fix stupid" when the reality, the other choice was never a realistic option.
Someone needs to learn how to use a caliper.
As well as a bunch of other things. Cheers!!
Send me the 1000
JDM? Or nothing.
Or, Diawa(JDM)
Bla bla bla shimano guy
I'm a shimano guy for sure!!! Cheers Richard.
Looks very ugly and cheap... I'd seen it and played with it
Cheap and ugly? I respect your opinion, mine is completely different. Cheers!!
Feels cheap too
