One of the most ridiculous "penalties" was Boyd fishing on Guntersville during the off-limits period and he said he was "crappie fishing." He self-imposed a 10 minute penalty on day one. If it had been James Watson, do you think he would have penalized him only 10 mins, or do you think he would have DQ'd him? Lots of questions come to mind for me. The org states the basic "what/why/how much" questions in their press release and that's it. The instructions from the org's attorney is to say nothing further. It's up to the affected angler either let the episode pass into history or extend the angst and fight the matter of his innocence and reputation out in civil court or the court of public opinion, or both, right? If a tournament leader with a possible 6-figure payout gets DQ'ed on Day 3 of the event, that's enough money to get the lawyers involved. Suit and counter-suit, slander, fraud accusations, possible sponsorship cancellation, loss of business opportunities, damages to reputations, court and legal fees, etc.. we're talking lots of money here. How far could this possibly go? IMHO the angler trying to change the outcome of a DQ is probably a long shot, and the best outcome is for everyone to STFU. Total transparency is great and what the angling community may want, but in today's litigious society is full public disclosure in the best interests of both parties? But hey, WTF do I know? Just sayin'... 😂

Fishing fans get furious when someone is caught cheating, is punished by an organization, and the details are kept quiet. Tony Christian was a perfect example of this occurring. I remember people on the BFHP demanding FLW give the details or they would boycott them…😂😂😂 Usually the organizations do this to protect themselves, not the angler-in-question’s reputation. The last thing an organization wants is to be brought into court, especially when it comes to an angler getting caught cheating the rest of the field because if it comes out in court that the angler cheated in other events and DIDN’T get caught, the participants that suffered a financial loss because of his cheating will sue THE ORGANIZATION to recover their losses. This could be catastrophic for an organization, plus it hurts the reputation of the organization that couldn’t protect their customers against cheating. Lawyers know this and certainly use it as a threat against organizations to protect the interests of their clients. Even a slander case brought to court could greatly impact the financial interests of an organization. It’s naive to assume these organizations will ever be any more transparent than they need to to satisfy the curiosity of their fans when it threatens their interests.

First problem, is the couch tournament directors of social media. Too many “ think” they know what happened all the while being keyboard warriors.
As for anglers defending themselves when accused of wrongdoing. The lack of transparency between both the league and anglers is the problem which in turn, fuel the social media keyboard commandos.
Plus, with the fan base of fishing having their favorite league, they will defend that league even if there is wrongdoing proven!
Ultimately, the lack of full information released to the public only makes some of us question the integrity of the league in question.
Case in point, Bassmasters 2024. Has been the biggest clown show and stain in the fishing world. And have we gotten all the info? Nope… in Bass fashion, sweep it under the rug. Heck… even KVD admitted that it happens and was part of the reason he left Bassmasters.
Transparency has been lacking. And accusations have been thrown around by anyone who’s unhappy.

If it’s going to be a professional platform and platform open to public to watch the take off the weigh in’s with kids running around looking up to them it should all be transparent and everything dun no matter how small and surly everything big known. If you can’t LIVE THAT LINE 365 they should not be allowed to pretend to walk it tournament days. And the management of all organizations should be ones who has fished on & loves the tournaments and puts the anglers and fans above all else and listens to the fans and anglers. But at the same time CAN CONTROL THE ANGLERS AND HANDLE EVERY INCIDENT THE SAME. no matter if it’s the 1’st and 2’nd place or the 1’st and last place angler’s they should get the same treatment good bad reward or punishment and put fines into place and suspension along with taking points and or taking points and giving them the the man in the right of the incident. But that’s just MY PERSONAL OPINIONS AND FEELING FROM 45 YEARS OF supporting loving watching and fishing.
