For the most part, I have generally been a watcher of Stanford Women's Basketball. However, Paige Bueckers has really made me a watcher of UCONN Wome's Basketball. Then again the entire UCONN women's Basketball team is well worth watching...haven't missed a game yet!
First, Paige was fantastic. The offense flowed well and spacing was good (makes passing easier) and the fast break was very good, as usual. There were several occasions with short jumpers or floaters that were very good. The defense was good, though there was one short time when there were sudden moments SH would get someone wide open, but mostly it was very good D. Nika drives toward the center of the lane, but still isn't shooting. Is she not supposed to or is she afraid? She fought for rebounds and shot at the rim some. That was good to see. duCharme's mindset needs to be more focused on the team effort and her individual role in that, offensive or defensive. It's a big change from high school. Dorka played well with only one bad interior pass. Most of the game she was playing her game without noticeable errors and she had some very good moments. Aliyah needs more work on her 3pt shot in particular while most of the players just need to get focused on scoring from any place they might happen to be when taking a shot. Liv, Aliyah, and Dorka all shooting 3s together competitively would be fun to watch. Time for a team shooting clinic to get 'em focused and not standing around waiting Paige to shoot, just waiting for her passes.
Talented individuals do not guarantee a talented team. We have talented individuals. This team would get whooped by past UConn teams. And I 'm not talking about the four for four either.
Its pretty odd to me that Denise Dillon was coach of the year over Geno. Nova didn't have any players out after Segrist got back. Meanwhile, Geno juggled 11 different starting lineups because so many people missed so many games, and keep in mind they were using 5 freshmen and 2 sophomore's during the whole ordeal. I think Dillon did a good job and has a great future but in my humble opinion did not do a better job than Geno this year.

Thanks for this recording. Nika couldn't buy a shot. Even Bueckers didn't have a good shooting game. Evina passed up good shots too; almost as if they knew they were going to miss. UCONN's defense is looked better but they still have some trouble with the small busy body guards. I noticed that when Nika brings the ball up, she seems not to be seeing the whole floor, sometimes driving too deep with nothing to finish with. She needs work on the finish; either pull up with a short jumper or go all the way to the hoop w/power. Her shooting mechanics look unrefined and I don't know what to say about her rainbow shot.
The entire team just had an off shooting night. The real bummer was seeing Azzi in a boot on the sideline. She seemed to be the one player outside of Paige that's been shooting well from the perimeter. Geno's frustration in the post game interview showed. Christyn and Evina have played well but they've both been inconsistent shooting from the outside. Olivia and Aaliyah both have been aggressive, but they turn the ball over too much. Nika can't touch rim on her outside shots. With Azzi out, Dorka's the only scorer they have on the bench. It's like a repeat of last season, when Geno wanted Paige to do all the scoring. This team has way too much talent on it to depend on one player to carry the load. Someone needs to step up. They also need to stop passing to Olivia and Aaliyah late in the shot clock. It's almost always going to be a bad shot or a turnover. Paige or one of the guards should have the ball in their hands late in the shot clock.
Iets be real coach G some players he pick to play and some don't play who got here I don't like what I see about this team . I tell you time and time again watch south Carolina they are on a mission to win this thing .

yes sir, you may be right. SC has a tough coach, and she has taught her players how to be tough. That loss to SC stung UConn. But, not all losses are bad. And a lot has changed for UConn since that first game with SCG.
I think Caroline Ducharme is going to be as good as Paige Bueckers and better no disrespect to Paige she is a one in a life time player but Caroline Ducharme is the Best of the Big East.
