    Was funny watching the left rear wheel spinning most of the time you were using the hydraulics. Wish had a backhoe, one strong enough to dig out my small pine stumps.

    I love the older tractors.
    My grandpa had an 8n. I used to drive all over thier property with it. He had a front bucket, land plane, rear blade, brush cutter, and a rototiller. All of them worked like a dream.
    When he passed our family chose what to keep and sell. I very foolishly let the tractor go. If I could go back and do things over I would keep the tractor 110%.

      Cool story. Yeah those old 8ns are great work horses. Tough as nails.

    This must be what a 1951 model? That is an absolute treasure

      You are close. The plate on the backhoe states 1954 and the tractor is a 1955 if I remember correctly.

    I just bought two more 8N fords, my first in over 30 years. One has a loader on it. I have an after-market backhoe attachment I plan to put on it permanently. That will give me a full-time mini backhoe for my farm. The other 8N will be replacing a 30-horsepower NH that broke in half. I bought it new and it lasted me 14 years. The 8N is still going strong after 70 years. Boy, has Ford gone to shit.

    • @Lanninglongarmmowing
      @Lanninglongarmmowing  2 года назад

      We just took the loader off our 8n because the steering box went out in it. The 8n is probably my favorite tractor of all time though. Never scrap an old 8n. Glad you are breathing new life into some antique iron. Keep them going strong and yeah they don't build stuff like they used to.

    PTO wont run with the tractor in neutral?

    • @INTERNATIONAL_RDF-D
      @INTERNATIONAL_RDF-D 3 года назад +3

      It was in neutral
      Inertia and rotating mass will still make the wheels spin when elevated off the ground. But you could stop them by hand if you wanted.... any vehicle will do that.

    Can you comment on the seat mount. I have a Ford 600 with a Sherman backhoe and need a reversible seat like yours. Did you make it special? If you purchased it where can I get one?

      @@Lanninglongarmmowing the reson im asking is im about to put a loader on my ford 641 and am trying to get an ideal of how slow it will be on the 4 gpm pump on the side of the motor.
      Anyways that is a very nice backhoe.

    • @Lanninglongarmmowing
      @Lanninglongarmmowing  5 лет назад +1

      Oh ok. I don't know how slow it would be. Our machine has the same pump on the side. The 850 is a nice machine. You might be better to run it off a pump on the front crankshaft.

    Excuse me, I am wondering if you could point me in the direction of replacement hydraulic cylinders? Also If you might know how to identify which sub model of back hoe? Thanks a bunch!

    • @Lanninglongarmmowing
      @Lanninglongarmmowing  3 года назад +1

      You could pull them off a parts machine or get them from surplus center not real sure though. My brother had to get 3 new ones for this machine. With a slight modification we were able to get them to fit. The old machine gets some new life. This is a Sherman Backhoe made in 1954 on a 1955 Ford 850. I don't know the exact model of the backhoe off the top of my head. Sorry.

      @@Lanninglongarmmowing I have a ford 2000 4 cylinder with the Sherman f-9. I need to rebuild a few cylinders, but the possibility of destroying it is very high at this point, so without a back up I am dead. If you would tell me what supplier you used for the cylinders that would be very helpful. Thank you for replying!

    • @Lanninglongarmmowing
      @Lanninglongarmmowing  3 года назад

      @@everymancarpentry1712 You are welcome. Just confirmed from my brother it was surplus center. You can Google it and it should come up. You'll have to get quite a few measurements of the old ones and match them up as close as possible. The ends where the pins go had to be cut down on ours to fit between the pin mounts. I think that was it.
