Good video, thx for sharing. I’m going to do exactly as you did, but maybe a different finished color. Any suggestions? It’s the same type file cabinet, but a littler taller. About two drawers taller. Its dark puke green, 80’s possibly 90’s. I feel like black will be fine. Going to be somewhat hidden out of the way, so I guess it really doesn’t matter. Thx again
Thanks for the video. Did you put a clear coat on after? If so, how long did you wait after the last coat of paint? And did you have to buff in between coats?
Did you have enough leftover spray paint for another cabinet? I’m planning on doing this as well and I was wondering if I needed to buy two cans for two cabinets.
I had a lot eft over for the accent color and I used all of the paint for the main color. I just kept doing coats till I ran out. Your mileage may vary.
It took a little over 2 cans. It's always better to have a little more than what you need in case you can't find that color again if you run out or if you really like that color then you have some for other projects. That's usually the camp I'm in.
@@stevedotworld What if I did the same project, but didn't sand it first? It was a real old cabinet that didn't have any gloss. Already put several coats on.
You made comments about the lines created by the spray on the front of the cabinet. Please clarify, you DO like “fan” spray? How could you have avoided those lines/streaks. BTW, I couldn’t see them on the video. Thanks.
I can now proceed with my DIY Project, thank you!
That’s great! I’m glad I could help. Have a great week.
Great job
Thank you!
I like how you said my wife likes it, I like it. Lol a smart man
We’ve been married for 26 years so keeping her happy and me employed as her husband is important.
Super cool
Thanks! Have an amazing day.

@@juhmaymay3097 oh thank you!
Thanks. This will be a big help for me.
That’s great! If you have any questions just ask.
Thank you I am about to redo my old black file cabinet great video
Glad I could give you some motivation. Have fun!
Great info, thanks.
I’m glad you found it helpful.
How about surface rust? Would you be able to sand it enough to make a difference?
Yes you should be able to sand down through to the bare metal. If you are doing that then I would use some primer before the color coat.

I’m sure it’s going to be awesome! I’m glad I could inspire someone else to make something new again.
Dang looks so good even after the furst coat. What would have happened if you didn't sand it?
The paint may not stick to the cabinet as well and you might get some flaking.
What is the product you used prior painting? I am going to attempt my filing cabinet and would like to buy menzorna spray you used. Thanks
It helps get the oils off so the paint sticks better. Good luck.
This is from a few years ago, any update on how the cabinet is holding up?
It’s holding up great.
What grit was the sand paper that you used? Planning my file cabinet makeover.
It was 220 grit. Thanks for checking out the video.
Hello. Can you tell me what paint your wife used for her office? I really like that color gray. Thank you so much.
Let me check
@@stevedotworld Thank you.
Do you really need to degloss or scuff sand?
You don’t have to but you run the risk of the paint not sticking. When you sand you don’t have that potential problem.
Thanks for the video. Did you put a clear coat on after? If so, how long did you wait after the last coat of paint? And did you have to buff in between coats?
It didn’t need one. I used the gloss paint. I waited about 15 minutes between coats and didn’t sand in between at all.

Did it take 3 cans or 3 coats to cover that cabinet? Thanks for this video - very informative!

Did you sand it down to help the paint to stick? Do you think this is a critical step?
Yes I did. It really helps the paint adhere.
