Part 1: • Snow Grew Up in Gangst...
--------
In this clip, Snow opened up about linking up with MC Shan in Queens, which led to Shan finding out that Snow could rap. From there, Snow spoke about recording a host of songs at Shan's house, including "Informer," which they also shot the video for. Snow also spoke about signing a label deal before going back to Toronto, where he was sentenced to a year for an assault charge. While in jail, Snow's "Informer" video dropped, which led to inmates asking for his autograph. To hear more, including Snow speaking about a limo picking him up from jail, hit the above clip.

I still have no idea what the chorus is after the word Informer
"INFORMER blah blah blah blah blah blah blah daygo - licky boom boom now"
@thecloneguyz something about stabbing someone down a lane, and the police looking for someone to blame, I believe.
What a freaking motivational tool!

Rappers need to stop bitching about struggles. We all have em, stop whining. Have some fun. Go outside and throw a ball.
And you're a doctor?
I learned the lyrics, bored as hell, while at school at West Point in NY...had plenty of time to learn the lyrics considering I didn't have but 1 weekend off away from school...so I learned the lyrics, on repeat, I dont know how many times, learning the breathing patterns. Dude. I trip people out at kareoke night...one of my all time best flows to surprise people with....and its fun to see so many peoples eyes light up when they hear the song come on and wonder if I actually know the words when I step up to the Mic. Cool story bro.....Hilarious at same time.
Dude I did this too, learned it in college and its hilarious to see peoples reactions. When I was in the Marines my buddies arranged for me to do it in front of the entire unit at our Marine Corps Ball. Legit one of my favorite party tricks.
Can you film your next karaoke of informer and post it? 🤔🤔🤘🏾

The irony of the Informer video where he was in jail coming out while he was literally in jail is priceless!

Never knew how rough his life was growing up. My mother asked me if i wanted to go to his concert when I was a kid. I like this dude already lol. Because of Vanilla ice some of us in the hood thought he was a studio gangsta crazy he was really about that life lol
What people don't know is that Vanilla Ice grew up very poor in the Dallas projects. He was performing dance and rap in all black night clubs at 18. He was no suburban moneyed kid. Black and Asian folks put him on the scene and arranged for him to have a record contract
I love Informer definetly a 90's classic still sounds amazing!

DAM!!! Murder charges as a teen and doing jail time?! I ain't know Snow was real like that.
I think it's attempted murder charges to be precise
That's real
It's really unfortunate that having attempted murder chargers is being "real" in today's society. I know this comment was posted a long time ago and I'm not hating on what you said. I would probably have thought something similar. Its just sad how much everything is so warped today and what we glorify.
@@jordanhendrick7248what is your point
@@jordanhendrick7248 You're completely missing the point. OP is talking about "real" in the sense that Snow was actually singing about things that happened to him, he wasn't just making it up to sound cool. For example, Informer is about being charged and locked up for a murder that he did not commit. Most people at the time had no idea, they just thought it was manufactured persona. It wasn't, he was real.
How can you not love this guy. You can see why he was and is still able to break down race barriers. Besides being talented he is just a real person and that makes him relatable and likable. Same reason Beastie Boys found success as a minority in their genre.
Lol he didnt break down any racial barriers 🤣
@J I think he just means that Snow was able to go to Jamaica and collab with Reggae legends, like he did on Anything For You, and they all accepted him even though white guys rarely do dancehall. I think that speaks to him being authentic and likable
I'll never forget this guy - black man - who was desperately trying to get some space on the Canadian air waves from the CRTC [like the FCC in the US] for the Toronto area. He still hasn't succeeded.
He was facing alot of institutional prejudice that questioned whether this proposed station format would have a "universal appeal" [nobody asked that of Country 101.5 or whatever].
This guy, in a heartbeat, pulls Snow's name out of his mouth, saying, "this guy is both white and Canadian - I don't really know that much about him but they love him in Jamaica"
Snow is legit. He's a bit of cultural unicorn, but he's legit.
Dollar tree vanilla ice. He was a one hit wonder wannabe
@@user-xx7tv1sz6c He did in his personal life. And lots of Jamaicans respected him in Toronto. None of them were talking about the Tragically Hip in that time.
I love stories like this, esp. supposed "one hit wonders" who are still enjoying life and feeling blessed. It's a shame that the music industry is so cutthroat, chewing up and spitting out artists because they "don't hear a hit single". Imagine people like Bob Dylan, Elton John or even Bob Marley trying to come up today?
Those are bad examples because the men you listed also have a stage presence that helped overcome the weaker places in their music, like not making sense (Dylan).
I wouldn't say he's a One Hit Wonder per se. He had like 3 or 4 hot songs, although "Informer" was the biggest one.
i played 12 Inches of Snow OUT. Wore that cassette completely out. Whole album was great, no skipping and fast forwarding. Part of my junior high soundtrack, no doubt about it. and then I got Murder Love my freshman year of HS. another classic. sigh, memories. Shout outs to Snow.
