16:08 and you're playing the Steam release. You'd be dumbfounded to see what those choppers were like pre-Steam. They were so buggy and flip flopped all over the place. It was actually quite hilarious.
I know this might be considered strange but SS2 is actually my favourite game in the series. It's really no more flawed than the other titles but I think the music and art style are great. I've no experience of (and little interest in) the multiplayer component. Perhaps that's the bit that people really took a dislike for? Regarding the art style, I get the feeling that T2 pushed for a more kid friendly look (as publishers are wont to do) and that Croteam gave them a bit of the finger by giving them that aesthetic and turning it up to 11 while also still keeping all the blood and body parts that the series always had. If that's the case, then all I can say is "Well played Croteam!". I appreciate the allusions to Doom 3 and Quake and I love the digs taken at Halo. The humour works really well too, in my opinion. Of the flaws in the game, I agree with the negatives you pointed out in the video... but, for me, they're really not enough to dissuade me that this isn't the best in the series, Sam (see what I did there? :P).
Mint Jeffer I really Love the music in the first Spider Level !!! :D I really hope amazing metal tunes are gonna return in Serious Sam 4. I also enjoyed that metal song 'Hero' in SS 3 .
When the Ursul Suburbs(peace) theme started, I knew this game was going to become one of my favorites. This game's a trip. It's Serious Sam in Wonderland!
I will be honest: This is my favourite Serious Sam of all the 4 main games of the franchise. This is my first ever video game that I started to play and eventually finished when I was a child. It's also one of the first video games that I have ever had on my PC and this one, more than others, this one brought me in the beautiful life of videogaming. I have so much respect for this game and I keep playing it from time to time because it never bores me. It has so many levels, weapons and enemies, plus it has a complete and detailed story. Plus the environment is beautiful and each level has a different theme song! Now that I am older, I actually learned to love Sam's cheesy and childish jokes and actually find some brilliance behind the game's humour. Sam is like a badass father who can't stop from making dad jokes from time to time. This game is in my top 3 favourite games of all time! Serious Sam 2 forever!
Although TFE is still my favorite game I must admit that I enjoyed SS2 quite alot. I believe this game is highly underrated. You see it's silly premise and looks, and just embrace it! Since there are ALOT of Croatian stuff and references in it I understand it gets extra points to us Croatians, but still I think its masterful soundtrack, enormous amount of content, variety and great visual design in lot of places (especially futuristic levels) is enough to make one satisfied during it's run in entirety.
I love Serious Sam 2 so much, finished it at least 20 times on various difficulties. The humor, soundtracks, gameplay and story are 10/10 in my opinion. Such a magical masterpiece! Definetly in my top 5 games ever played. And yes i palyed Serious Sam 1 The first and second ecounter but i still prefer SS2.
Going to be funny coming back to this video a few years down the line and hearing "glorious 1920 x 1080" It's like ads touting the Playstation 2's stunning 480p gaming.
I actually like Sam Classic and Sam2 more than SamHD and Sam3. For some reason ss1 and ss2 have that Serious Sam feeling that is awesome and retro and because of that I come back to those games all the time.
I used to play this game A LOT back in the day and I STILL play it in my teenage years. I'm at the point where every time I revisit this game, I treat Serious difficulty as my Normal difficulty
Nice review. Honestly I enjoyed the game, although it is my least favourite from the series. A lot of times it just doesn't fell like a SS game, for me at least. Also, something important you forgot to mention- the game on Xbox ends after the Hugo boss for some reason. This means that the Sirius Chapter is only in the PC version.
I played the Xbox version a lot and I can confirm that the game doesn't end after the Hugo boss fight. The entire Sirius chapter is there, it's just lacking the final boss in Mental Institution.
@@SDK2K9 Oh really? A friend told me the entire Sirius Chapter was missing. That makes me wonder: why delete the final boss of your game for one of the versions?
The last boss is soooo bad because U use the first quad damage and then wait until all the enemies are dead. Then u hope to get the second quad damage (serious damage to be precise) without getting it despawned if thats even possible , shoot at the door when it opens for the first time in your vehicle and insta kill the boss
The Xbox version had some issues the frame rate was a little bugy but when you look at the sky the frame rate is good and the graphics are stoned down and the blood and gore is reduced to little parts and the Xbox Live was very laggy at times and no one barely played it but me and my friends did though and the game never lagged usually though but it still was kinda eh and sometimes they would have alot of people so that's my experience on the Xbox version of SS2 and it wad good but i guess there is really no way to describe this game i know many people hate it but its hard to describe how this game is you know
Is this better than the more modern Sam games? I played TFE and TSE and enjoyed them quite a bit, but I didn't like SS4 very much. SS3 seems similar to SS4, so I thought I should check this one first, but SS2 looks weird. Would you say it's better and how does it compare to SS3? Which should I buy in your opinion? Thanks in advance.
Fantastic indepth review of the game, I am new to serious sam so I think Serious Sam 2 is a really fun game at it's core but I was prepared for it's wacky style being late to the series. I do love the soundtrack though it's a bit baffleing that 5/7 bosses reuse the "medium" themes from the previous levels for their fights (and Cecil just stole Fight01 from the Second Encounter)
It's a very weird game and as a kid I was disappointed by it, but now I just see it as a fun spin-off. It's actually a great sequel to Next Encounter. These games have a lot in common, from Sam's character design, the dual Uzis, the cutscenes, China levels (complete with floating sensei enemies) and overall humor and level design.
My personal problems with SS2 is that it kinda lost its "smart" touch the first games had and became mindless. I can see why as it was clearly oriented for consoles as well and it shows. Some weapons now home on enemies. And another problem is that I absolutely hate the physics in SS2. The movement speed seems to be slower than in SS1. And splash damage can go f*ck itself. It is nearly impossible to dodge enemy missiles. And you can very effectively lose about 80% of your health because your grenade has bounced back or you were too close. The same goes for missiles. The safe distance is very unclear and you will most likely hurt yourself every time you use rockets or grenades on middle distance. That is a CRAP. Also the extra life mechanic is absolutely useless in the PC version and it should have been removed. And the damage output for weapons is all over the place. Double Barrelled Shotgun is now more powerful than a rocket or grenade, making both almost entirely useless. Minigun shoots very slowly, deals a low amount of damage and is generally not satisfying to use. Compare that to the Minigun from SS1. In SS1 it eats up full ammo in less than a minute, but it really shows the effect. It just cuts down huge masses of enemies and is very satisfying. And speaking of Minigun, I absolutely hate what they did to it in HD versions. They've just made it a hundred times more casual, wasting ammo SLOWER than a weaker Tommygun. That's ridiculous and doesn't make any sense. From any perspective.
@@billyboleson2830 Uhm... yeah? It is smart if you're playing on normal or above and you don't abuse stuff like rocket jumping to cheese the fights. Coop is mindless though, because of unlimited lives. But you can turn those off.
Excellent critique. I have played the first three Serious Sam games many times. In recent years I cannot shake the feeling that they all should have their enemy count cut in half. This is particularly true in Serious Sam 2, where you coul easily cut the enemy count in three. The respawning enemies just feel a little too repetitive, and it is too obvious they are artificially stretching out the game. I know many enemies on screen is kind of central to Serious Sam, but they could rather scale that with difficulty settings. Nonetheless, these games are the literal reason why I am into gaming and a critic!
SS2 can be described as a stupidly fun game. Its really hard to try and put this game into words. You can tell the devs didn't take this game seriously when designing it😂. They did tone down the enemies damage in this game making it feel like a Micheal Bay action title which really Serious Sam is anyway.
This is my favorite serious sam game. Truly, people don't understand Halo 2 was the FPS of my childhood, but several others stood out for other reasons. Serious Sam 2 was wacky, crazy, and fast-paced vulgar fun. Half Life 2 was a great game. I didn't play as much as I should have, but the most immersive shooter at the time, probably. Doom 3 was my introduction to the Doom series, and it scared the shit out of me, lol. I didn't own Doom 3 or SS2, sadly. I now have them all for pc. I feel like the series really went downhill graphically with every entry after SS2. Serious Sam 3 is the worst game for me, and SS4 looks better, but I'm more intrigued by Siberian Mayhem to be entirely honest.
Honnestly what I would love to see would be... another /sequel/ to Serious Sam at this point. Both SS 3 AND SS4 were prequels. And I have to ask... why ? It's not like the storry of serious sam was ever that complex tat it needed detailled backstorry. How about continuing the story uh ?. my gues is that Croteam doesn't particulalry like SS2 and really has no idea how to go from there, prefering to try to get .. well.. serious with SS story. But eh, not a fan, personnally. I feel there's a balance to get between maybe not geeting as ball of the whole silly and awkward as SS2 but at least with the humour of SS, maybe a tad more.
+TonnatoTvshow Yeah, a lot of people were concerned with new mechanics like reloading, aiming, and sprinting, and the setting of the game probably turned others off completely. I'm personally OK with all of it.
Serious Sacor yeah i was i mean reloading is mostly fine but aimgand sprinting...well kinda but my [how do you say this on english] im just gonna say he is my cousin and he hated it because monsters didn't speak crotian no grenades no vehicles and all that...also there is no serious bomb...
I never understood the issue with the art style. Sure, the characters are kinda ugly but the rest of the game looks fantastic! There's nothing wrong with a cartoony / bright art style. I guess this came from the people jaded by the "i am a serious military art style with a whopping 3 shades of brown", that people for some reason STILL can't get over even after 13 years of TF2, and 3 years of Fortnite and even more of the classic mascot games like Spyro, Jazz, and Crash to name a few.
When i was a kid i used to love this game. Now, when i'm trying to beat it, i can't stand even the second level because of it's visual style. It looks too much like a cartoon and doesn't take itself "seriously" like previous games. So yeah, the only way for me to play it, would be to install some mod, to bring back classic enemies, Sam and weapons, including sounds.
I still don't get it. Who with 2 functional brain cells would demand Croteam to make a sequel that is friendly to kids in a series that is all about killing, shooting and bloodshed?
my problem with this game is that its not really a serious sam game if the enemies were different me and probably many other people would find it more enjoyable. like who likes the orcs? just keep the beheadeds and screw those clowns.
