This was a real special band. Two singers two lead guitar players. All American rock and roll band 100 Proof right here period and part of my DNA growing up.
The chicks liked "cutsie" John BonJovi better than Kelly....that's why .These's guys were just as talented if not more.Just like high school it's a popularity contest. Saw Journey, Foreigner, and Night Ranger a couple of years ago. Awesome concert!
jack blades had 10x the personality and stage presence as jbj ever had.. I saw him with Damn Yankees in 1991 and it was one of the best shows I ever saw.
Night Ranger super talented and to this day underrated. While Bon Jovi was an east coast band these guys had mileage at the Sunset Strip in L.A. and Brad Gillis finished the Ozzy Tour back in the mid 80's..But Jon Bon Jovi signed Cinderella which to this day is another great band from Philly.
@George Lynch Dixon Oh, no, it’s dead. Today, people spend their time being offended, planning on what to be offended by, and looking for new reasons to be offended. They don’t have time to actually be entertained or to have a good time. ‘It’s dead, Jim …”
I know what you mean. I was born in 84. But I remember being a kid in the 80s as hard as that is believe. I remember going to preschool the playing baseball. I remember how the people were. Everyone's parents used to let us stay out till the sun went down. There wasn't as much fear even though we knew bad things were still happening. People we're different, you're right. Take some of the beautiful girls of today for example. They're all messed up because of social media and feminism. They're all competing with men thinking that they got to try to be better than us for some reason. They're all thinking they can do everything we can do. That's not true. Just look at sports. Even when those trans people competes, the trans guy ends up winning everything. Lol but if you were to take the same beautiful girls and raise them decades ago in the 80s they would have came out completely different. Even more attractive than they are today. Because they wouldn't have all that crap in their life that makes them ugly, social media, feminism, cameras on my phones, just obsessing over themselves. Trying to get views on Instagram and RUclips. It's almost like that social media dehumanizes them and never gives then the chance to become the beautiful woman inside and out they were able to become if they've been born in a different time. Yeah just look at the women in 80s movies, or something special about that. They're different than women today. They're more sexy in the 80s and 90s.
I don't entirely know about that. If you ask me (which I'm aware you didn't, so I apologize for inserting my two cents), both of NR's front men (Keagy and Blades) both exhibit plenty of showmanship.
They are still great and still rocking on the road. They are giving tremendous performances to this day! If you haven't seen them live lately, you need to go.
I've seen some of the videos here on RUclips from over the last year or so. I've loved them since I was a kid. One of the things that makes me most happy.. they still fully play with their hearts fullout like they did in the old days.. some of these 80's bands don't bon Jovi comes to mind. For while Def Leppard wasn't really playing but now they do
Poison, Cinderella and Ratt are hair bands. This was just before that era,; which is why bands like Night Ranger and Loverboy didn’t survive although they had numerous fantastic songs. Guessing they wouldn’t dress up like a bunch of chicks and sell out.
Agreed! Fantastic stage presence. Hate to use the word "underrated" but he def is! He rocked it in two awesome bands and still going strong with Night Ranger.
+Amie Olson I'm with you! Saw the a couple weeks ago, and it blew me away how good they sounded and hard they rocked!! Totally worth the time to check them out all these years later!
+darke812 Yes, it really was. They're great guys too. I ended up seeing 2 of their shows and talking with them a little twice this summer. Great shows and I love outdoor concerts.
Err, not really. What is Rock N Roll about? Adopting a "I-can-do-this-myself" attitude and the songs were about things that appealed to teens. - Trouble with authoritative figures: "Summertime blues" by Eddie Cochran, "I fought the law" by Bobby Fuller, "Take a message to Mary" by The Everly Brothers - Heartache : "Cryin over you" Roy Orbison, "Bye, bye love" by the Everly Brothers, "The great pretender" by the Platters. And when the hair bands came out it was all about party, having a good time, singing about how many girls they slept with and for many teens growing up in the late eighties, that did NOT reflect their reality. Because if you look at the financial situation in the late eighties, they hadn't have any reason to be in the mood for a party. Then one album changed everything, the title of that album "Appetite for destruction" the name of the band: Guns N Roses. GNR, came from hair metal but different from their peers, they didn't don spandex, they didn't play the staccato way of Eddie Van halen style guitar pyrotechnics and they didn't sing about how life was just a big party. They sang about: - Poverty: "Paradise City", "Welcome to the Jungle" - Substance abuse: "Mr. Brownstone", "Night train" - Troubled relationships: "Sweet child of mine", "My Michelle", "Rocket queen", "You're crazy" And the album exploded because of people going "FINALLY, something I can identify with!" And in its wake albums by the Cure, REM, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Husker Du but also Metallica and Pantera started to sell because of them offering Teens something other than the hair bands that were so prominently featured proclaiming "Let's party" while the rest of the world was already going "Party's over." Rock N Roll re-invented itself with the disappearing of the hair bands.
Living in Germany I heard this song on the radio today and was flashed back to FL in the 80s. Sang along the whole way home with lots of pictures from back then in my head. Back home I googled the song: Night Ranger!!! WOW I remember. Lots of really good music back then.
I was indirectly influenced and curious to listen to this live 1989 version of this cheery nostalgia style classic rock love song of When You Close Your Eyes by Night Ranger when I unexpectedly heard this song playing on my mind for some reason less than 12 hours ago, which is currently a mystery even to me because the last time I heard this very memorable song was via radio airplay approximately around 18 to 36 months ago, although I confess that I am probably now going to obviously start to listen to this song more often and hearing it gives me an idea to start some type of happy love songs playlist
first real RnR concert I went to as a kid, in 1984 - Six Flags, Atl. years later, I met them outside a club , in 2000 very cool, laid back , friendly group of guys...
One of the few arena bands at the time that offered no "cheese" on the menus. Just straightforward fun rock and roll with a lot of energy and a great live sound. And no, SCO was not cheese.
Fuck you, Jack White is amazing .... and every bit as good as Jeff and Brad, who have always been quite under-rated unfortunately - though respected! ... the fact that you would be-little Jack White while trying to raise awareness somehow towards Night Ranger speaks volumes about how little YOU actually know.
It's funny, people say that Grunge killed off the guitar solo when actually if you listen to those songs, there's PLENTY of soloing going on. Listen to Billy Corgan and James Iha of the Smashing Pumkins ripping it up on songs like "Drown", "Disarm", "Today" and "Rhinoceros" Or hear Mike McCready and Stone Gossard of Pearl Jam actually trading solos during "Even flow", "Alive" and "Jeremy" And let's not forget Dave Navarro shredding on the seminal albums by Jane's addiction.
one of their better performances in the late 80s. they were tight and sounded like the record but the lighting was awful and they really never got any tight shots of kelly singing.
This was a real special band. Two singers two lead guitar players. All American rock and roll band 100 Proof right here period and part of my DNA growing up.
Amen to that
Still don't understand how they weren't as big as Bon Jovi....
Agree totally..
+Andy L
have you seen recent performances of Bon Jovi ? It is absolutely a laughing stock....
Back in the day when a Group sang Live and sounded just as good as the day they recorded it😊
One of the best “live” bands I had ever seen. 80’s
there's never gonna be another 80's.the women, the hair, the excess...WOW
+hairball ray The 80's where the best Times ever !!! :D
Glad I was there!
@George Lynch Dixon Oh, no, it’s dead. Today, people spend their time being offended, planning on what to be offended by, and looking for new reasons to be offended. They don’t have time to actually be entertained or to have a good time. ‘It’s dead, Jim …”
You said it. I'd kill to be able to live it again
I know what you mean. I was born in 84. But I remember being a kid in the 80s as hard as that is believe. I remember going to preschool the playing baseball. I remember how the people were. They sound pretty damn good. Love Night Ranger. Not many groups have 2 guys capable of being the lead singer
Other bands that had 2 lead singers: The Cars, Genesis, The Eagles, The Who, Pink Floyd and The Beatles to name a few.
Fleetwood Mac and Blue Oyster Cult as well.
And two amazing guitarists!
I don't care what anybody else says, Blades was always the showmanship in this band. Nobody does it better than him.
I don't entirely know about that. If you ask me (which I'm aware you didn't, so I apologize for inserting my two cents), both of NR's front men (Keagy and Blades) both exhibit plenty of showmanship.
This song he hits you like silk , memories of my daughters Mom she hated it when I sang love songs to her , ❤️😔✌️👍💪🙏☯️😚
Jack is the front man but I'll tell you NR wouldn't be the same without Kelly as well
Yes, I've seen them twice, awesome show and phenomenon show ..
Truth
They are still great and still rocking on the road. They are giving tremendous performances to this day! If you haven't seen them live lately, you need to go.
I've seen some of the videos here on RUclips from over the last year or so. I've loved them since I was a kid. Really?!Thats awesome!I want to go...saw them in 84 at the American Rock festival!
ナイトレンジャーが大好き🍀😍
東京でのコンサートに行った時に この曲を演奏した時に凄く嬉しかった💞✌️
They sound good live. Some Rockers don't sound as good live.
And their songs still hold up in 2023. Timeless. Night Ranger has always been one of my favorite bands since day one. Great performers live.
Jack STILL rocks! Nice guy too!
Night Ranger and Damn Yankees never get old!
Also,38 Special and The Outfield
Remember when we made fun of hair bands.
Look at the musicianship and the beautiful Melodys.
God how I miss it.😔
I never considered Night Ranger a hair band. They were just a rock band. Now wuss bands like Poison and Cinderella and the like were hair bands
Poison, Cinderella and Ratt are hair bands. This was just before that era,; which is why bands like Night Ranger and Loverboy didn’t survive although they had numerous fantastic songs. Guessing they wouldn’t dress up like a bunch of chicks and sell out.
Damn! Brad always had such unforgettable solos,he is so underrated.
Learning about love in the back of a Chevy Camaro is hard on your back. But I was young, so I didn’t care. Memories from 88 and 89.
C-10 Cheyenne had plenty of room in the bed.
My fav Night Ranger song❤️
Jack blades has always been one of my favorite musicians. Great stuff with NR and DY. Such a cool stage presence.
Agreed! Fantastic stage presence. Hate to use the word "underrated" but he def is! He rocked it in two awesome bands and still going strong with Night Ranger.
Incredible Song ~ So great to see Night Ranger live still rockin'.
Great shows and I love outdoor concerts.
when the hair bands went away real rock and roll music went with it
Michael Wallbrown True DAT. Bring back the music! Bring back the hair, too! LOL
Err, not really.

+RastaSaiyaman two words...Hanoi Rocks... did it BEFORE GnR otherwise great post
@@RastaSaiyaman I don't know, I grew up in the '80s and I love night ranger and I always seem to have plenty of money to party.
🎸🎸🎸🎸JUST SAW THEM LAST NIGHT IN PLEASANTON CA AND THEY SOUNDED TIGHT!!🎸🎸🎸🎸
Trading the vocals on “When you’re up, when you’re down, when you’re WILD!” - *Legend*
the end of an era.....................
Just saw the band tonight. They still got it !!!!!!
Saw Kelly Keagy about 5 yrs ago in Nashville and he sounded amazing. It was a tribute for lead singer of Survivor who had just passed away.❤
Oops. It was in Memphis.
My favorite song from this band! I was always amazed how much Jack and Kelly sounded alike when they sang.
I have always loved this song because I wanted the girl I had a crush on in high school to close her eyes and dream about me.
The height of rock music here!
Underrated band. Just love them man!
Great band! So glad to have grown up in these days. I feel blessed in a perfect time of history to have seen it.
Living in Germany I heard this song on the radio today and was flashed back to FL in the 80s. Sang along the whole way home with lots of pictures from back then in my head. Back home I googled the song: Night Ranger!!! WOW I remember. Lots of really good music back then.
Nostalgic and refreshing hard rock melody❣️❣️❣️
Throw back Thursday to my youth
Night Ranger RULES!!! ROCK ON!!!!!
You blew this one Nancy. i am awesome!
Yes, Jack. I still dream about you ♥
Who could forget
Damn, that's great music! Thanks for posting this awesome clip!
Right on!!!! The 80's rock!!!!
They are so much better now than they were back then. I just saw them on a cruise. Night Ranger was pretty kick ass!
These guys kicked so much ass.
Favorite band 30+ years running.
I am still listening in my car and apartment. They make me bact to 80's
I do the same I like to keep my mind in that time frame. Today's world is just a sad place in comparison
good song , brings back a lot of good memories
Brilliant live performance that’s studio quality. Yes they should’ve been bigger. I blame it on there public relations in media.
If it weren't for the videos, I would have never known that the lead vocals were traded off. They sound so identical
I agree! I just saw this live vid & found out! LOL...
Take us back to 80s
I was indirectly influenced and curious to listen to this live 1989 version of this cheery nostalgia style classic rock love song of When You Close Your Eyes by Night Ranger when I unexpectedly heard this song playing on my mind for some reason less than 12 hours ago, which is currently a mystery even to me because the last time I heard this very memorable song was via radio airplay approximately around 18 to 36 months ago, although I confess that I am probably now going to obviously start to listen to this song more often and hearing it gives me an idea to start some type of happy love songs playlist
Got the CD, love it
This version kicks ass too !!!!!!
Solid Rock and Roll....What a great time I had then...just keeps getting better...
I always thought the song was performed by 38 special they have a similar sound and I’m glad I found this.
swietny koncert oraz super piosenka oraz wspanialy zespol night ranger
Wow where did 30 yrs go?
first real RnR concert I went to as a kid, in 1984 - Six Flags, Atl.
years later, I met them outside a club , in 2000
very cool, laid back , friendly group of guys...
Knight ranger always tight
Love these guys!!!!
And they still sound amazingly the same
Such an amazing talented band
they were and are still great ,
Great performance
damn these guys are on fire
I love the presentation...I am too drunk to think of anything eles?
ナイトレンジャーは、この曲が1番好きです
One of the few arena bands at the time that offered no "cheese" on the menus. Just straightforward fun rock and roll with a lot of energy and a great live sound. And no, SCO was not cheese.
Yeah they sound exactly like the studio version. That’s rare among many groups in history.
Wow ❤❤❤❤
What I would do to go back to 1981-89.
...still dreamin'...
stunning !
Jack Blades (vocals, bass), Jesse Bradman (keyz)
I love it good music January 1 2019
Yes...❤
There's not a damn thing wrong with this band, at all. Ever. Fuckin Night Ranger!
At their very best!
Best song ever
Jams!!
Damn good band
Grande Night Ranger 👏👏👏👏
LEGENDS.
The good old times, beat up guitars with great sound
Badass
Who replaced the Legend Randy Rhoads after his passing? To keep the tour dates, Brad Gillis did. That says alot!
Back b4 man buns.long hair was about being cool.ha 80s rock n roll will live
it dosnt get much better than this
Yes
Is this the one version that says, When you close your big brown eyes? I love that version but have only heard it a couple times.
bad ass.....
Will do, thanks for the reply. ;)
Where can I find this concert at? Is it on dvd? I have the 7 Wishes Tour dvd. Awesome show.
Better version of that song
Not the best live performance. Wait, no effects, no processing, no bullshit fillers, it's a great performance.
Exactly. This was just before my era of music, but there is no denying these guys are nearly flawless live.
Hey Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. Where are these Dudes along with Styx - Bryan Adams & REO Speedwagon!
sigh , remember when bands could actually play like this? What the hell happened? Jack White...really?
I'm with ya bro.
grunge happened
Fuck you, Jack White is amazing .... and every bit as good as Jeff and Brad, who have always been quite under-rated unfortunately - though respected! ... the fact that you would be-little Jack White while trying to raise awareness somehow towards Night Ranger speaks volumes about how little YOU actually know.

It's Jack Blades.
pretty good band
Great footage but weird that there were no close ups of Kelly Keagy while he was singing.
I notice lately they have a sideways drum setup...
Joe S That is so you can see Kelly Keagy sing.
Did the director hate Kelly Keagy? Why doesn’t the camera zoom in on him when he’s singing the bridge?
When you close your big green eyes do dream about me?
one of their better performances in the late 80s. they were tight and sounded like the record but the lighting was awful and they really never got any tight shots of kelly singing.
Most rough performances at the Man in Motion tour
