My grandmother was born in Italy and she, for all her life, has sewn garments from scratch and has tailored all my family's clothing, so I think I'm all set with tips 8 and 9 :)
A word of advice about shoes. Have 2 pair of good neutral shoes and alternate them each day. This will permit the interior of the shoe to completely dry out and they will last much longer.
@@SuperBullyone a good watch lasts a lot longer than that. There's vintage wristwatches from the late 1800's still ticking away today, and if we consider pocket watches, even older than that. To sum it up, they should last you a lifetime and if you wish you can hand them down to your children/grandchildren.
I would like to express my gratitude to you and your channel, for changing my life (for the better). Since I started watching and following your tips and advice, my family, my coworkers, my friends, and myself have seen so much improvement in my chronic depression symptoms (actually wanting to get out of bed in the morning and to look more than just “half decent”). Thank you so much, as you and your channel have changed my life. Keep up the great work!!!! -Jacob
Truly excellent beneficial information shared and highlight in this latest video unfortunately many gentleman including myself don't really understand or perhaps appreciate how important it is to organize and maintain our wardrobe simply to assist with extending the life of our clothes and shoe and makes it easy to access all of our items of clothing without spending hours sorting through piles of things to find that favorite necktie pair of socks or shoes thanks for sharing and informing all your viewers!
I really enjoy watching your videos. I have learned so much about wardrobe care and maintainance from you. Even though I am not your target demographic I still find the information you provide very valuable. Thank you for all of the time and effort you put into your channel.
On the subject of shoe trees, I would also mention that you should never buy varnished wood ones. It defeats part of the object, since they are non-absorbent!
Really cool video Raphael! When are you doing a walkthrough of your closet? I know a lot of followers as myself would appreciate to watch it! Keep the videos coming, you have really classic and valuable information.
I am so appreciative of these videos! I knew little about high end or classical clothes before I started watching this channel. And, I knew even less about maintenance. There is so much valuable content in these vids and they have been pivotal in changing my personal stature for the better. Thank you Sven and the GG team!!
Even though he was moving a lot, the background shelf was barely moving; almost as if the video was shot with a green screen and the shelf added later. Either that, or he was standing on a hoverboard. :-D But nice informative video. Thanks.
Actually first step to building a wardrobe is buying good hangers, good shoe trees and good clothes brush. Next is to buy good iron and even better ironing board. And finally as a third step you can start buying good quality clothing and be sure it ain't going to be destroyed by inexperienced user.
Great video. I have a pair of barker brogues, a pair of loake shoes and a crombie coat. The price was 40 pounds for the lot at a local charity shop. It shows if you are prepared to shop around you can find great bargains.
stephen legg Wow! I love all of those makes. Have Loakes and Barkers myself but not a Crombie which I would love. By keeping an eye on T K Maxx I've managed to get several pairs of quality shoes (they quite frequently have Loakes and Barkers) for £80 or less each
I love to see a video regarding your tips for wearing hats. Its a clothing item I love, and would love to wear more, but am reluctant to since they aren't so popular (minus the trendy types) these days, in the US at least.
It's hard to unsee once you notice that he slowly glides across the screen each shot lol. This is not a complaint cause I love this channel, just a funny observation.
I watch your videos I find then very helpful. We have recently moved to an area that does not have a dry cleaner. I have 2 questions, 1) Have you ever tried any home products such as Dryel. We are now 4 hrs and 3 mountain passes away from the nearest city with a dry Cleaner. 2) I need help to take care of stains especially food stains. I doesn’t happen often, but I do need to take care of my husbands suits. I have also found the skills you teach good to better take care of my good dresses, even my casual cloths have a better look, and I thought I was good at taking care of my cloths. Thanks for all your help.
I never knew that there was fancy hat stretchers just like there is for shoes !! I know want all the fancy accessories!! You got me hooked ! Subscribing now as I want to be a dapper fem!
It is funny when playback speed is increased. Seems like he is going along then the camera has to follow him. This is how he goes down the street too he just slides along
2:22 don't go to a carpenter, go to a cabinet maker. Carpenters generally don't do fine cabinet making, they build house frames, decks, large things. That might be able to build the basic shelves, and set up the wardrobe for the cabinets to go in, but I wouldn't get a carpenter to build a wardrobe. Also if you want to get wrinkles out and you need more steam, get a spray bottle of distilled water, and spray your clothes lightly to produce more steam. Also helps if you want to put in a crease, or make a crease more pronounced, for pants, or if you're into that style for your shirt sleeves, or you're in the military.
I believe this is a local terminology issue. In British English a carpenter refers primarily to a furniture maker, rather than a builder. As you might imagine, I was very confused when I first started watching North American woodworking RUclips channels.
its easy to ignore or forget those types of maintenance items! unfortunetely dont yet own a closet proper for storing clothing on hangers or shoe trees or a iron etc but wil certainly invest in these things! thanks alot!
Nice suggestions. I'd like to add that for dress shirts, it is better to launder at home, do not put them in the dryer, then iron while slightly damp if possible. For ironing, recommend Laurastar. It is a Swiss brand and while not inexpensive, has the benefits of steam plus the fan to pull the steam through the shirt.
Ugh don’t get me started on when a wire hanger oxidizes onto a shirt or anything hanging on it. I had cleaned an old white hat and hung it on a wire hanger one day and the next day left marks... 😞 Great videos as always. Always been my go to channel for anything clothing and style, etc. Perfection 👌
I had lot of consumer-grade irons but after all of them died after a year or so I went with a professional iron - yes it needs some extra space but it so much easier to use. I also agree with the importance of ironing board - when I bought mine I unpacked a whole pallet to find one which has perfect flat surface. For me vacuum is a bit unnecessary I went with the mesh back ironing board.
Very nice video. I find most shirt hangers slope too much to hang my shirt without folding or creasing. The ones I've found that do these least are the slim velvety covered ones from Costco and other places that seem bigger and have a shallower angle
Another great video. Question...is it intentional that you were moving side-by-side, relative to the background? Not sure when I noticed it, but it instantly became distracting when I did.
Hello, do you plan on making a video on hats and caps? I feel they're incredible accessories but men have either forgotten about them or wear the wrong kind of hats.
Hi there! We haven't gotten to it yet but I'm sure it's just a matter of time. In the meantime, you can search our website for guides and primers on certain hats. www.gentlemansgazette.com/
I found a lower end second had store that with some regular browsing found some very nice articles of clothing at avery reasonable price. One vintage Gucci black purse in good condition. I use it on special ocassions. A sturdy but high quality simple brown leather leather Talbot purse. Both were in the high $20s. A lovely full length wool winter coat in excellent condition. A two strand cashmere pullover light blue sweater for $19. I regularly donated various items there and received additional discounts. Good advice. You don't have to spend a great deal of money to look well dressed. Love your videos. I do simple sewing repairs for friends and neighbor be a ecause to have the items fixed by a pro is a minimum of $35 for a simple seam and upwards.
I really like Jos A Bank’s cedar shoe trees. My larger shoes would smell literally worse than a dumpster no matter how much gold bond I put in them. Now they don’t smell and are perfectly dry. Stick price is $25, but I get an employee discount. Idk, should I spring for something higher quality but much more expensive, or stick to what I have?
I am a college student staying in a dorm, can you give me advice on maintaining my wardrobe in this environment? I don’t have the luxury of constantly ironing shirts. Could I just use the shower method?
Hi Sven, what is the current practice with regards to moth-holes or tears in fabric? From my experience, the garment is never the same and those repairs are visible. Should one retire a garment in these cases?
Hi their how are you doing today... Very good ideas and suggestions... I'm really interested to try it... I really love the way you talk... Thank you have a great time... See ya...
generic ones work fine, just look for ones shaped similar to the shoe/boot they are going in , they come in a range of how pointed or rounded they are and be sure that they aren't too big for the shoe
Steaming my clothes well . I have a weekend stay in Edinburgh comming up next month. maybe I'll take my best suits and have the Hotel, pay the bill for the steam bath.
We want to know how to care for garments with pilling. Particularly wool winter coats. We have a scraping tool. Is there something that would do less damage? Is there something that would be efficient?
I would like to try Kirby's Project Hangers over Butler Luxury ones since they come out in 4 sizes!! Unfortunately though they don't ship to Europe therefore this won't be happen
You can buy wooden hangers at thrift stores for next to nothing. I bought a big box of them for like $2. People donate them and it would even be worth buying a $3 garment and throwing it away for the hanger before paying $40 for one coat hanger.
A word of advice about hangers: I am a woman and my shoulders are way narrower than men’s. This means the wood hangers are way bigger than my shoulders. What can I do? How can I store my jackets without destroying the shape of the shoulder?
cedar absorbs moisture very well, and keeps moths away, accordingly, cedar shoe trees keep the moisture level down and cedar hangars keep the moths away.
Dear Sven, What garment steamer can you recommend? I want one but am paranoid I’ll buy something useless and might accidentally damage my clothes. Do they sell models that have presets for wool or silk? What should I be looking for?
Bobthehatking Don't do it. They don't actually clean. It's just a scented bag you put your clothes in and toss in the dryer, which could end very badly.
Have you got any recommendations for clothing maintenance providers in the twin cities area? I’ve had some trouble finding good tailors and dry cleaners
What should the clothes brush be made from? The Kent website offers cashmere brush and "all around clothes brush". Not sure which to purchase. Thank you.
My grandmother was born in Italy and she, for all her life, has sewn garments from scratch and has tailored all my family's clothing, so I think I'm all set with tips 8 and 9 :)

Excellent advice ! Thanks !
same goes for mechanical watches, 2 or 3 watches, properly maintained, will last you 10 or 20 years and look as good as the day you bought them,
Shoe trees are a must as well, preserves shape as well as aids drying
@@SuperBullyone a good watch lasts a lot longer than that. There's vintage wristwatches from the late 1800's still ticking away today, and if we consider pocket watches, even older than that.

Good for you. Isn't it great? It is so cheering to hear. I wish you and you family all the best

An ironing board with a vacuum motor on the bottom? Now I've seen everything, Q.
Absolutely standard in any tailors or dress making studio/atelier.
