Ah, forgot to mention. On my stock XMAX, I put 4 external capacitors on the ESC it will keep it from cutting out and prevent any ripple current from smoking the ESC. The ones I used are 35v 2240UF capacitors. If you don't want to build a cap bank yourself you can use the Castle Hobbies Capacitor Pack 8s Max 2240UF. Part # 011-0149-00. You can even use the 50v 12s Max 840UF Capacitor Pack Part # 011-0002-02.
I think I heard what sounded like diff starting to click just a little bit at the end of the video just keep bashing till it breaks thats what I do with my Xmaxx8s
Xmaxx owners be like, this is a stock xmaxx. The only thing I did was change this. Added that. Replaced this, modded that. But otherwise it’s all stock!
Make sure you're using good connectors on the batteries and speed controller. Proven many times over hard impacts create huge voltage spikes, it could be anything. Good batteries are not factory batteries. I was one of the pioneers in converting R/C electric 50/60 sized helicopters 20+ years ago. I've also built and flew FPV racing drones. You already know it's an expensive hobby, have spares, swap and replace.
You said that you haven’t run the car for a while,have the batteries been sitting for a while without being used? I have struck the same problem with batteries that have been sitting a while , the esc will cut on low voltage a couple of times until the batteries “warm up “

Does the ESC cutout if you install partially charged lipos on a cold ESC? Maybe with the 50/20 gearing it's hitting the stock overcurrent and/or overvoltage limits?
It's actually messed up after all these years and Traxxas refuses to give better electronics with the high price tags. the stock electronics are complete 💩💩💩
Wouldn't it be great if you could bash a real monster truck the way an rc takes the abuse and was as cheap to fix??? Also, not literally kill its driver... LMAO

With the cutting out, try recalibrating the throttle end points, the stock transmitter loses true-neutral pretty quickly 😅
