I am Welsh, so can you imagine how i feel, my Mother was always singing this in Welsh. I live in Africa and we listen to the song often. I even had a auntie with that name.
Im Basque French and our male voice choir are very similar...Indeed my Grandad asked for Myfanwy to be be sang at his funeral..be assured everyone cried..its a song that breaks your heart but beautiful in the same moment. I'm 16 now and when my time arrives, this song will be sung...Celt Welsh and France Basque are very similar...Love to brother and sisters there from Arturo
@@jamiejenkins9096 It was sung at Grandad funeral along with Basque melodies. My Grandad went to Wales once and could talk to people it's very strange. If you are Welsh then I feel you are my brother, maybe the same tribe from a distance. Listen to Basque songs and you will feel it in your hert. Goodnight Jamie, I'm going to the bed
Arturo, you are 19 now, and so wise. This song touches me deeply. I am 68, and at my funeral, I would like this song to be played, as well. Thank you, Arturo. Blessings.
Hello from Greece :) I love Wales and the Welsh people. You have such wonderful history and culture. I have visited Wales and it is abs beautiful. Nos da xx
I’m an Englishman who has always loved this song, but I never knew the English translation; now, I love it even more. If, on hearing this, you don’t feel a lump in your throat and a wet tear on your cheek, then you must have a heart of stone.
Every time I need a little reminder of why I'm proud to be Welsh I listen to Myfanwy. One of the most beautiful melodies ever written & sung by a male voice choir.....heaven! Thanks for posting a great version Dicey.
A Cornish Male Voice Choir sang this song at our wedding back in 1968. We got married on a very tight budget and shared our reception room with them. Out of the blue they asked us if we would like them to sing for us. We are so glad we accepted! This song is so beautiful. My wife and I are still together. This song is very special to us.
I have just listened to this wonderful song. I left Wales nearly sixty years ago but the memories came flooding back. I am alone now mam and dad passed away some time ago and my two sisters departed last year. This song although sad says so much about love between two people and can lift the spirit.
My dad had this played at his funeral, and as he was dying of dementia, could only hold on to my mums hand, his mafanwy. Thankyou guys for such a brilliant rendition.
Today, I've been reading about what my ancestors ate. I've read about Scottish yesterday, & Scandinavian and Welsh today. I saw Myfanwy and looked it up on youtube. I listened, read the lyrics. Truly a tear came and slid down my face. Beautiful, inspiring song. Married people should listen to this and remember they love their spouse. I'm gonna show my wife more affection. Thank you to the author of the poem.
I (an Italian-American) have loved this song ever since I first heard it sung by a Welsh choir in "How Green Was My Valley" (voted Best Picture of 1941). Simple, beautiful, very touching.
I'm third generation Australian, but am privileged to have both Scottish and Welsh blood running through my veins. There must be something in the genes that causes one to have such an emotional response to the music from both countries. It is impossible not to get all choked up when listening to this
My grandfather was a welsh speaker although born in Australia not long after his parents arrived here, the house that my father grew up in was called Myfwayny , his given name was Rhys and we played Men of Harlech at his funeral, and I am proud of my welsh heritage
Thanks for this, I am welsh and live in Neath and it reminded me of when I saw The Jones Choir sing it in South Africa and the tears of hiraeth flowed down my cheeks like a waterfall.
Thank you so much for posting this poignant song, which is sung so beautifully. I appreciate puting the words in both Welsh and English. My heart is touched through to the soul. X
This is a gorgeous rendition of my very favorite song, which I first heard in the film “How Green Was My Valley.” I cannot stop the tears from welling up in my eyes. Simply touching, spiritual, and beautiful! Thank You!
This is pure gold, gentlemen! Nothing... NOTHING beats an all-male voice choir. Goosebumps!! Thank you. I am part of an all-male choir here in Sri Lanka that celebrates 25 years tomorrow with a Thanksgiving Service. We will be singing Llanfair by the way and for the record, we do quite a few Welsh songs and hymns over here. The English words though.. :)
This is beautiful. I live in the USA but I'm from Cardiff. It does my heart good to listen to such wonderful music and to be reminded that there is nothing better than a Welsh male-voice choir. Thank you for posting.
It makes me wish I was Welsh! It's also capable of reducing most to tears without us even understanding the words! It's just so beautiful. It must be sung by a choir - a WELSH choir!
I first heard this at a friends funeral in Wales, It tells how a woman (Myfanwy), onced wooed her lover with her sweet words, but then for some reason she fell out of love with him, and her eyes were dark and filled with anger, but he's still was very much in love with her. He wishes her well and that the sun shine on her all her life. She has obviously died, and he asks for her hand one last time before he bids her a final Farewell. It's very moving the words are almost haunting and you don't need to speak Welsh to appreciate the beautiful love song, performed by an amazing Neath Welsh Male Voice Choir. Thank you for this, and I will forever have memories of this at my friends' funeral.
My dad was a member of the Pontarddulais Male Voice Choir. He always joked that he would want this played at his funeral and he got his wish when many of them attended and they sang it at the service at my Mum's request. That was 40 years ago. I still can't listen to it without crying.
Beautiful memory Ian at such a sad time...If you look at Eli Jenkins Prayer in my videos this also was sang by the Neath Male Voice Choir whom all attended and sang at my dads funeral as he was a Tenor with them, Im sure you will like it, though like yourself I personally find it very difficult to listen too without shedding a tear :)
Wonderful harmony. Left Wales when I was 17 for Canada and still the music fills my heart with a longing for the Welsh mountains, for the music in the Welsh voices, and the ever kindness and good humour of the Welsh.
I love this song... So sad... tears my eyes every time... I am Scottish and I remember Aberfan in 1966 and the Aberfan Choir and the devastating effect it had... all those children..
I know how you feel Artur, the wierd thing is, before I came here I was listening to ''Amazing grace'' played by the Scottish Dragoon guards, and yes, I am a welshman, from the South Wales valleys, and it got me close to tears, as this one does. Something very beautiful about Scottish and Welsh music.
@@Loverboy19691 Yep......in Scotland it's pipe music which "does it" for me, England it's a top notch brass band, and from Wales it's singing like this. Myfanwy is something pretty special......no idea exactly what but every time i hear it it tugs like fury at the heart and i FEEL it in my soul.
I was a child in London when this tragedy happened, but I remember feeling sadder than I ever had been before. I have lived in Wales for the last 30 years and the sadness will never be forgotten in this beautiful country. I am sorry you had to go through such a horrible time.
Years ago I lived in Hong Kong. The Welsh choir was at a dinner/dance thingy......I asked them to sing Myfanwy.....they stood in a circle around me and sang it.....Those minor chords make me weep.
