The tank had insufficient armor protection - even its frontal armor was
penetrated by shells of 37-mm anti-tank cannons at all distances of actual
fire.
In terms of mobility, the T-26 was inferior to all Wehrmacht tanks, with the
exception of the captured Czechoslovak 35 (t). The undercarriage of a
Complex design - two carts at each side, was unreliable and vulnerable, and
the tank often lost tracks on the move.
Despite the weak armor protection, it was tenacious due to the fact that
the engine and tanks were located in the aft compartment behind the
bulkhead. With proper use, the tank inflicted serious damage on the enemy.
Powerful for 1941, the 45-mm cannon to some extent compensated for the
lack of armor protection of the T-26 and equalized the chances in a fire
duel with German tanks.
Due to the shortage of spare parts, a significant part of the tanks was not
combat-ready. In some units, up to a third of the vehicles stood motionless,
especially there were not enough tracks and fingers. In addition, up to 30%
of the tanks were old and worn-out vehicles made in 1931-1934.
It was the most massive, and at the same time the most fought Soviet
