Tbf there is a lot of talented artists on those tapes. And not everyone 'fell for it' as such. Theres an accepted level of BS that people put up with as part of the game, especially if it benefits them, and some people will have got some extra listeners as a result, just not 500 bucks worth. If upcommers are still doing it now I have to question how involved they are in the business side, cos its fairly well known in artist circles now, but ALL artists get taken in on this or a different scam at some point because theres so many of them. Its a learning curve. I warned a couple people but they still went for it cos they thought the pros outweighed the cons, which is fair enough.

So that’s why it’s easy to scam some of these artists because they really think they’re that good. But I also see both sides sometimes you’ve got to take a risk to get yourself out there even if it sounds crazy but still… 🤷🏾♂️
Yeah I think it’s just down to not seeing the bigger picture, just fully naive to how the industry works. But like I say, I don’t blame them too much, easy to get caught up in the excitement when it’s a fully verified rapper’s account messaging you. Idk, I don’t want to be too harsh on the victims 😅😂

i've had this happen to me only they were offering me a "Radio deal" so you pay for that then they claim they know somebody working for a record label and they need an additional 500 so you pay that the record never gets released then they claim to have another deal for you from another radio station. It'll cost you about 220. ya Pay that, but all of a sudden the price magically goes up can you get another deal with Iheart Radio only it is it really with them and you pay that you pay and you pay and you pay and you pay until you're bankrupt if you ask me the whole fucking industry is one big scam
Rowdy Rebel Posted a story yesterday saying he’d trying to “sign talent, artists DM your work”. I sent him some songs, he replied and basically said “you have talent, let’s work. You need to build a following and i can help with that, promos, features, intros, etc…just let me know your budget.” at first i was shocked cause I’m from Brooklyn and rowdy rebel and Bobby shmurda are legends to kids like me who grew up listening to them. Me and all of my friends were excited, i reply to him and tell him my budget and he basically said “are you zelle or cash app ready?”. Immediate red flag. You can’t dispute your money through zelle or cashapp, so i was very hesitant. I decided to just leave him on seen because it doesn’t seem genuine cause I’ve seen videos just like this one where rappers scam fans and aspiring artists just like you covered in this video. If he genuinely wanted to sign me and show love, he wouldn’t be discussing money right away. It’s sad how these rappers who we looked up to trying to scam us when they were once in our shoes.
Lol for real I got these messages from Papoose & The game. It’s mad, obviously initially you see The Game pop up in your DM’s & you get gassed, especially as I’m a massive fan of The Game. But after seconds i knew it was bullshit lol. It’s nuts.
Cassidy got me for $200, the crazy thing is i had met cassidy prior to that. Complete scam. I feel its a company going on to these artists IGs and running the play. Lesson learned.

Some just lend their name to it while others like The Game go balls deep cos he's got no problem scamming people. The initial contact comes primarily from a post on the artists social media advertising the (as in 1) upcoming mixtape. And because everyone's a rapper now they are inundated with people clout chasing basically to get that cosign by appearing on it. And like you say, if it was done right it would benefit everyone a lot more. It used to be a legit way of getting your name out. People pay for mixtape slots all the time. Only thing that put me off was I saw two friends post screenshots with the same messages almost word for word off the big name artist. Benny The Butcher dropped 7 of these the same day so yeah there's decent money involved. Meanwhile I was trying to put together a real mixtape, mixed and everything, but couldn't even get 30 bucks off artists. Ironically I was planning to put the money towards real promo and build a brand that would've benefited everyone way more. But I'm not a big enough name and everyone wants a shortcut 🤷♂️

I did one for Dave East in 2020. I was like the 3rd or 4th song out of like 100. Months after that one Gillie Da Kid had one and took my $300. That tape was never released. 2020 was a scamming season. 😂😂😂
