bwink23 almost! There are limits to events they can enter and very rarely is someone that's elite at free/fly/back is also elite at breast. Dressel is pretty much a first for being this elite even though he is weak at backstroke. Still incredible for sure!
This is an absolutely horrible video from ESPN. The video made EIGHT completely pointless camera angle switches in a 42.8 second race, each angle switch actually obscuring what was going on. Come on! Use one camera angle for the entire race. And then after the race, a close-up camera angle of the winner. And then finally for those of us who follow swimming, a two-angle underwater view of the winner swimming his race. This isn't rocket science. Some of us would actually like to see the race and the swimmer swimming!
So you comment people are seriously saying this guy is better than the most decorated Olympic athlete of all time? Phelps' 23 gold metals are a world record, nobody else has more than 9. Yeah, this guy IS fast but Phelps is a Legend.
In a textile suit, Dressel has swum faster SCY and LCM times than Phelps ever did and is showing to be more diverse in his events than even Phelps. He also tied Phelps' record of 7 golds at the last World Championships. He could definitely get more than 8 golds come 2020. Point being; Dressel's raw talent is better than Phelps' was, now it's just a matter of time before he outdoes his substantive achievements. That's why this is so exciting for sport.
Do I think he could be better? Yeah, maybe one day but I think Phelps' longevity of excellence is going to be tough to match even though I do think if anybody could do it it would be Dressel. I think he IS faster than Phelps but I dont think he will ever match his medal count. That being said in 2020 the world will be watching him much like the world watched Phelps in 08: In pure astonishment of his greatness.
People get carried away easily. You're right. As great as Dressel is, he's going to have to prove himself over the long haul, but you gotta admit - the potential is realistically there.
@ROAD To The Top So you're saying he's going to win an average of 9 medals at each of the next 3 Olympics, when he'll be 24, 28, and 32 respectively? Not happening. If he gets more than 12 Olympic medals in his career (which I think is possible), he'll be in elite company. I think on the upper end, with very idealistic hopes, he'll rack 20 total medals.
@ROAD To The Top What's the 4th relay? That would be new and I might add not apples to apples comparison. Still, if by some stroke of genius he could win 8 gold medals in 3 successive Olympics, he would still need to win 3 more medals at the age of 36 to surpass Phelps and he would have been "aided" by the addition of a 4th relay. Dressel is not winning in long course by bigger percentages that Ledecky and he's going to have his hands full getting gold in the 100 free (Chalmers) and the 100 fly (Milak). Not happening.
could be although he's more of a pure Sprinter than Phelps ever was. On the other hand Phelps is a much better mid-distance Swimmer. My point is both are impressive as hell, and both certainly have different strengths. This kid has the tools to win a lot of Olympic Hardware, no doubt!
This is dope, but I’m not one to jump to conclusions, but I hope he’s clean and not taking anything. I’m just questioning as he’s so good, I’d take it as a compliment that you swim so well people suspect steroids.
Abbey Brieske noo he really doesn’t have the distance capability that Phelps does, not allowing him to win the 400 IM, or the 200 free, or the 200 fly, or be in the 8 x 200 free relay, he isn’t versatile enough unfortunately
@Road To The Top Normally, you're dead on the mark correct, but not with this one. Remember, Phelps already had 8 medals in the bag by age 19. Dressel would have get 26 Olympic medals in his next 3 Olympics - just to match Phelps. I think he'll match or exceed Phelps in terms of records, but not medals.
He also broke Tom Shields' 50 fly record in the process of breaking his own 100 fly record
0:45 You can see his coach jumping on the left bottom.
When the video is faster than your time
He is good!!!
Watching back at Dressel in the hundred fly he sure has improved to what he did at the 2019 Worlds Caleb is a g.o.a.t.
Have you noticed that one great swimmer can win every different style swimming event.
bwink23 almost! There are limits to events they can enter and very rarely is someone that's elite at free/fly/back is also elite at breast. Dressel is pretty much a first for being this elite even though he is weak at backstroke. Still incredible for sure!
Lol just like Bolt did.
By Bolt, do you mean Usian? No disrespect to Usain but it's not comparable. Apples and oranges.
Krismelo Porthony Bolt can't do long distance
You can still compare apples and oranges.
The club record for the 100 free in my club is 53 😂
My sport 😎🤙🏽
when the vid is 57 secs long u know its gonna be fast
Blessed
Vagtastic Voyage honestly??? Exactly, swimmer’s are tested at least twice a month, swimming is a clean sport with no politics

First turn wasn't even that bad.
Suspicious
Phelps would wash this nigga.
Nah jk Shoutout great string of performances.
So he beat Phelps record or what's going on?
Freddy Wap Phelps didn't have the record in the 100 short course yards butterfly, his record is in the long course meters one.
Oh so there's a possibility he could exceed Phelps?
ROAD To The Top well shorter distance lesser stamina needed whilst having more power involved.
ROAD To The Top Yeah, he's basically the best 100 lcm flyer ever already
@Road To The Top

Have they tested this guy though? He is breaking too many records in a short time, its too suspicious.
Itumeleng Setilo the records are his lol and yes he's in the WADA pool so probably getting treated at least once a month.
As a swimmer for the next olympics. Yes, the US swim team gets tested 2 or more times in a month for ped.
It's just that Americans are the first one to shout "test test test doping yadadadada" when someone from another country breaks multiple records.
Well its not just americans. Remember lance armstrong? Yeah cyclists around the world wanted him tested for peds everytime he wins a tour de france.
Mel Javelona wouldn't use Lance Armstrong if I was you, bad example, bad example.
