Yeah completely disagree about the headlights and c pillar. The headlights are a perfect nod to the E classes of old without having two separate lighting houses, kind of like the facelift W212 and pre facelift w213. The c pillar works perfectly with the design of the car. Not only does it help with aerodynamics, achieving 0.23 which is pretty much the same as the EQE (one is a traditional three box and the other is a bar of soap), but it keeps the sleek silhouette. It’s important to note that BMW and Mercedes have two very different ways of styling their cars. BMWs front end tends to angle backwards with a squared off rear end, making the car look like it’s ready to pounce off its rear axle, MB prefers the shark nose front end and swoopy rear end, this makes the car look like it’s in motion at high speed, kind of like it’s hugging the ground, gives it a stable look. The two angle their front and rear ends in opposite directions. Some prefer that “pouncing” stance and others prefer that “high speed road hugging” stance.

I had a '13 E-Class and it was the best touring car I've ever owned. Sorry, I've never driven/ridden in an S-Class, I'm sure it's even more enjoyable. I currently own a '16 400SL and '17GLE. With all the bells and alerts (particularly with the GPS message of divert for 2-minute saving) on these two, it's a challenge to react! What would your focus be with a dash that looks like an iPhone! Talk about distracted driving! I'll leave it at your comment.....MB's own admission "more focus on software than hardware"! I own MBs for survival, reliability, handling, and quality of ride. Don't go chasing Lexus and Genesis for gimmicks.........excellent review. Well done, thanks!

I really like the profile of the car, very elegant and sleek with great proportions while retaining the E-Class shape. It's also quite a bit more visually interesting than the W213, which looked a bit flat and amorphous to me. I don't like the front though, the lower part of the AMG trim front bumper is far too busy and the black around the grill is tacky. I think the luxury trim is the better looking one this time around. That interior though, it's not even close to the W213. The 213 interior has elegance and so much character, while this new interior lacks that classy aesthetic and will almost certainly age poorly. I wouldn't be surprised if in a few years all car interiors look something like this, with just screens everywhere and no real charm, and the E-Class wont stand out like it used to.
In terms of interior design, I think W213 is peak E-Class. Google Car and Driver 2019 E-Class wagon interior, and just look at that interior spec, it's OUTSTANDING. I cant think of any car well under 100k that has an interior anywhere near that level of beaty and elegance. The W214's interior just lacks the beautiful natural flow of the 213, and replaces natural open pore wood on the dash with screens using an ugly UI that will only look worse with time. It saddens me that we are moving away from design and heading towards endless screens and gimmicky tech.

Only thing that I do not like about the new E-Class is that is a mismatch of design elements between the electric and gas versions which looks off. To clarify, the headlights and tail-lights look like they are inspired by the EQE whereas the body panels appear to be inspired by the gas version of the new S-Class. Not sure how I feel about, trying to be receptive to new designs as Mercedes tries to combine and transition their design language towards EVs but as of now it looks off in my humble opinion.

Honestly, I just think Mercedes update the design just so that they can say they have a new model. However, the older model was almost perfect and all they can do is to make it uglier. Also, I personally think that the two screens on the previous version look nice than this entire dashboard of screens. It was looking modern and digital enough, but left enough space for nice materials and created pieces. The whole dashboard is a screen looks kinda cheap as a Chinese car

I see here people having a problem with how the infortainment screens of today are so big as if its any different from a small screen in purpose? All screens serve the same purpose whether small or big,you always gonna take your eyes off the road to focus on what you want to control on the screen. So whether its big or small none of them is safer than the other. So we cant be really stuck into 2009 when the information screens were way smaller than that of todays cars. The direction that we're heading to,cars will be in full charge of taking us into our destinations. We all dont want to go there but still thats where the direction it heading to. Any way this car looks a bit outish not likable at first site maybe in time it will.

  • @mikeinfortcollinslynn7898

Too much gimmickry in the new variant. My favorite all time M-B is the 1971 280SE 3.5L V-8 Cabriiolet. This car was a rocket with the V-8 and has absolutely met the test of time in an elegant soft top machine. The chocolate brown with cognac (tan) leather interior always stood out to be a real man's car. Today's M-B automobiles focus too much on electronics (think planned obsolesce) and they have made a flawed decision to go down the EV road. Charging infrastructure is not there for EV's and the downsides with how/where the lithium and cobalt are mined is troubling from a human rights and environmental standpoints. Ah, the always perfect 280SE what a perfect ride!

The s class is getting a refreshed facelift for s production model for either likely Q3 or Q4 2024 or early 2025 and then after that likely 3 years later or almost three a brand new s class will go into production.
The newest maybachs out right now are the GLS 600 and the EQS 680. Mercedes teased that there is a eq maybach sedan coming in the comments of their Instagram page but they haven’t said anything else about it.
