I got my first Lyle Lovett CD at Goodwill last year and this song is on it. I've been watching for more ever since. How did I go so long without knowing the magic of Lyle?
We love Lyle Lovett! Our new series "On the Rogue" just launched Episode 1 with Ginger Leigh interviewing Lyle at Gruene Hall in Gruene, Texas. ruclips.net/video/aoYw5a5q-dI/видео.html. Please subscribe for more!
I only knew the name Lyle Lovett but I'd never heard him until my new (then) boyfriend sent me a video to listen to "Here I Am" and I listened and had no idea what to make of it or him, but he grew on me....
Lyle is such a phenominal artist & writer, this song for example. I have been a fan for about 10 yrs, and still discover work 's this man has done that totally kills you, (in a good way). What prompted me to get on here and coment, was that I noticed while listening to this piece of excellence, that it has only been viewed 3,539 times??? This is an abomination.
@AmazingAlixAvien......Well......ya see....BEFORE he had his "large band"......he only had large hair to rely on! OUTSTANDING ARTIST......In my view the message is "all is not what it seems"...."the grass is always greener"....not everyone who appears successful is happy"....and happiness is the true & lasting success....SO...."careful what you wish for"
@clintonious I just start discovering Lyle Lovett and this phrase of you: "I was so taken by the whole show I started feeling weird, like I was gonna cry or something." is very recognisable to me. Kinda weird..but Lyle lovett is like a band aid to a bleedin' soul
@bambam691964 lol I hear ya. I've seen him twice as well at a casino near my home. The first time I saw him I was so taken by the whole show I started feeling weird, like I was gonna cry or something. lol I been around the block myself, I've even played on the grand ole opry with ricky skaggs as you can see if you watch the video on my youtube channel. I've share the stage with many greats but no ones performance has ever brought me as much joy as I've recieved watching his show...imma dork lol
@bambam691964 I'll echo y'alls remarks about Lyle. Always enjoy listening to his work. Another artist who has a "homey" sort of delivery, but quite different style, is Leo Kottke. See him play, too, if you ever have a chance.
Master of timing. I think he would have been great with TVZ. I dont think they played together if so PLEASE upload if you have it. Too all the negative comments here and else were dont you have something better to do? Really!
@enndubful He's leaving out the word for backside and letting the listener fill in the blank. "See that boy with that guitar, he's got a little round (bottom) like I always wanted. ... Sister look at me again. You'd love me if that were my rear end."
I love this song, but anyone have the lead in that people are laughing at? I remember the first time I saw this on ACL and the joke... just wanted to hear him tell it again.
Lyle was best friends with Nanci Griffith. Nanci used to complain on stage about having skinny legs in the early 1980s. Seems Lyle reversed the whole situation in a song to make Nanci feel better. Just fell in love with another one of his songs!
Anyone here still? 🎉🎉🎉
See that boy with that guitar...he can write songs like I always wanted (to)

So lovely...exquisite guitar playing...magical...
What I love about this song is that it makes you think it's a love song/ballad until the end..
Love it!

Loved your music for years. Thank you ❤️
great song, from one of my faorite CDs, "I Love Everybody" one of those rare pieces of music where EVERY song is a keeper, every single one.
So incredibly amazing
I am just discovering Lyle's music, and his songs make me laugh, although I am not really into country music. But if it's good, it's good!
This guy is so good!
What a song ❤

one of his best.
LOVE IT ALL OVER!
Lyle is great and he's had some pretty good looking girls in his car too!
I love it!
What an amazing song
I love your mix! It's a lot like a couple of mine - many of my favorite songs. Thank you.
The Frank Zappa of country music.
Thank you for that description. I just discovered his music and I was trying to describe it to my husband. You hit the nail on the head.
Holy shit. Perfect. TY.
I have to listen to his music with my eyes closed since he is so hard on the eyes.
Lyle

That crisp clear tonal mellow sound?... Courtesy of a vintage 1930's Martin acoustic guitar.
Awesome hair

Out of my way rooster boy
people still don't get or haven't discovered 'the lovett'...
When and where was this recorded. I've missed a lot of LL-records, but this song is my favourite LL-song. Fantastic to see a live version.
i want those hairs! ;)

Do you have the rest of this Austin City Limits show? I had this on videocassette in the early 90's and watched it constantly.
He'll no. This mans a genius song writer.

"See that boy with that guitar, he's got a little round (bottom) like I always wanted. ...
Sister look at me again. You'd love me if that were my rear end."
And it's hilariously honest.
I love this song, but anyone have the lead in that people are laughing at? I remember the first time I saw this on ACL and the joke... just wanted to hear him tell it again.
3 years late, but...they're laughing because he says she'd love him if he had a nice butt. ;)
His monolithic hairdo at that time could have given Tom Waits a run for his money...
Rooster boy
I didn't know Marty McFly could sing!
I don't understand the little round verse. Can somebody clue me in?
instead of saying ass or butt..
I think he's singing about himself.
