I'm 5 minutes into the video, and I forgot I was interested in the compressor because I got so into the song! I have absolutely ZERO experience with this genre; I'm a lifelong hardcore Hip-hop head. I wouldn't have expected to enjoy this....but I do....A LOT!
16:40 it's so good John disappeared for a second.
I absolutely love the Neve stuff.. So warm and full sounding...Thanks for the video John. 🤘🎚️🎛️🤘
The best song combined with a great compressor.
Killer review JB !
crazy, i found about this being used on a Eminem track and wanted to research more about it. I been doing stuff like this for a while and never heard of it so i typed it in youtube and your channel was the first to pop up. I instantly knew who you were & had to watch this video, great information/video brother. Thank you!
Sounds amazing.
Oh it *s q u a s h* don't it
Good gawd these things sound incredible.
5:15 love the response and for some reason hardware comps always handle lows better and don't choke as much as plugins
Awesome video. I’m slowly collecting outboard gear but idk if I can justify the price for my hobby. It sounds pretty killer though.
Wait are you using the ssl and the Neve both on the master?
For as much as this sounds sooo good, imagine a pair of Neve 2254/R Limiter/Compressor's strapped, which have the same circuitry as the 1073 and 1084's as where the 33609 is cleaner like the 1081's .... but hey, don't get me wrong, this is a nice demo, thanks! The 33609 sounds beautiful. I hope you get the five more you're wishing for. For those considering REAL AMS Neve outboard gear, be forewarned - it changes everything, inspires you to create more with even more Neve gear, which begs for more ... and so on. Plug-ins just don't come close! Go Neve (Hardware) and never look back!
this vs the 2500+ is this still a good choose?
I'm planning on grabbing a second Heritage HA81 and a HA609 for two "golden" vocal tracking chains. Do you think I'll be able to resist the urge for more?
Awesome vid. The song is dope af! Are you using the SA4000 in the chain as well? Along with the neve?
What do you use for record guitars on your demos?
Which one do you prefer, the stam sa609 clon or the neve 33609n ?
Sounds great ... "The power" and soft warm stuff is there at the same time. Is it good also for EDM?
Are there lights in the meters on the 33609? Thanks
Hi John! Not sure if it's appropriate place to ask, but still. I got this weird idea recently to get something like H&K tubemeister 20 and slam it directly into my audio interface, but I'm not sure if it's gonna make much difference (if it will work at all) compared to just using "guitar->interface->amplitube->monitors" setup, especially considering the investment. Do you think it makes sense for a typical bedroom guitarist for practicing/recording, or should I just stick with what I already have?
if the tubemeister has a DI in then sure with cab sims it could be good, or a simulated cab (but they usually arent the best when built in) but i'd invest in something like a suhr reactive load if not
can you please release instrumental versions of Phronesis? not because i want to hear no vocals. i love examining all elements of the instruments and i find it difficult to distinguish with vocals on tracks. thanks! amazing videos John.
Tyler Franco unfortunately I don’t own the music of Phronesis anymore.
@@JohnBrownemonuments so sad does the label own it? you should make more mix videos please! at least i can hear them in this setting and learn at the same time. which i appreciate! cheers from canada! can't wait to see you perform again! hopefully instrumental!! I miss Chris' style seeing yall perform in edmonton with saxophone a while back was life changing. can't wait for next time!

Why is there a SSL clone compressor also running at the same time?
I'm pretty sure the send for this is bypassed in the DAW
Not a huge fan of how the unit sounds personally, but man is vanta ever a fucking banger.
Would love to see your way of mixing. I wonder what the drum comp is doing.
Jaydee Verhoeven parallel compression, slammmmmmed
@@JohnBrownemonuments It look like, you have send channels to that FX channel, but also a bit guitar routed to there. Is that right?
Jesus this has the exact sound I'm going for. I wonder if there are any good clones...
Morris Heilman stam Audio is currently developing one, but there are no reviews out yet
If you are diy inclined, DiyRacked has a kit. Comes with a the pcbs, faceplate, enclosure and power supply. You have to source the components yourself but it comes with a bom so you know what you have to get.
So. What is the purpose of the compressor on top of the compressor?
Compression is like gain best done in stages. Usually the first compressor is to get “control” of a sound, the second is for its spatial positioning in a mix (front vs back or top vs bottom). It’s huge for vocals and drums to compress in layers.
@@ryand4533 I’ll hamstring my own statement here a bit….so there are no “rules” per se, and what sounds good sounds good, but I wouldn’t think that the mix bus is where this level of compression should be happening. In this mix, I think the compressor is working too hard on the mix bus here and reacting to the low end too much. A HPF side chain feature on the compressor would help keep it from reacting to the low end and help it to sound a bit more punchy with less pumping. A newer SSL G Bus with the HPF would better suit this program material.
17:35 ✌ 🚀
for metal, u prefer this or ssl comp?
I use both, the Stam is an SSL comp clone!
John Browne what’s the difference between both? neve comp give depth and warm like in this video, what about the stam ssl?
Yeah that Neve on the drums vs. the plugin sounded fatter, bigger, and wider overall.
💜💜💜💜💜💜
The ios version be coming thru $5
4 k for the unit huh...there is a UAD version
Yes. Hardware is better though.
yeah but have you seen how beautiful that thing is
@@ShredShed It depends on the use case. They only sound different, not better ;).
Btw hey I really like your content.
Hey john.......all this badass equipment and we can’t even get a good quality sound of your voice to hear this shit with? Wtf my dude? Your room has great acoustics! We get it. We Don’t wanna hear the room acoustics.
Mike read the description.
All this talk and cant even read.
Understood. Maybe I should read the descriptions more, instead of being excited enough about the content and jumping right into the video. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
