    I just love Japanese travel channels. I think this is the 4th one I've subscribed to. I'd love to visit there some day. Japanese culture and people are so civilized, gentle, clean, happy and kind. How did it happen that the USA and Japan are on such good terms after the atrocities committed upon each other in WWII? I'd love to hear people's opinions on this.

      I think America did a good job of helping Japan rebuild without being too dictatorial and and showing respect for Japanese traditions and culture. Japan was also willing to give up its militaristic stance it had adopted prior to world war too. Now we rely on each other so much economically we have a very symbiotic relationship.

    • @englishatheart

      Eh, seeing how Japan has one of the highest suicide rates, which I bet has a lot to do with how much emphasis is placed on constantly working and striving to achieve perfection (which isn't possible), I'd say many aren't very happy.

    • @mattsoca1
      @mattsoca1 Год назад +2

      @@englishatheart Your ignorance is quite disturbing. Japan's suicide rate is somewhat high at 15.3 per 100,000 people (25th highest in the world), but the US suicide rate is even higher at 16.1 per 100,000 (23rd highest in the world) - these figures are from 2019 worldwide date reported in 2023. Moreover, the "suicide" data does not include deaths from illicit drugs (2019 stats show US at 1.27 per 100,000, with Japan at 0.01 per 100,000), which I would consider to be a form of suicide.
      As for being unhappy, psychological surveys show the Japanese are more than satisfied with their society/culture, especially when compared with the rest of the world per characteristics of safety, cleanliness, honesty trustworthiness, etc., and do not want to change much. Their so-called perfectionistic attitude fits well with their "personal cultural value" of "doing one's best" (reflected in the common phrase used in practically all situations - "ganbatte"). This does not mean that they MUST be perfect, it only reflects upon the idea of 'TRYING to be one's best". In other words, the emphasis is primarily focused on the effort, and very secondarily, on the result.
      As a American clinical psychologist, I have studied the Japanese for most of my life, even taking Japanese in secondary school and university for my language requirement. Except for the pandemic, I have annually travelled to Japan since early childhood. When measured on norms that countries use to describe crime statistics, healthcare access, homelessness, etc., their statistics are only be admired. Essentially, they must be doing something right.

    • @ktowniecity7269
      @ktowniecity7269 Год назад +1

      @@mattsoca1 you may be right but being ignorant is never disturbing. not everyone knows everything. you studied something and have mastered a craft. I'd encourage you to continue thinking after finding something objectionable. Great way to escape that 'confirmation bias drug' the best sort of intelligence is knowing that most decisions we make are based on emotion and our perception. if you learn how to learn then you are on the road. One aspect of this is to be aware that you don't know much and use the strengths of others to get the result for you. The most successful people in life are the ones who listen and learn from others mistakes. its impossible to know everything and be the best in all fields so you master communication skills and build relationships to use others skills and research what you need only. Too many people are too proud and some of the smartest people don't want to use others as they have built their identity around their IQ intelligence..... i see it every fucking day. clever fools

    • @mattsoca1
      @mattsoca1 Год назад +2

      @@ktowniecity7269 I am always open to studying and acquiring more information, as I have done that throughout my life, and am continuing to do that at this time by spending more than a year in Japan researching as much as I can in-person about the culture, society, etc. What I find completely disturbing, are those who speak or form conclusions without understanding all the facts that should always be considered (after all, I don't know anyone in their "right mind" who would want to use a doctor who doesn't follow through on due diligence). Moreover, it is far preferable not to speak "without getting all the facts". On the contrary, being ignorant is disturbing to a degree. But when one speaks while ignorant, it only shows an individual that is "just plain stupid". And besides that last point being a "psychological truism", it only shows an individual who has a serious impediment to self-actualization.
      I fully agree that we need to learn from our mistakes, and then make the appropriate corrections. It is a point that I have focused on in therapy with patients. But, as far as I am concerned, there is no excuse for those who cannot learn from their mistakes. A "better person" who constructively learns from their mistakes, would certainly be far more useful in society, and to themself.

    1:12 That is a long inland sea route.
    2:54 It takes you three hours just to get to the port? I'm already exhausted by your travel, I can't imagine how tired you must be at this point.
    4:22 That looks like Harry Potter's bedroom.
    8:41 I've gotten used to seeing ship employees waving goodbye at departing ships that this kind of feels lonesome.
    21:11 That's Obanai Iguro!
    22:22 Milk from Kumamoto?
    Aside from the affordable price, I can't see how traveling via ferry would be a better option from taking a train. But I guess people have different travel preferences.
    Thanks for another fun trip and stay safe!

    • @travelgeekphotography
      @travelgeekphotography  Год назад +1

      Yeah it was tiring as the port is not easily accessible for people on foot. The reason is most users to the ferry are truck or car drivers😉
      I also like employees waving hands to us but this time, we couldn't see it as the limited space of the deck for safety.. or they didn't wave hands in the first place as it's late at night.
      That's Kumamon, iconic mascot character in Kumamoto haha

    Ferries this size and ability are fairly expensive, so if you can rent one for a profit it's not a bad idea. Also depending on the agreement you don't have the liability in maintaining the ship, it's a win win if this specific ship sits most of the year in a port.
    Edit: Seeing 25:00 is weird, I would have expected 01:00.
