Yes, I think it's a great idea. My advice would be to be specific - tell one story that highlights your intellectual skills and dexierity. Don't try to mention it all in one essay.

would a topic like a circumsion be inappropriate if I don't know talk about the actually thing but just like process and the customs around it.
Sounds like a risky topic, but if you can talk about it with grace and tact, it could be a risk worth trying.
