    I quit back in May. Every time someone left, they did not replace them. Then when covid hit it was a great excuse to say no raises and not hiring any more help. Benefits got crappy. So March of 2021 I gave a 2 month notice. During that time I paid off all my consumer debts, reduced my monthly expenses, and when I quit I was ready to live on a minimal amount of my savings for at least a year if need be, in order to find the job that did not suck the life out of me. It took 3 months, lots of online bs, interviews, and all the crap that goes along with job hunting nowadays. But the job I have now is great. I work only 3 to 4 days a week, the benefits are excellent, and after 90 days I got a big raise. The only regret is that I didn't do it YEARS ago!!

    I just put in my two weeks at my first dev job yesterday after only 8 months of employment. I have no idea what I’m going to do but I felt like my inner spark was burning out. I’m 37, and know I should be focusing on building wealth and stability for my older self, I’ve quit too many difficult paths already, but something was just off and had to give. I’ve travelled a lot, met so many lovely people and seen such amazing natural beauty in the past and it’s really hard to unsee that and just sit in front of my computer screen for 50 weeks a year for someone else’s company/dream. It’s my time now. If I crash and burn, so what. What a strange coincidence I woke up to your video as the first recommendation. Or my phone is spying on me 😆. I appreciate you sharing, it was comforting to hear a narrative so similar to my own.

    I have my Bachelor's but where I live, I only ever got low level secretary jobs for full time work (I had a blast working on and off at music venues, radio stations, and sports teams, but I never had an opportunity for a full time position...it's all based on nepotism here). So I got stuck and for almost 10 years I never moved up, never had decent pay. So when I finally quit in June 2020, I had nothing to lose anyway. I was already freelance writing on the side at that point, and so I got serious about it. I had all the time to do nothing except write and build my skills. I can even complete my novels now. While I still don't have a salaried job, at least my writing is much more promising than the dead-end secretary jobs. I am working towards a full time writing job with a company, and I'd like to actually publish my novels too. Thankfully all of this can be done remotely. I think younger me would be very proud (to the point of tears) because writing is what I have always loved more than anything, ever since I wrote my first story at 5 years old, and I've finally had the time, energy, and determination to actually work for it. (Btw... my Bachelor's is Business Mgmt. I did pursue Journalism at first, but had professors who encouraged me to quit - I was a female who wanted to write about sports, so they straight up told me that would never happen.)

    The real problem is not materialism my dude but payscales. You cannot build a life on plebian wages, if you are paid like a plebian you will be able to do little with your life. Automation or UBI is not going to pay for a solid living standard to live life the way we want to live it.

    • @TyGuyFilmsOfficial
      @TyGuyFilmsOfficial  2 года назад +1

      That is very true, we have to rethink as a society how we structure wage. I think the current system is outdated and Automation along with UBI are good steps towards reform but not the end all be all answer. Many people I talk to don’t even know what they would do without work which is concerning to me. We have to start structuring our lives away from “work” if we want to see true change.
      Thank you for your response and I hope you found the video interesting!

    "People hate their jobs." Speaking for "people"???
    I retired 20 years ago at 45. I loved my job as a software engineer working mostly in tech startups creating consumer products. "People" say they hate their job like it's the job's fault. Someone force you to take that job?
    I worked at one startup for exactly 1 day. They put in a 6x4 cubicle and didn't have a computer ready for me even though they were in a super rush for me to start. So a whole day staring at a wall. F that, I quit. A company that stupid is going nowhere. And they went nowhere.
    When I was in high school my Dad worked at Kodak when Kodak was a big company. He got my older brother a job there and wanted to get me a job there. Steady job, retirement at 65, he thought it was a great opportunity. I joined the Army instead. No F'ing way I was going to punch a clock for 45 years. 3 years in the Army paid for college. I dropped out of college after 2 years to hire into a new company making Atari games. That put me on the startup path. I created 14 products at about 12 different startups. None made a lot of money, but it sure was fun.
    I retired to have the freedom to do things that might not pay well. Whatever interested me. Gardening, fish ponds, playing basketball, remodeling homes. I invented a few non-software products I sold, never made much. It's been a blast.
    Fixing up my current home to sell and then move to SE Asia. Get some land in the mountains and build a house. Maybe start a business there.
    Quitting a job is easy. I've quit a bunch of them. It's a little depressing it's apparently a big event today.

Now it is just a slingshot that has been released and now businesses are finally paying the price for it. This video is really well-done, congratulations, and I wish you best luck with all your enterpreises!
    As I see it, the point of the video is a little misleading though. It conveys the idea that you can pursue your dreams, can be happy and yourself if you lower your expectations just a little bit and focus on what really matters. It may work if someone is talented like you, and has skills in the IT sector. But what if someone is living in a poor country, without proper education and the only way to make a living is to work their ass off next to a line in a giant factory. The boy or girl who made your Nike shoes for example.
    Don't get me wrong! It's not a blame on you or on richer countries at all! I also live a fairly comfortable life right now. I only say that for us being able to go out the fields to chase butterflies and daydream about life meaning, other people need to work hard and struggle day by day to provide all the goods we consume. It is not fair to show that "if I can do it, you can do it".
    I'm afraid that quitting a burden job can be exciting and fulfilling first, but not the ultimate source of happiness and fullfillment. It is all about you and your ego, pretty selfish. Taking responsibility for your family/friends/community is most probably more rewarding on the long run even if you need to do a sh*ttier job. But that is only my opinion.
    Sorry, the comment may sound more passive-agressive than it is intended. It is the drawback when you do not speak a language natively. :)

    • @TyGuyFilmsOfficial
      @TyGuyFilmsOfficial  2 года назад +1

      I fully understand your position and I’m aware that it takes a lot of privilege to do what I am doing and to be in the position that I am in. Not everyone can save enough to be able to pursue their dreams and I know that. But I think if I were to remake this video I would like to say that this isn’t purely about quitting a job. This is more about re-examining my life and questioning the structure in place. Maybe for someone in a less fortunate situation it can be about finding ways to change their situation either by working their way up or possibly even moving to a better place. Easier said than done, and I know there are a lots of barriers (social & economic) that prevent these things from happening.
      However, I think it’s important to always keep questioning the status quo no matter what situation you are in and to strive for better or else your not living life, you’re just surviving.
      Thank you for the thoughtful insight and I appreciate the conversation and viewership. This is why I made this video to start a discussion. Hopefully I don’t come off as too spoiled haha.

    How does a grown person run away from his parents? Just time to grow up, be self-directed and stop crying ffs.

    • @TyGuyFilmsOfficial
      @TyGuyFilmsOfficial  2 года назад +1

      I agree! It is a strange concept to "run away" from your parents at the age of 18+.
      On one hand, slowly dying are the days where people can move out at 18, get a full-time job and support themselves without incurring lots of debt. Maybe it's still possible but definitely harder with rising inflation rates and income stagnation. On the other hand, maybe my generation is getting too comfortable with support from our parents, handouts and expecting too much to be given to us. In your words, maybe it is time to grow up, which I tried to do by moving out to my own apartment and trying to support myself while taking a leave of absence from school.
      But there is also a concept of running away in the nonphysical sense. Our childhood lives are essentially dictated by our parental upbringing. Whether we like it or not, our parents give us our values and subconsciously we are taught how to be a person from them. I'd like to think I, ideologically, ran away, for a time, from them by taking a leave of absence from school and potentially sacrificing what they thought would be a safe career and what they thought my life should be. Regardless of how smart or not that decision was, I really felt like I had run away from their values and felt like my own person.
      The whole idea of running away is childish and careless but also liberating and adventurous. What's more is that usually when a child runs away, they come right back not so long after which makes the whole thing silly and pointless. And that's exactly what I did! I'm still close with my parents and still rely on their support emotionally and sometimes financially. I'm lucky to have that much in my life, though I don't always realize that.
      However silly and pointless running away may be, I still believe that it is good for the soul. You find out more about yourself. Though you may come crawling back to your parents, the bond grows stronger from that separation because you realize what truly is important when you're alone.
      Actually, I don't want to grow up. I want to always be a child; always running away, always challenging, always questioning, always exploring, always crying, always laughing, always being alive, and always being myself.
      I realize I've spent a lot of time on this comment but I found it to be a good exercise and a chance to revisit my thoughts on this video.
      Thank you for watching!

    I was expecting ty the regular guy. Oh well. I've thought about quitting. But over 50 and medical benefits in pandemic times, probably harder to come by, and with my luck, I'd get the thing while transitioning. And end up with that $40K hospital bill that takes the rest of days to pay half off. Assuming the hospital didn't just out right kill me because they needed the bed.

      What do you do now?

      @@olympic-ass-eater I work in a factory. Over simplified, putting tape on boxes. Not so simplified, I run a Zund cutting machine, model S3 with an L1600 table. And I train people to do my job. But I get moved to where ever I'm needed, to include but not limited to putting tape on boxes. OFC rent in said city is nearly $2K a month for a 500 sq ft studio apartment. Which would be 100% of my take home pay, if I wasn't living with my mother for mostly free.

      @@wwShadow7 you live with your parents now? How did u end up with $40k medical bill? Is there like hospital waiver for low-income and u have medicare? How old are u now?

      @@olympic-ass-eater I don't have a $40K medical bill. For those who get covid and end up in the ICU, they get $40K medical bills. So far my only sickness since the first lockdown has been vaccines. Day 4 of booster number one, shot number 3. Sucks just as much as the first dose did last march. The 2nd dose I hardly noticed.
