I’m retired from the aviation industry in the Northeast. I can tell you from what I observed in the video, my first thought was (and I hope I’m wrong) but it looks as if that helicopter intentionally went out of the flight plan. Praying that I’m wrong, but my gut and experience is telling me something isn’t right here

I started to panick because I just now found out about this and my mother works in d.c and she travels back and forth a lot, she wasn’t answering her calls and I started freaking out, thank god about 10 minutes later she answered so she is fine. I couldn’t imagine how I’d deal with this situation if she was on that plane.

No expert, just visually, the BlackH seems to make a beeline for the Plane, with no deviation whatsoever.
Most likely they were looking at the other plane and thought the tower was talking about that plane and supposedly the helicopter had priority and the plane was behind them you can see it the plane had plenty of time to pull up

I have a career flying army helicopters...still do. I've flown in one of this unit's Blackhawks...on this exact air corridor...at night even. You're talking out your arse brother.

As the plane turned to land the landing lights may very well have washed out the NVGs the Hawk pilots had causing momentary disorientation.

I caught the news about this last night. So when I tuned in this morning, listening to the flight path “including ATC” My Spidey senses immediately went off. I am a pilot, and knowing what really went down on 911, there so many holes in this story, I can write a mini novel already. They just happened to swap from runway 01 to runway “33” last minute? Why is the Black Hawk’s radio messages with tower missing in first audio release this morning? So Many Question I Have?
Apparently that’s a normal thing at that airport especially at busy times. So not unusual. The jet was perfectly on path and never saw helicopter probably. Helicopter must have misjudged or panicked. Too many unknowns right now.

Because so many inbound and outbound planes in order to keep things flowing they have them hop over to the next runway so the other one can be used to take off or have another plane land. Maybe a larger one that needs longer runway. I watch a lot of pilots channels and a couple of them had mentioned that that’s what they’ve had to whn flying in there.

What about the anti collision system on both aircraft. They both should have gotten warnings at 5 to 2 miles apart.
They might get alerts but the way it works is it tells each one to either go high or go low. Problem is in this situation they were already too low. I believe below 1000 ft or so they won’t give a command just an alert.

Army helos typically don't have proximity warning systems.

If the airplane was established on final approach and the helicopter entered its path unexpectedly, the helicopter may be at fault.
It is atc asked twice if they had eyes on them and they said yes and bypass behind them they weren't on the standard flight pattern for the helicopter
No maybe they were definitely at fault they were responsible for visual separation.

They are everywhere and too huge to be a child's toy. They are commercial. They have been in my neighborhood for over a month. Sometimes I see choppers flying very close.
99.9999999999% of the time night flight they use NVGs and that looking into landing lights would be like looking into the sun
@rickcoleman8903 It has been said the helicopter was first told to watch for a plane taking off and then mistook the first plane taking off for the second plane landing.
The official story doesn't make much sense. The crashed helicopter was VH-60, a modified executive variant of the Blackhawk. I think it's called the Whitehawk, which is usually used to carry top brass. This is significant because it likely departed from CIA HQ. They say nobody noteworthy was aboard but my trust in that is extremely low. There is big moves happening behind the scenes.
And the plane had a whole Russian delegation. This doesn't pass the smell test.

That's exactly what I thought, I was looking and I said that helicopter looks like it's going faster and headed right for the plane when in actuality from what I observed it would've had plenty of time to get out of the way by turning in another direction. Bc that’s their job and area of operation. They all have to do annual training to maintain their skills and credentials. These pilots are amazing.

Any of us could be threatened and we'd do whatever they said. If terrorists came to me and said they would kidnap and torture my family members if I don't do what they say, I don't know what I'd do. That would be an absolutely excruciating decision. Terrorists are called terrorists because they cause terror and they back it up with their violence. Do you try to save you family but kill 67 innocent people? Or do you lose everyone you love in the worst way possible and save 67 innocent people. It's a question I hope I never have to answer and one that would keep you p at nights wondering. If it was just my life on the line, I could probably do the right thing, but when they start threatening your family, would it change your mind? I'm no James Bond and couldn't figure a way out. I would hope to do the right thing but I couldn't guarantee.

I thought the same thing as you. That was threading a needle type of deal. The speed of each aircraft clearly speaks of a pilot suicide as the pilot did not reply to the tower right before the crash.

Helicopters have clear view.. they said it was a clear sky.. Why would the helicopter pilot fly straight into a plane that was on a landing path? The plane had landing lights on and everything.. The plane would’ve stood out like a sore thumb to the helicopter pilots.. There needs to be an investigation into the people on the helicopter and the people on the plane
At night coming from the side they wouldn’t have seen much. Couple flashing lights and darkness. Also the bright glaring lights on the ground probably didn’t help. I guarantee the jet pilots never seen the helicopter at all. The jet was literally 30 seconds from landing was around 400 feet above ground.
NTSB will definitely investigate.

The helicopter flight path required that the helicopter stay below 200 feet above the ground. The radar data showed the helicopter at 300 feet above the ground.
Before the crash it was at 400.
FACT 1: You will NEVER know the TRUTH about what happened... Blackhawk helicopters dont go joy riding around the whitehouse.
FACT 2: When the govt tell you its a training exercise... you know its not.
FACT 3: disregard your facts. This was an annual proficiency training exercise and happens all the time when your job is doing things like PAT missions here in the National Capital Region, as my flier husband does.
If you see the drawing of where they were and the path they took, when the air traffic controller told the Blackhawk to go behind the jet, the Blackhawk turned into the jet
There was also another plane taking off in the line of sight of the helicopter..

It's possible when asked if you see the plane, they were looking at the second plane??? There were 2 planes in sight. I may be wrong but that is what was reported all night.
you know when i first was watch the news last night they said they had 4 people alive i was thinking it had to be the helicopter. but today they are saying they are all dead. i mean i even listen to the radio thing they had on twitter and the people were saying we pulled out 4 survivors. i went and try to find the audio recording that had them saying they pull 4 survivors and asking for ambulance. But i cannot find it now. it's like gone.

I listened to a YT video called the issue about the plane and helicopter crash. The guy they interviewed is a pilot with other credentials. He said what he noticed is that ATC had 2 planes landing on 2 different runways at the same time. ATC asked, "Do you see the plane?" Helicopter confirms. He also said the way the helicopter was flying in, they would be looking to their right. Very unfortunate ATC did not mention that there were 2 planes landing at the same time. That was his take on it. Will find out more later on. It's so sad. Thoughts and prayers to all affected ❤🙏

This was the most avoidable crash ever! So much that it doesn't seem like an accident. I mean how incompetent do you have to be to not have this happen. All the fancy equipment, clear vision and the helicopter didn't see the damn plane? So obvious it was on purpose cause that helicopter went straight path to that plane
Where we lived in wNC, there was a training area beyond the mountain. We were walking our new puppy in our development, and out of nowhere ,a Blackhawk was almost on top of us. It moved away, the other direction so fast, I didn't have time to think about what had just happened. They disappeared as fast as it appeared. Our dog didn't even have time to hear it coming.

Night vision goggles are awesome but limit field of view to looking through a toilet paper roll.
When aircraft are at low level it's very easy to lose them in the congestion of city lights.
There were 3 RJ's in the area...One had just taken off 2 were in bound for landing. The helo pilot may have been acknowledging that he saw the wrong plane.

Airtraffic control first told helicopter to watch out for plane taking off. Then changed to having them look out for the landing plane. I think aircraft control wasn't clear enough with the second plane that was landing.

it looked like the hellicopter went into the airplane, my thought and prayers to all the family's that lost a loved one in this accident.
The blackhawk flew up and into that plane, rotors hitting the bottom of the plane.. no doubt this was on purpose.. just look at the flight path
notice that the names inside the black hawk have not been released - i'm not gonna pretend i don't think this is a cover up
i have never flown anything in my life, ever - but i do know that the tech on the chopper is next level and designed to prevent this

sobbing for these people and their families. there's no way this wasn't intentional. a helicopter didn't see a massive fcking plane with huge lights lighting up the entire area? didnt know they were crossing the path where planes land? don't care if it was a "training flight", that's even more suspicious for multiple reasons. this is sick.

@skyycam don't need corrective actions from Avoidance systems. The mere fact it was triggered should be enough to place cockpit crew on heightened alert and preparedness for potential emergency action.
TCAS is not on army helos. Can't speak to how the RJ crew was reacting to their TCAS...yet

I have about 2000 hours in a blackhawk as a non-rated crew member and I can tell you as easy as aircraft are to see. It’s a big ass sky and it’s just as easy to miss them. I have a handful of times where we have had near miss. If you flown in these aircraft as a crewmember, you can totally understand how me their collisions happen.

They do have a lot of technological systems that tells them they are about to collide. ATC asked the helicopter 30 seconds prior to liftoff if he had a visual on the plane. I did not hear the blackhawk respond so its possible he did not hear ATC.. Also, its extremely difficult to see a plane when you are in another aircraft. When you are on the ground and looking up in the sky, it's very easy to see any sized plane. When you are concentrating on taking off you are looking at instruments constantly and going over check lists its hard to see aircraft around you, now you throw in darkness and a busy city as DC with lights everywhere you add in another layer of difficulty. This will be a long investigation but my opinion is the helicopter pilots did not see them.

I suspect that this was either intentional or negligent. There is NO WAY, that helicopters TCAS system was not going bonkers blaring alarms. It litterally tells the pilot where to go with audio and visual signals. You can not miss it or ignore it. This is bad, really bad.
Except there IS a way bc these PAT Blackhawks don't have TCAS/ADSB.
Army helos do not have TCAS. Now these are unique VIP helos so they might... might.
I'm a career army helo pilot& have flown on this unit's aircraft as a passenger on this route, at night. Ya gotta stop the speculation.
@theofficertatum . All law & air control scanners stated it was an Army Chinook, not Black Hawk.
Unqualified people in air traffic control were responsible, apparently the test to become an air traffic control agent isnt all that difficult bc of certain policies to make things fair for everyone. Watch another video about the ridiculous assement that decides weather or not ur qualified apparently u get more pts on the test for being an athelete then an actual pilot. Also over worked air traffic control agents could have played a role in this tragedy.

@Care-o9i the black box recovery, and finding out the qualifications of both pilots as well as the air traffic controller will also give us more information about how this tragedy happenend. There r to many factors to knw for sure on day 2 of the investigation what the main cause was and who is actually liable for what happenend.

@Lumberton60 good chance it was the test to take for the air traffic control apparently has a part that is multiple choice a,b,c,d and apparently u r also graded on a system of pts so a pilot w a liscncese would get 4 pts if ur a minority u would automatically get 5 pts if ur an athlete u get 5 pts but if u have a college degree u might only get one pt so instead of being based off qualifications it's basically based off what some wack job decided was more important to create equality, which was a recipe for disaster. I would rather have the college educated person w the degree who trained for the position as opposed to a washed up highschool athlete who got the position simply bc someone didn't like there wasnt enough diversity, there nothing wrong w people working the job from any group bc in the end the only thing that really matters is they actually knw what they r doing. The black boxes from the aircraft should give more insight to the ultimate cause of the accident. Also, another scary fact is planes even if they r missing parts and need matiance, r still allowed to fly, so this could be pilot error, mechanical error, or most like air traffic controller error. For the amount of money 💰 we the average people pay for flying, u would think 🤔 they could bother hiring qualified individuals, lol they have a shortage of fly controllers if that were true why did 3,000 white atc's sue the faa for refusing to hire them based off race and diversity quotas. Accidents like this one were totally avoidable if atc wasn't over worked and people were hired off of merrit and skills as opposed to have we need to make these jobs less white and more diverse. I won't be flying anytime soon but feel bad for those who have too.
