Thank you for introducing me to your PopPop. I love how you tell the story of him and your grandmother sitting on the porch, smoking cigarettes and practicing being still. Even though you are aware of the negative aspects of cigarette smoking you were able to turn the time they spent on the porch smoking cigarettes into an act of meditation. You respected them by not negatively commenting on that behavior. I love how you did that. I do believe that every grandparent deserves to be spoken of with the respect and dignity in which you spoke of your Pop Pop. Thank you for sharing him with us. Happy birthday to him.
This was beautiful❤ reminds me of my Jamaican grandad. He wasn’t a man of many words and he always sat on the veranda and I loved eating oranges with him. I miss all my grandparents but I honour and remember them ❤❤ our grandparents definitely teach us a lot even if we don’t understand at first as children
May your Pop Pop rest in peace and light. Thank you for sharing him with us. He was born during the time period that my parents were born (1920 & 1924). They are both in the ancestral realm, now. There were so many things I wished I'd known to ask them about the things they didn't (or couldn't) share. May they too rest in peace.
Thank you so much for sharing! Your memories of you grandfather truly remind me of mine…he as well was a very quite man, but he was not involved in family gatherings much unless he was recording them with his video camera…in which I am thankful for because I can go back and relive my life as a kid. My grandfathers family wasn’t close, and he unfortunately found his mother dead as a result of suicide, so his separation mentally and emotionally was because of what he experienced. my grandmother on the other hand was the total opposite and so was/is her family…extremely family oriented, loud, involved…but they somehow managed to coexist and show love how they knew how to love. During my grandfathers passing I was made aware how he loved poetry which I wish I would have known because I started writing poetry at the age of 13, we could have bonded on that…the thing I do have to live through his spirit with is my passion for plants now, he was a plant and herb man! His garden was perfection…I know this was long, but thank you again ❤
Thank you so much for sharing and I believe that it was the universe that brought this video to me. I actually talked about my Grandad today at work remembering his laugh and his sayings. So by your video I also thought about other memories of him and the true Man that is was. I will honor him and all of my grands on their birthday's going forward because I think that is important not just for me , but also for my children and our continued legacy. Again thanks for sharing
RIP Pop Pop. 🙏🏽 I didn’t get to know either of my Grandfathers, and I’m a couple years older than you so I felt this. My mom’s father passed when she was 9. My paternal grandfather I met as a baby, but wasn’t close to as I got older. I was told he was a buffalo soldier though, and take pride in that. 😊 Thank you for sharing this it’s the first day of the new year, & you’ve given me something to reflect on. Your videos are always so pleasant, like food for the soul & your voice is soothing. So I said I wanted to hear you as the first content I consume in 2024. 😁 I write poetry & prose, mainly centered on empowering black women too. I really find you to be inspiring, and a big help with me beating procrastination. So thank you sis, and happy new year!! 💛
