Thanks man! Weʻll see what it all looks like when we start building it. I was thinking that maybe gum walls would look more old school. Thanks for the comment and for watching! 🤙🏻
Aagghhhh... Those rim strips can be a PITA! I remember dealing with those when I converted my MTB tires over to tubeless. I originally thought I bought the wrong size too cause they were so tight. Just found your channel and am loving the content! I think those parts are going to look awesome when you are done. So freaking cool that you two were building bikes together back in the day!
Thanks man! Appreciate you saying that! Yeah, weʻre super fortunate to be able to still hang out 40 some years later, still riding bikes and still building ʻem. Thank you so much for sharing your comment and for watching! Welcome aboard! 🤙🏻
Did a similar build 2-3 years ago using a 29. Btw, Eddie had skinwalls on his bike. Not white walls. No need for rim strips on those mags. Btw, Id use the factory GT tires on that build.
I hear you guys on the Pink 26" Hollywood as the goto color choice. So rad! But I have one of the recent 20" Trick Stars in pink, so I really want to get a lavender one and have him sign it at the Buckeye Bike Show. 🤞
Dude, that would be awesome since youʻre going to that show! But they will only have 20 of each color available. I wonder what theyʻll cost? Hope you can get one! 🤙🏻
Add the gyro just for the fun of it!! Looks like a great build! I’m always playing around with gear ratios and when you add the wheel size it changes everything. Would the dia compe v-brake be a better blue to match the rest? I know how you are with legos LOL. Mahalo for the video!! You guys crack me up with the intro and posing for the thumbnail😆😆😆!! 🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼

I think the pakalolo was flowing at the start. 😆 j/k Nice parts haul, guys! Too bad the color of the Dia Comps are off. As to the rim tape, I always put some on all my bikes. Better safe than sorry. Not really a fan of the whitewalls as it looks like too much white. But it's your build so whatever you guys choose. Looking forward to the frame soon I hope! I don't mind the long videos. I like watching the longer ones.
Yeah, blue is a hard color to match. Everyone seems to have their own shade when they do their anodizing. Iʻm not sure of the white walls either when I put them next to each other. Weʻll see what they look like when we get this build started. Thanks for the comment about the longer videos! Appreciate you tuning in! 🤙🏻
Love your channel but the videos are too short. This one actually took me three days to finish! Too busy with life. Thanks for another fun/funny start to another build
Too short or too long?? 😂 Wait til you see the one that dropped today.....one of our longest yet. Thanks for still tuning in, even if it takes you a couple of days to watch one video! Appreciate you! 🤙🏻
@@cruisinginthe808 I suggest using a gear inch calculator. For a 26" bike with 1.75" wide tire, 39-17 will be around 58 gear inches, which is pretty standard for big bmx (58 to 60 range, easy to pedal). I prefer a little higher so I can pedal faster, but it's harder to pedal that way when riding slower. Good luck!
I am pretty sure you will have an issue with those brake levers as sidepull calipers and v-brakes don’t use the same kind of levers. You should use the newer Dia-Compe MX-2 levers which are compatible with both types. Can’t wait to see the build. Cheers from Montreal Canada
That could be a possibility as Iʻve never mixed the two before this build. Iʻm gonna ask around more and I appreciate you bringing that up for us to check out! Appreciate you and thanks for watching! 🤙🏻
Need the rim strip? Nah, only to cover spoke holes/hardware. The tube will fill into those holes and get pinched, eventually punctured and flat. No holes, not needed! But like you said, if there are some imperfections, it doesn't hurt. If there is anything sharp, you should file that down. I actually had that recently on a GT Pro Series wheel. The bike was JUNK!! I'll probably make a video about it. The bottom bracket shell was irregular on TWO FRAMES. On this bike, make sure the spindle goes through the bearings without any major trouble.
Thanks for those tips! My guess is these bikes may not have the quality control like some other brands? But I have no idea. Weʻll see as we begin to put this together. Thanks always for coming through with the clutch info! 🤙🏻
ohhh that looks nice, man. i can almost picture it complete. if the frame is white , i think the pro performers all had silver forks... is that right? i dont remember. its going to look nice tho. i cant wait to see it when you guys are done.
The frame will be that bright yellow so Iʻm hoping the white mags go well with that color combo. Itʻs what Eddie had on that bike so weʻll see how it all comes together. Thanks for the comments and for watching! 🤙🏻
I like how he says we all ran the GT Power Series crank umm no the rest of us where poor and ran the one piece crank with a GT wings or a Dyno Sprocket lol…
Did we say we all ran them? Because I only remember using one piece cranks and more so because I couldnʻt afford the expensive three piece cranks and the one piece cranks were stronger and didnʻt bend.
Hey Kevin and Bernie , I’m so glad to see a new video , I’ve been checking…I think this is going to be a great looking GT ; I was hoping I could find out where you found your GT decals for the frame and forks , I’m doing a GT build and after I got my frame powder coated I tried calling GT direct and they said they don’t sell my bike year ( 06’ ) because they were decals buried in clear coat . Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thx again and keep up the fun content…
