Η Κύθνος αν μπορούσε να απλώσει τα χέρια της θα άγγιζε με το ένα χέρι τη Τζιά (Κέα) και με το άλλο τη Σέριφο. Πάνω στο χάρτη του Αιγαίου μοιάζει με ένα πουλί που ‘χει τεντώσει το ‘να του φτερό προς το Βοριά και το άλλο -μακρύτερο- εκτείνεται ακόμα προς το Νότο, λες και θέλει να απογειωθεί, να ξεκολλήσει απ’ το απέραντο γαλάζιο του Αιγαίου και να πετάξει μακριά, σ’ άγνωστα μέρη παίρνοντας μαζί του και όλους τους θησαυρούς του. Τα δαντελωτά ακρογιάλια, τα πανέμορφα τοπία, τα χρυσοκόκκινα ηλιοβασιλέματα, τους ευωδιαστούς ανθόκηπους, τις κατάλευκες εκκλησιές, τα παραδοσιακά σπίτια με τις κόκκινες σκεπές, τα γραφικά σοκάκια, τους μοναχικούς ανεμόμυλους, την πανάρχαια ιστορία του, τα αρχαιολογικά του ευρήματα, τα ιαματικά του λουτρά, τους χαρούμενους και φιλόξενους κατοίκους.
Η Κύθνος απέχει 56 ναυτικά μίλια από το λιμάνι του Πειραιά, μια απόσταση που με τα σύγχρονα πλοία που προσεγγίζουν το νησί καλύπτεται μέσα σε 2 ώρες και 40 λεπτά. Από το λιμάνι του Λαυρίου η απόσταση καλύπτεται μέσα σε 2 ώρες.
If Kythnos could reach out its hands it would reach Kea with one hand and Serifos with the other. Looking at it on a map it’s like a bird with stretched wings to the North and to the South as if it’s ready to fly, to get away from the deep blue Aegean waters and fly away to unknown places with all its treasures: the beaches, the beautiful landscapes , the golden sunsets, the scented gardens, the churches, the traditional houses with the red roofs, the picturesque streets, the lonely windmills, the ancient history, the archaeological sites, the thermal springs , the joyful and hospitable people.
Kythnos is only 56 nautical miles away from Piraeus port, a distance which is covered within 2 hrs and 40 min. by the modern ships that reach the island. From the port of Lavrio the distance is only 2 hrs.
