    As the co-organiser of Andre Bertel Sensei's SA 2019 Seminar, I would like to extend my most sincere thanks and appreciation to Andre Sensei for giving so freely of his knowledge and expertise. In short, Andre Sensei is a dynamic and highly-skilled teacher as well as an incredibly humble karateka. The huge amount of preparation and effort which he puts into his Seminars is testament to his level of professionalism. It is therefore unsurprising to me, and deservedly so, that the demand for his International Seminars is on the increase. For any group wanting to experience Shotokan Karate as a true form of Japanese Budo, I can highly recommend Andre Sensei - without question he is one of Shotokan's leading contemporary masters. - Gary Grapentin

      Gary Grapentin Sensei, thank you so much for your kind words and hosting for a second time. I was deeply impressed by the approach of USR for giving full freedom to its members and really focusing on the lifting of peoples Karate ability. This, to me in an organizational sense, is returning karate to its origins. I am 100% that the USR will succeed and build very strong Budo Karate in South Africa; furthermore, foster wonderful friendships without all the political power baggage.
      Greetings and thanks again from Oita city Japan, Andre

    I might be wrong but from what i have gathered is that while Bertels style might seem odd to some modern practitioners of Karate. This style is actually more faithful to the original style of Karate that was practicised at Okinawa which was a more combat oriented style with different kinds of joint twisting and locking movements involved in it. The current styles of Karate seem to be designed around Karate as a sport rather than as a way of trying to end the fight as quickly as possible.

      Anytime Brother keep your spirit strong as well as your physical body and your heart if you stay true to the mantra of the Kyokushin karate dojo kun and the shotokun karate dojo kun.
      You will go far once you are dead physically men do not die no on has ever seen a dead man only dead physical bodies exist not dead men including "wo"man!!!!!
      So Sosai oyama mother did not raise an idiot that is for sure Andre bertel.

      There are things I can not say here as the enemy watch's but let me repeat sosai oyama had it upstairs he was very switched on.
      So let's conclude all earthly human beings are at the Quontum level Not physical we are spirits and we have new bodies and new lives and no end nothing ever ceases to exist the essence is always preserved.

      Except his stances, are typical Shotokan way to far apart to be Okinawan. He also does snap punches to make the GI Pop!, Not a karate strike. Also he shows a What he calls Block then strikes, that is not a martial art way. Techniques have to be simultaneously, also you would never block an opponent, there are no blocks in Karate, so called blocking is pointless.

      @@shaneroberg309 Thank you very much. I briefly cross trained in Kyokushin between 1988 and 1991 (not regularly, but a few months here and there).
      I found the kata really difficult as they were so different from Shotokan. But I greatly enjoyed the Kyokushin style of kumite and conditioning. Overall, a great experience and I made several life friends.

      Our thoughts and prayers are with the Islamic community in Christchurch New Zealand, especially the families and friends of the victims, also those still fighting to survive. I am so disgusted by this hate crime, no words can describe. Such cowardly evil human beings will never stop good people (the vast majority of people around the world) nor change hearts: human history clearly and consistently elucidates that. So while they may kill and hurt others so deeply, they are the losers-the scum-of world history.

    When I first saw your videos I was impressed by your spirit and technique.
    But the more I look the more it seems you want to show off your skills by beating up students on your seminars. They let you demonstrate your waza and you seem to enjoy striking them with a bit too much force then actually necessary for the demonstration. I for one would respect you more if your teaching was a bit more humble. And I’m not referring to the post beating handshake and bow.

      No blood was drawn and no one was doubled over in pain, so what's the problem?
      Shotokan Karate isn't air karate, a bit of contact is good.
      I think Bertel Sensei shows great control whilst showing a technique's desired impact, the man is a Budo Karateka through and through.

    • @andrebertel
      @andrebertel  5 лет назад +13

      The concept of control in true budo is to move as powerfully as possible and impact without causing any damage (when training with partners). Touching without explosive speed and power is not control nor related to martial arts. Please learn about 'SUN DOME' so your can practice and recieve techniques which are safe but can be immediately adapted to cause maximum damage outside of the dojo. All the best from Japan.

    • @DenniWintyr
      @DenniWintyr 5 лет назад +6

      André never uses too much force with his students, he adjusts precisely for the person that he's working with. If you had a better eye for karate you should be able to see the control he's using in every one of these cases that, were it not applied, the student would be seriously harmed.
      I trained with André for around 15 years, & have never seen him injure a student. If you had an understanding of his actual level of skill, you would realise that he is one of the most humble karateka you will ever encounter

    • @sochin7777
      @sochin7777 5 лет назад +2

      AFAIK, "sundome" is about self-control and controlling the technique, stopping just before impact. One should move at full force and speed and have so much control that the opponent is not affected. Similar to swinging a sword and stopping just before cutting an apple, the closer the technique is to full force and the closer you get to the skin of the apple the better. Is that correct?

      C'est pour renseigner qu'on fait ça c'est pareil en judo c'est pareil dans tous les sports. On fait la forme la plus simple et puis après on la met en pratique dans un combat réel. Tu as commencé par apprendre à conduire avant d'apprendre à piloter. C'est une forme d'apprentissage qu'il y a partout où tu as commencé à apprendre les lettres avant d'apprendre à écrire.
      C'est étonnant que tu ne comprennes pas ça.
