every time people talk about how Splatoon and Animal Crossing share the same team, it really confuses me because the credits for Splatoon 3 seem to have very little overlap with Animal Crossing developers. Of course the main producer is involved with both, but pretty much none of the other developers seem to be.
People tend to assume "same producer, same team" and its just not accurate. "Team Asano" for example is basically just the producer... but the developers are different companies.
It is incredible how much work and information went into this. However, I must admit, that it was hard to follow with just voice over random clips from trailers. Maybe make the images shown more relevant to what you are currently talking about? I mean you already had the whole diagram that you could have used to highlight what you are currently talking about and which cross connections exist. I believe that would make things way easier to follow. Still outstanding work though. Keep it up!
I think support studios and what they do is very poorly understood in the video games industry as a whole, I’d love to see a video from you diving into some specific first party support studio and what the do etc. You do great work keep it up!
Seems like you missed Fire Emblem Heroes from Intelligent Systems. It's Nintendo's 2nd most successful (though through their partner) mobile endeavor, and it seems to be going relatively strong still.
I was trying (not entirely successfully) to focus on the non-mobile games since I can find credits for those. Heroes is on the infographic. I assume it's a subset of the same team.
As someone that still plays this game f2p, I'd argue it isn't doing that well. Still well enough to sustain itsself, but the powercreep is getting so insane that it becomes harder and harder to justify investing even just your time into it. I can't fathom how people spend money on the game with the rate at which these "investments" lose their value.
Sony (mostly) just buys studios and pays third party to go exclusive. Thats why their "first party" games have no Sony "identity." For example: Astrobot. Its best described as a Nintendo platformer not by Nintendo.
Syn Sophia is apparently working on Fitness Boxing 3, so they kinda haven't completely moved on from working with Nintendo even though they're only publishing the game outside of Japan. Also, Genius Sonority is independent. I don't think TPC would have given them the leeway to make the Denpa Men games. I do think it's worth noting that Nintendo's relationship with Eighting stagnated after the Kururin games and Master of Illusion, and yet they've seemingly come back in full force as one of EPD's most trusted partners in the Switch era. So I don't think any studio Nintendo's worked with before that is still around is off the table.
That's fair about 8ing - Tose is another studio that has been doing a lot of support work but has developed for Nintendo before. Still, in the interests of keeping it somewhat streamlined, I've stuck to recent teams. (Also, I suspect - though haven't checked - that it's a different group within 8ing who are after all quite a large company, well over 200 employees).
The only developer that matters is the one making the Advance Wars sequel. The core mechanic can be changing COs every turn. I’ll call it: Advance Wars: Switch 2 What do you mean you can’t find any evidence of a sequel?!?!?!?!?
I'm probably in the minority, but I wish Nintendo would consolidate some of these mini-game collection teams & have them work on something more substantial. We don't need multiple 1-2 Switch, Mario Party, Warioware & Wii Sports style games ever gen. That's not even counting games like Ring Fit, all the Labo stuff or Game Builder Garage. I like experimental stuff, but these games are getting multiple releases each. And instead of feeling unique & original, they feel like release lineup filler & start feeling samey. Obviously, I'm not saying abandon Mario Party or something, only that I don't feel like we need so many mini game collection party games.

Well, the credit lists takes about 1100 lines. It's probably a bit under 1000 in terms of named people but it includes subcontracted groups. A lot of these involve translations, VA etc so the actual core dev team isn't quite so large.
