    Back in the day we ran B-81s and DM Macks with under bed hoists. Most times if they flipped, you could stand them up with a loader, fill the fluids, and finish out the day. Usually just fender, door, and mirror damage

    You may have to do what I have done on older trucks. Take what they will give you for the total but tell them you want to retain the salvage. If not they may try to screw you. You should be able to ask what they consider the salvage is worth. The owner of the vehicle is suppose to be able to get first choice on the salvage.

    Growing pains is part of the business. I watched my boss go from 6 trucks back in 2006 to 30 trucks here in 2018 and there might be more in 2019. Seen everything from driver's having accidents to just tearing up stuff. The dump truck business is or can be a roller coaster business. Past few years the demand for trucks has been high and with that demand people and owners go out and purchase trucks to meet that demand. The Vocational market has been hot as of late. The paving company my boss works with will have or ask him to purchase trucks for the upcoming season. They asked for him last year to purchase 5 quads for this year. No your not an idiot, your just trying to fill a demand and things just aren't falling in to place. The struggle is real, and it's just like life, that's not easy either. Hopefully things will get better for you and your company. Thanks for sharing. 👍

    Another way of laying a truck over is having wore out pins (probably not greased regularly) where the body attach to the frame rail and dumping on a slight lean with grinding or asphalt on. We had a older truck (2006) dumping in the paver while in a curve that almost took the paver with it. Luckily the driver realized the situation and took actions to prevent it. He'd never put himself in that situation after that.

    most of the dump trucks that I seen flepped over had the same suspention like this one (hendricson 460). What happens is that rubber seperets from metal and you cant tell unless you jack up the truck on rear end and check if its intact

      Man thank you for this comment, I was about to but a Peterbilt 348 tri axle dump truck with a rubber Hendrickson suspension. Paccar px9 with a allison automatic. What would you recommend suspension wise and truck wise? I know to stay away from airbag suspensions(and rubber now), and get a steel bed that curves up on the sides so everything is more centered.

    The two most common reasons dump trucks flip over is the truck driver is speeding and reckless driving I have seen many dump truck drivers doing that. There's really no reason to add excuses as to why the truck flipped over. Just a few years ago a few miles from my town a dump truck ran a red light and slammed into a school bus the driver of the truck said his brakes failed which his brakes were working.

    • @juliogonzo2718

    Justin, back before 2007 when most truck beds were still steel, and diesel fuel still had some lubrication left in it, we used a sprayer just like the one you showed in the cab to apply diesel to the beds to help keep the material from sticking. Then in 2007 they took just about everything slippery out of our fuel, so we started blending waste oil with the fuel to help out. Then they started getting on everyone about using anything hazardous to the environment as a bed liner. So we went to using Dry Slide which is a bit pricey, but it does work even with wash out material. The brush on stuff lasts about a month, and there are aerosol cans you can throw in the cab for the drivers to touch up sticky spots between applications. Short of a 4 foot level with new drivers to put on the tailgate before dumping, it's pretty cheap and useful insurance.

  • @llcruzn5426

    The number one reason turn overs is driver error. In your case bed length also worked against you.
    Most dump beds have a doghouse using the regular cylinder setup. To not have it, you need to use a trunnion system, in which the front of the body slopes. A lot of people don’t like that look. Or use the scissor jack system, but it has it’s limits also, most bed length.
    My family has owned hundreds of dump trucks since 1928. Owned a gravel pit for 50 years, dug basements for high rises and other major excavation projects. We’ve hauled it all over the years dirt, sand, gravel, asphalt and more. And only had two turnovers both driver errors.

    What we used to do was spray the box down with Diesel if we were hauling this junk. I hated hauling that shit for this reason. Still never turned a truck over. We also never hauled that shit in long body dump boxes like that either. Ours were standard size with maybe one auxiliary axel. We also had vibrating dump beds too. That helped a ton like you wouldn’t believe.
    I think if they wouldn’t put the dog boxes in the boxes and added a second hydraulic ram it would help with stability a lot. In my opinion, I think that should be a standard thing in all dumps.

My problem with it is it can dump out like a dam breaking and overflow the paver. The operator on the pavers get pissed with this truck. I've never flipped a truck but I've seen a few flipped. I have to climb in the beds to measure the cubic yards when we are hauling borrow. I measure the bed then the dog box subtract the two then take that number and multiply by 25% for shrinkage and get the payable cubic yards.

    My guess is they will write it off as a total loss. Seems a shame to write off a good truck but it not viable if it goes into a workshop with their costs. You get a replacement lease vehicle to take up the slack while it off the road? To stop roll overs we had trucks with what they called a walking bed. Like a conveyer belt in the bottom of the bed to move the load out as it was tipped. If the load sticks you end up with a lot of weight high up in the air. You did nothing wrong mate,shit happens.

    And one other thing, when your driving think about what ever you want. When you back into a pile , pop that tail gate and start to go up its time to do your job. Either you see what ever your hauling start coming out orrrr, leave the pto in gear, let the bed crawl going up while you exit the truck to see why the shit isn't flying out of that tail gate. It ain't rock science and I've done it hundreds if times. And, as far as loading with the grinder they ( the grinder) will always load you from the dog House back. That's the way it's done. And when at the plant loading asphalt, with a 50,000 pound six wheeler once I have my Mark for lining up with the chute the mix( asphalt) will hit the dog house and taper back and finish about a foot or two short of the tail gate. When I was lazy and didn't have to tarp it because it was too hot I would not even lock the tail gate. I knew exactly where the shit was at in that truck. They always load you from the the dog house back. With a semi naturally you have to move. How many times is up to the plant and what your loading out of, a silo or the plant. I never drove a multi multi axle straight dump truck like you guys have, I imagine its the same.

And last as a mechanic for 20years i have know alot of dump truck drivers hauling everything from asphalt to sticky clay and very few get layed over just look in the cab and you can see where the problem is its the driver

    A few issues appeared to me {BUT I'M NOT STANDING THERE}
    1 look hard at the frame under the mast cylinder , try to see if under load it flexes or allows sway.
    2 I was noticing from the mast cylinder back to the 1st drive axle No cross frames near top of frame? How is this frame not flexing or swaying all that distance No cross brasses?
    3 At Dog House Take note of WEAR Not damage But wear on the pin mount and pin journals. Might be part of the tendency to get a tip over going!
    4 The tag axles Were they deployed! And I noticed they are set in {nearer frame} Than rear drive axles.
    All thoughts like I said I'm Not standing there!

    If you bang the tailgate hard 5 or 6 times you wont have anything stick in there. Another thing you can do is get a vibrator in the bed. I hauled everything from millings base surface gravel. Never had anything stick. Only thing that may not come out by banging gate is wet red clay fill dirt. Good driver wont roll a truck. I drove for 10 years. Never had an accident.

    The frame of the truck should be heavier than whatever is in the box. Otherwise you have a high center of gravity and can easily flip over. Put a 20-ton chunk of lead down on the bottom of the frame rails and I bet you won't be flipping over.

    Put a fuel sprayer on them with a 50ft hose reel ..... The hell with the Jucie Jug ... All you need is a lift pump from a f250 . Keep the bed greased and nothing will stick . My buddy just had his truck roll over .. He had his truck insured for 80,000 Well just cause you pay insurance for the truck to be insured at that amount doesn't mean you'll get 80,000. They battled with him and he ended up taking 36,000 .. Theres nothing he could do . Screw the insurance companys .

    • @mikeorood1975
      @mikeorood1975 6 лет назад

      Yup best sprayer pump you can get ... 120 bucks 3/8 Fuel injection hose that shit will spray 35ft in the air . Use a air blower deal drill out a grease zerk and screw it in for the tip for the spray nozzle . Hop out grease her up . No smell in the cab and no bottles of diesel leaking in the floor and pain in the ass refills at the gas station . Just tap right into the motors fuel line . with a T fitting and a shut off ball valve to the hose reel .
