aggy ace come on don’t recommend an american to live in Konya. Because she can’t live in any place in Turkey than izmir as she said. It’s the most european city in Turkey so the best place for foreigners to live. That’s why she doesn’t want to leave Izmir any more.
@@esraoz273 mine was not a recommendation about going to Konya but an example for someone who want to see conservative Islamic life style without going to further east of Turkey. Funny story ! You know actually Agri means 'Pain' in Turkish :) My mother is a doctor too. She served in Diyarbakir for 2 years. Tense times. I hope you will remember your experience in Agri when you go back to US. These people (all the government officials, doctors, teachers, etc) serving in the east, risk out their lives to serve an underdeveloped part of the country, to help people in need. Terrorists specifically target them, because they feed off of this regions poverty. They are not 'freedom fighters'.
Your experience in Agri is much different from the modern bubble most of us live in big cities. But what you saw is the real life in for the majority of people around the world. How did you feel when you saw children with rotten teeth? How did you feel when you saw poverty without any hope of a better standard of life? Did you not feel to help in any way? Were you not angry with the world that has the means to help? I would guess that Izmir also has poor areas with children having rotten teeth. But usually foreigners don’t go there, and locals that have are middle economic class. You were lucky to have that experience, I would love to go to Agri and help people. I am not a dentist to help the children for free. I am a computer programmer and can help children understand programming, Microsoft excel, etc. I can also help them learn English as English is an international language. And I will gladly learn the Turkish language. I love Turkish people and culture.
Dear Chelsea, By chance I found your videos on you tube. My name is Berat I'm 59 years old and I was born in Dayton Ohio. By the way I'm female. My mom and dad are originally Turkish. So I have duo citizenship. Like you I'm very acquianted with both countries. I married a Turk when I was 20 years old. I have 3 children and a grandson. God did I enjoy your story about Agri. Nothing you mentioned is wrong all the facts are correct because I've done extensive tours to the region of Turkey. I salute you for your courage. What an experice. If you survive these places you can travel to almost anywhere an earth. Now you have a very vivid insight of under developed places. Use your experinces in a usefull way. Now you have seen a corner of a different world. When you live all your life in the States you get the impression that the whole world is like that, but unfortunetly, like Agri there are some many places that are deprived from modern life. The hospitals in regions like this are just like you describe. One doctor takes care aruond 50-60 patience a day. I wish the mother didn't insist to move with the children to Agri. It was a risk. You getting sick constantly openned the way for you and the children to move back to Izmir. You constantly got sick because the food water everything was foreign to you.I'm going to follow you and hope to keep incontact with you😄
3:30 Actually you do not decide where you want to live ad work. Goverment says "At that city, at that hospital we need this expert. You will go there or you can resign" 6:30 Actually it is not about being a foreigner. It is a common thing out of metropol cities all around the city to wellcome a person and meet with that person. It is a really good thing actually, you get to know everybody in a short time.
Laughed so much on the hospitality and the gossip part but yeah i can imagine all the thing you lived there even though i never lived Ağrı im glad your back to Izmir hahah Pamukkale is good place btw. As a Turk i couldnt live in Ağrı aswell after i growed up in a big city in Istanbul so thanks for your honest opinions u were absolutely right.
I LOVE THIS! In 2005 I visited Mardin, Sanliurfa, etc... took a 2 hour taxi ride to Diyarbakir!!! THERE WAS AN AMERICAN IN THE TAXI... we were stopped by police every few miles! No problem, just curiosity... We stopped to visit nomadic Kurds, friends of the driver... I HAD TEA with them! THEN, a 22 hour bus ride back to Izmir! Long story (and a good one!), but a wonderful ride! I love Turkey!
Your video was hilarious. I was laughing the whole time as I had a similar experience working a year in Trabzon in hopes for a novel and authentic experience of the country. I was similarly extremely elated to arrive back to Istanbul.
I found this channel then I directly love it.. OMG.. you sharing many things about Turkey.. I LOVED IT !! , keep going anyway .. I am from Indonesia and also love Turkey so muchhhhhhhhh ^^
2:55 This is correct, but the reason why it's mandatory, is because there are too few doctors, police officers, teachers etc. in those regions there. Even the people there are often moving permanently towards West Turkey. Btw, I love how you say and keep saying Ağrı.
I am not surprised at all when you said you couldn't live in Agri. Most people from Izmir (or generally anywhere from the west of Ankara) would have similar experience as you if they moved to Agri.
I’m from İzmir and moved to Eskişehir a month ago with my sis (she started studying at uni here) I love Eskişehir (so much better than the small village I live in İzmir) but this video made me miss İzmir as a local, thank you for sharing your experience. West and east have such different culture in Turkey, I’d be shocked too, despite that I’m Turkish. I can’t imagine how you dealt with that.
I'm from Ağrı and you are soooooooooo much right. Because of my mom's family we went to the Ağrı for 2 months i lived in there. when i turned the Ankara again i kissed the ground. (Sorry for my bad english)
Biz de o yılda ağrı Doğubayazıtın bir köyünde yaşadık bakın merkez bile demiyorum ona rağmen migros vardı ve kocamandı da yani süpermarket yok demiş de herşey vardı
Holly molly!! YOU ARE HILARIOUS! 😂😂😂 I’m literally laughing to death! I’m so sorry for you to move to Agri! I felt the same when I visited Agri for the first time and that was the last... 😅The way you talk just took my an hour to watch your videos! You’re awesome and make the most of your time in 🇹🇷 that I’m sure you will. Keep traveling but remember to search where you go before! 😂
i really enjoy your videos, chelsea. and i need to say something: you are constantly out of breath and i think it's because you don't breath right. breathing excercises could help :)
Oh my gosh I can believe you live in ağrı! I’m an iranian who lives in İstanbul but a few months ago that I was in Iran we decided to take a road trip to turkey and when we crossed the border we got to ağrı in two hours and spent the night there it was such a tiny city but had really nice people. And not hate but what does Iran have to do with terrorist attack? Our country is not like Iraq at all...🧐😣
Don't feel bad about what you say, Chelsea, I also have a culture shock when I went to the eastern cities of Turkey. I am Turkish from İzmir. I totally understand you. It is pretty normal. I loved your videos. You are so sweet. Good luck. ;)
İzmir and Ağrı seem to represent the two most different Turkish cultures. Ağrı is generally a more religious, difficult to reach and small city. When we talk about from Izmir, Turkey is one of the most modern cities. Its people have adopted the modern western culture. It can be considered a mega city due to its population and you can easily find alcohol :)
I'm sorry for what happened at the hospital to you. People from Izmir or Istanbul are experiencing same culture shock too, one country two different worlds
After I had watched the “Turkish people are wrong about“ video, I watched this. You said that Turkish people thought “if you do not dry your hair, not wear slippers or socks at home, do drink cold water, and do sleep while your window open, you will get sick”. Maybe you understood after living in Ağrı why they tell so 😂 and in the previous video you said you never got sick, but in this, you said you had been sick for 3 months 😂😂 giiiiirllllll 😜
I can totally relate to that (especially the part about how much people gossip here) since moving to Sivas after spending some time in Istanbul. Even my Turkish friends questioned my move.
Gossip is always more in small towns where ever you go in the world cuz small number of people who have the same culture live together for along time. My family lived in Igdir for government duty for 3 years back in 1987 when i was a child. I had the best time in my life! You were just 2 hours away from Igdir, you would be shocked how beautiful it is if you had chance to see. Mountain Agri is stunning btw! Igdirlilara Selam

Chelsea i am from Istanbul.I lived in Ağrı for 1 year(2014-2015)because I won the university. I understand you so well that I had a hard time with culture shock and foods.🙈
I'm from İzmir and I work as a teacher in Van which is a city 2 hours away from Ağrı, and I really really miss İzmir.. I feel you.. It's 2019 now and nothing changed at all! I feel like trapped in here.. It sucks!
Nehir Karakaya kürtce mi konusuyorlar seninle 😂 I don‘t really get what‘s the problem, of course it‘s hard to live away from your home and your family but you can use the possibility to see eastern Anatolia , e.g by learning Kurdish, seeing historical sights and so on ...
Im from izmir but we moved to ağrı. I live in ağrı dor three years. Ağrı is more developed. Cafes airports hospitals opened. No matter how advanced it is, its people never change. Im so bored. I dont like people live in ağrı. I want to tell you. I understand you very well and I love you 💗
I really enjoyed listening your story. As a frequent flyer, I also had some good times and bad times but your experience is just extraordinary even for us.. :) hope you come back again oneday.
Ahaha! I had to move from Izmir to Agri after graduating from the medical school. Those experiences couldn’t be explained better than this. Hilarious 😆
Just a correction. It's not only mandatory for those wishing to be a government doctor but all nurses, doctors, thus all HCPs and teachers have a mandatory service time due to their subsidized education to serve in less desired places/regions. This way country maintains a health and education system which is equal everywhere in the country (well in theory).

Funny story ! You know actually Agri means 'Pain' in Turkish :)
My mother is a doctor too.
They are not 'freedom fighters'.
j t terrorism in east south of turkey started before erdogan. Ofc he has an affect since he is the president but it’s been there for a long long time
Reis albüm ne zaman geliyo
I love Turkish people and culture.
you are a very good man. This is the first thought that came to my mind...
You constantly got sick because the food water everything was foreign to you.I'm going to follow you and hope to keep incontact with you😄
ben istanbuldan ağrıya gitsem kesinlikle o kültür sokunu yaşardim :) ama hala ağrılıları kırmamak icin çabalaması gercekten harika :)
3:30 Actually you do not decide where you want to live ad work. Goverment says "At that city, at that hospital we need this expert. You will go there or you can resign"
6:30 Actually it is not about being a foreigner.
Fun fact: Kardashians roots are coming from Erzurum which is a very close city to Ağrı.

Eastern people did not asked you to visit their cities. If you feel bad please do not go there.
