He is 100% right , I had a 2000 RM 125 in 1999. That year or the year before Suzuki went up from a 36 to a 38 and my friend had a 1998 with the 36 and his had a lot more much needed bottom end. The bigger carbs are supposed to make more mid top but the the other was WAY better. Not sure how it compares to the lectron but I can say his info is correct

Question. How come it always seems like there’s a delay between what one person Is saying and what the other person is hearing? Is there latency in your setup or something?

I'm a two stroke tuner from the 90s, and I can explain the reason for the carb size difference between 125 and 250. It all comes down to engine RPM, The 125 simply Revs higher. Smaller carburetor bore will improve fuel atomization and throttle response at all RPM settings, but larger carburetor bores allow better high RPM horsepower. The reason your 125 ran better with a smaller carburetor was for those reasons.

Great interview, love hearing Stanks tech knowledge and setup, it’s cool to hear someone who knows his bike setup, setup and performance tricks from real world racing, even more respect he can work on them himself, something I think should be a bigger focus of parents with their kids today, when I got my first 2 stroke, my dad was against it, I paid for it, he picked it up while was at school, I was 6 or 7 can’t remember, when I got home I had to unload it from the Ute. I will never forget how stoked I was until my dad said, right now ya got, if ya break it or it breaks down you better be able to fix it, cause no one else will. Initially it took the elation away. But was probably the best dirt bike lesson I ever got.
Keep mixin gas and hauling ass Stankdawg, you’re the best 🤘🥇

I raced in the mid to late 90’s on a yz125. We switched to a PWK, ground our own needles and ran the boyesen reed block. With the rad valve the inlet is round and makes it easy to move the carb either closer or further away from the crank case. Doing that with either a PC or gold series pipe or even stock pipe and moving the timing around you can change the power characteristics a lot. I ran an 89 for years so we did everything we could to make it competitive with the newer KX and CR.

I agree the lectron isn’t as good in clean crispyness. But for ease of use it’s sweet. I am more than capable of jetting and have had it dialed. I’ve ran both can enjoy both. But if I was pushing 100% dialed jetting I’d go Keihin. I only replaced my Mikuni with a Lectron this time is the slide was worn to crap after 20 hours. And I like to not carry jets.

Preach! My first BMX bike (MCS Mini) was a handmedown out of a pig pen. My dad had me clean it with a toothbrush and chrome polish, rebuild the bottom bracket, and wheels. A year later I was 2nd in the state in my age bracket. That trend continued through 85cc and it was second nature by the time I moved up and eventually translated to trucks and my own home. Work on your own shit! It makes you appreciate it more, respect it more, and you become more in tune with the bike to sharpen your setup.
And when times are tough, you’ll be able to put dinner on the table by turning wrenches.
More respect for the guys who can repair their rides, than the ones that can pay me to fix it for them.
    Thank you as always

When i moved up to 125cc and 250cc i burnt a clutch out every 5 to 8 days on that cr125. We had clutch kits in metal coffee cans soaking in red line brand oil that looked was a solid yellow color. Plates stacked up in correct order and new heavy springs ready for the old clutch to be pulled out and a new one shoved right in that Hinson basket

So true man - I have a new TM Racing EN300ES 2t and it comes with a Keihin PWK 38 carb that is perfectly jetted out of the box...also adding a STIC Metering Bloc to your Keihin carb makes the thing rip even more - but add the STIC - JD Jetting Kit to your Keihin & STIC. :) You won't believe the difference, especially power on the top-end RPM'S,but also for bottom-end power when placed on a 125.
These 2t's are so much fun, but I'm going to try something new for a new 4t soon, and go with a 2022+ Honda CRF450RX for fun factor - my 300 2t with all of the engine work has the same (maybe a little more) than the Honda 450RX stock, so I welcome the power, and can't wait to build the engine...just wish I was a little more wealthy to afford all of this at one time, but I am surely thankful for what I have right now!!! 💪 👍 👌
Everyone be safe and God bless! TRY a Kehin with STIC and JD Jetting for STIC - you WILL be pleasantly surprised!!! Just watch the Dirt N Iron video of the YZ125X with Kehin & STIC Metering Bloc! 🤘

Maintenance is key for 125 2strokes. See guys buying expensive parts but have and old spark plug (plus wrong heat level)and don't re-jet the carb for track and weather conditions. Too many do not properly oil the air filter. Too much oil, done not properly clean or dry before applying oil....buy expensive piston but fail to properly maintain the power valve...

His carb was good that day at that elevation at that track but constantly messing with jets it’s hard to get it to run the same at every track a lectron is almost fuel injection I have changed 5000 feet of elevation with them with zero issues and similar power the entire time.

coming from the automotive world , back into dirt bikes as an adult , id agree with the throttle body swap because of velocity . with velocity there's density , with density and velocity comes a cooler intake charge air temperature, which helps pack more oxygen into the same space , making more power . i build a lot of turbo cars , and often a smaller diameter intake plenum and or intercooler piping makes more power . you want a large exhaust to relieve backpressure but bigger on the intake side doesn't translate to more power. people forget these are air pumps. not fuel pumps . and the more air afforded , and fuel to match that increase in air . you make more power .

Lectron is great for not racing, it's no maintenance no bullshit, gas it up and go.. otherwise you need a jet set to really get it where you want. Otherwise you'd see them everywhere in karting and you don't. Because it's not needed and you want to be able to getting running the way you want where you want especially depending on gearing and track layout and shit.

Bigger carb has less of a pulse signal better on high rpms but you lose low end the Keihin is a stubier carb and the valve is closer to the Reed block and you get a better throttle response.you can get a big carb to work but got to mess with it.alot of the bikes and sleds I've done bigger carb take a few thousand of the Reed area of cyl then get a few spacers and get the response you want.also get a few copper caskets and can shim the pipe in or out.smaller shim better top end further the better the bottom

lectron carbs are great the way they ship it to you done. but those lectrons were designed back in 1975 and were revolutionary for the time. but there have been 46 years of development that has gone into stock carbs. a stock carb set right will be just as or even better than a lectron. but that setup is critical.
