This takes me way back to like September 1970... back to school dance (6th grade). First slow dance (not on this list) "I'll Be There" by the Jackson 5. I even remember the girl I danced with.

Motown's classic years really were created from a unique recipe that had never been used before. Berry Gordy wanted to make the lush expansive records that artists such as Nat King Cole and Ella Fitzgerald were making at large studios in Los Angeles and New York. However so many artists and musicians at Motown were from the South. They provided an infusion of Blues, Gospel, Jazz and Soul that was the musical equivalent of letting a genie out of a bottle. No other label (including Motown itself in later decades) was able to duplicate the magic on these early days in Detroit.

@@VillaVybes Nah, lots of Motown men wore them back in the day, before Afros made them impractical. Depends on what year you're looking back on. Suits & skinny ties used to be worn on stage too in the 60s before the hippie movement & so called cultural revolution hit bit time & clothes all changed to the prairie look & dashiki & such. . In fact there's pics of Bee Gees & whom were dubbed Blue eyed soul brothers in fedoras as well. So, not so out of place really.
