Hi son. The finished concrete should be “above” the soil line and should be beveled so that water flows away from the post. The soil you put back over the concrete allow water to sit against the post and promotes rot. But hey, “That’s how ya learn!”
Great advice pops, I was thinking the same thing. Probably not worth pouring a second go on top and just save it for the future posts. Maybe digging out and putting gravel around the posts with low foundation would be helpful?
I reckon you could clean off the top and box around it somehow and top with concrete repair. You'd have to check label to see what depth it goes to. I used a Sika normal (not rapid) which take a light wash of the same as a primer. Maybe you could mix in small (5mm or so) stone to give it more strength. Must be mixed with drill powered mixer.
Also, recommend putting a few inches of gravel or rocks at the bottom of your holes before putting the post and Quikcrete in. That way, water won't pool up around the post bottom and rot it out.
I’d call that a job well done. Now you don’t have to worry about the fence falling on your cars when you leave. That jack trick was super cool! I will remember that next time I have to dig a fence post out. 👍
What is in the orange conduit? It's barely below ground level. We use 240V mains electric in Australia. Wouldn't want to put my spade through it. Great rhino digger by the way.
thanks Brian! The conduit was empty! I think they buried it to send power to my little garden shed, no wire inside. ill have to chase it down and see where it goes one day
Good job and save you a whole lot of money, I am a 65 🇬🇧 with back problems and still like to try and do jobs but I would say my recovery period is a little longer. Where about in the States are you if you don’t mind me asking?
@@DayOffDIY thanks for the reply, yes my wife and myself did a drive and stay all along that west coast . Did Death Valley LA Sacramento San Francisco etc in the mid 1980s fantastic holiday and the pound dollar exchange was pretty good back then. I liked small town USA better.
Great job as usual! I swear I couls watch you watch paint dry lol Because your narration, and chill tone is such a breath of fresh air form all the "HEY GUYS" crowd on youtube. Keep up the good work. Though I have a question... if you are going to do this full time... How are you going to have a day off for your DIY? lol
Thanks so much 😊Appreciate the kind works Attila, thats what Im goin for. LOL its technically my off season from the fire service so im goin all in on youtube. Ideally id like the channel to grow enough to support me to where I dont have to go back to my normal schedule in the fire service, so technically every day is a day off for me right now lol
Good job my man, by the way I was going to buy one of those old-time jacks and I don't have to anymore. I got a big job coming up and that Jack trick is going to be perfect. By the way you said you just got through chopping it up with your neighbor what does that mean? Duran the handyman Dallas Texas
time, money, and it was a lot of work! I have probably 20+ fence posts to do on my property, this section came down from a winter storm and was blocking the driveway
It was painful to do too. I’ll happily admit, I was learning as I went on this job. Never pulled a post before! I’ll be sure to check out your content on ot
the new pressure treated ones i installed? I shouldve added more concrete so they dont touch mineral soil but they should last for much longer than 2 years

That was actually hard to watch. No offense. Fellow fence guy here. You're punishing yourself my man. Check out my tutorial on the same process

No eye protection when sawing or weedeating - have more respect for your eyes! You've only got two for life.
Those old post you replaced they will rot in 2 years.
