I'm the only one who thinks Marcolin, Lowe and Levens are all great singers, even if so different in voice and style.
You're not the only one. Each brought something to the band that the others couldn't. Not one of them was a bad singer but each one was unique.

No-one did this song like Johan, it's kind of his signature song. Rob and Messiah came really close. Mats, unfortunately, doesn't. He's a decent, arguably even very good, metal vocalist who would grace so many other bands, but in Candlemass... Something in his vocal delivery is lacking, or, on the contrary, too much, I don't know what it is, can't explain it, but it just doesn't work for me. Maybe Mats doesn't evoke the right "atmosphere"? However, he can't make me stop missing Rob, but I guess he'd be much better if Leif would write new songs with/for him.
I don't mean to be disrespectful, of course. I'm fully aware that Mats is a waaay better singer as I (and most others) could ever be!
Ian Cavon Mays's voice is better in the higher vocal registers, whereas Rob and Messiah and Rob's vocals are more in the mid to lower registers.

Sounds like he just wasn't cut out to sing for this band. I know they fired one of these guys because their live performances were not up to par. It was probably this guy.
This is Mats level, it was Rob Lowe who was fired. Rob had an amazing voice but he never memorized the lyrics
i dont get why everyones all about mats at all. he sounds like every christian rock singer ever. theres no mistaking messiah, not just his vocals, but his enthusiasm and charisma
