- Well this is one of the stranger pickup set requests we've had ....
In this video, Radioshop's Paul Best shows what happened when Sal in San Francisco requested a Radioshop PAF set with Burnt Chrome Humbucker Covers!
Who are we deny a guitarist of their new desired look for their Les Paul?! Happy to oblige, we went, ahem 'medieval' on some covers we had lying around to nail this look for Sal. We hope he loves them!

We hope enjoy the video and pick up some tips on how to go about this for your guitar. Remember though, if trying this at home, please take care - guitarists need fingers intact!
Thanks for the effort you put into this. I too need some burnt covers. I did find that some covers with chrome plating will blister. I believe it was because the surface wasn't perfectly clean prior to plating. Or it may be due to using a larger torch and heating it too fast.
I'll let you know as I learn more.
Mike...Warp Core Pickups.
There is a metal treatment called " jet fuel " its a special titanium compound plasma spray . Used on bicycle parts , car rims etc
Sal is a great guy
Has anyone tried to burn a chrome bridge to match the burnt chrome pickups?
Hello Paul. What happens if you repolish those burned covers? Ge tshiny again or just fades that burned effect off? Cheers!
To be honest, Obi Wan - I haven't tried it. I'd imagine you'd need to do some sanding back to get it off. Quite likely to go through the coating then
@@RadioshopPickups Well, there you have an idea to try, but no sanding, for "The Radioshop Multifoil Covers" haha. Cheers!
Just stumbled across you, like the vids I've seen! Bernzomatic makes a butane pencils torch with a very condensed flame. Maybe more control? More detail?? Great job friend!
I heard to heat from the back for best effect? Don't know but plan 2 try soon.
ESP has similar covers on their display models. The top woods are exotic, with 'river' or 'lava' flow epoxy in between. They would also stain certain parts of the wood. It is starting to make sense now.
