      You are lucky you, we can’t get the Lutron Caseta in the UK as our voltage is different. Unfortunately it looks like Lutron have no plans to release it for the UK market, they would rather release the RA2.

    I use Lutron for my smart and non-smart lighting, also. They are so reliable! They work every time and all the time. I use regular motion sensors for hallways and the basement laundry room and Caseta for the rest. I can’t wait to get the Serena shades like you did.

    As an electrician these just provide so much utility without having to rewire. You don’t even have to have a bridge to do some functions such as creating another 3way or a just a convenient remote

    You might want to start using WAGO wire nuts. They are much smaller, super easy to install, do not come apart and no need for electrical tape. They have a newer transparent version that is even smaller and super easy, even for a DIYer.
    Because of their smaller size, it is easier to tuck them into the outlet box.
    Have been around for years. Designed and manufactured in Germany.

    Really nice setup. I recently bought a basic Lutron inline dimmer for my 25 year old lava lamp. Because of it's age, it had started to overheat, so putting it on a dimmer to control the heat has made it work like it was brand new again. Lava lamps are the one type of lighting I still consider using incandescent lights for because they require the heat to work. Thankfully, I'm only dealing with 40w, or 25w bulbs depending on the size of the lamp.

  • @theacme1000
    @theacme1000 4 года назад +11

    Watching this confirms Lutron Caseta is NOT the way to go.
    Z-wave switches (like the Homeseer) with multi-tap scene control allow much more versatility. You can set 12 scenes per switch and using the LEDs on the switch (7 on the dimmers) you can set status indicators or warning signals for what's happening in other parts of the house . I also prefer being able to install a companion switch with 3 or 4 way wired circuits instead of a battery operated remote. And, the companion switches offer all the same scene control and dimming capabilities of the master switch on that circuit. Oh, and at a lower cost. Yes, most of the z-wave switches require a neutral but most newer house have one in every box anyway. If they don't, go for the Inovelli z-wave switches with almost identical features as Homeseer.
    Ceiling fans, Homeseer has that covered if fan and light are wired separately. Inovelli has it covered if they are wired together.
    And, z-wave has a lot of different types of connectable devices which won't require an additional hub.
    My 2 cents!

    21:49 yeah I was wondering that earlier in the video like why you paired a pico dimmer remote with a non-dimmable in-wall switch 🤔 like yeah I guess it would still work but there is a reason why Lutron sells on/off pico remotes as well lol
    Like if you have guests over and next thing you know they’re like “wow you’re light switches are broken!” after you put it in all that hard work to set everything up haha

    I was curious, in this video at 7:50, are you connecting the hot and neutral wires together? I may be misunderstanding but if so that seems like a potential hazard and best case would throw the breaker-worst case much worse (I’m no electrician).

    To everyone trying the cassetta wireless I would instead offer you the radio ra2 from Lutron, it has over 100 features the cassetta doesn’t have. The Ra2 can inter-grate your alarm, audio, a/c and more but the difference is the more brands and devices available than the cassetta, also the programming is complex to let you dimmer or switches do more than the average and the style of the dimmer from the Ra2 I find more presentable

    I'm curious if you know of a product that would be compatible with what I am attempting to do to the kitchen in my new home. The build is just kicking off so I have time. I need a smart lighting setup for my kitchen (maybe even the house). I'm looking for lighting that would come in 3 settings, off, on (recessed lighting, maybe some accent lighting), and sleep -- where sleep will be blue accent lighting over the drop ceiling that would be located over the kitchen island. Since this will be a large kitchen with access coming from the garage as well, it would need to be a 3 way style system where it could be controlled from 2 different points. Ideally it could be controlled from either switch or a tablet. Any ideas?

    How to connect to multiple smart lights which are connected to one switch? I have 8 lights in living and kitchen area which are wire connected to only 1 switch. How do I connect (pair) all the smart lights to my app? Is there any work around it?

      Help me understand a bit more. Are you using just one Smart Switch or do you have 8 Smart Light bulbs?

  • @paulmardis1512
    @paulmardis1512 3 года назад

    Hey Tech, I eviewed your video and during your 3-way demonstration I believe you meant the RED wire should connect to the Load wire and the Black to the Hot/Line wire. Otherwise the switch would not work as noted on page 16-17 of Lutron Advanced installation PDF file and noted below from page 17 diagram.
    Switch may be installed in either location.
    Note: The red wire must be connected to the load and the black wire must be connected to Line/Hot. The product will not work if the wires are reversed.
    Good Luck

    can these switches be replace ones that control an outlet that is for lamps, led strips or Christmas lights?
    can these plugin lamp dimmers work on anything else that needs to be plugged in besides just a lamp? like decorations? fans ? modems ? things I want to be able to turn on and off ?

    • @TechWithBrett
      @TechWithBrett  3 года назад +1

      It is not recommended to use a Caseta Dimmer switch on a switch that is connected to a receptacle.
      The plug in dimmers actually have an option to turn it into a on/switch vs a dimmer switch. Just hold down on/off for 6 seconds to change its mode.

      @@TechWithBrett thats awesome, great to know!! what about just a lutron caseta switch (not the dimmer) to turn on and off outdoor outlets that are used for landscape lighting and Christmas lights ?

      @@TechWithBrett I looked through the Caseta documentation and I did not find anything advising against using a Caseta Switch (not dimmer) to turn on and off an outlet. My plan is to do that for outdoor outlets I have landscape lighting hooked to. Thoughts ?

      @@chriscarr1791 I haven't seen anything about that standard switch not working with receptacles so I think you should be good as long as you don't have anything that would overpower a receptacle.

      @@TechWithBrett Thats whats i was thinking. Theyre only going to be 12 or 24v landscape lights. And outside is safe enough noone is probably going to plug in a heater lol Curious any smart landscape light suggestions ? Looking to do up the whole front and rear yard this year. but trying to find any that can handle a Canadian winter.

    • @rangerrecon

      Maual control of the lights (using the switches) will work w/o the internet. Obviously, Siri, Google, and Alexa wouldn't be able to since they are cloud-based.

      When watching smart home tech videos, if the content creator doesn’t mute their wake words, I automatically “thumbs down”. It’s the least that should be done when editing your videos. Instead of probably setting of your watchers devices. That’s just lazy IMO.

    Great video. I swapped my entire downstairs area with Lutron Caseta switches a few weeks ago and love it. The only thing is that it was expensive being $1000 in on just switches 😳

      A thousand in switches? I’ve added Hue color lights and light strips with Alexa voice control throughout most of my house, along with some smart switches in places where Hue won’t work for me, and haven’t spent nearly that much.

    I have a upstairs hallway light single pole but I would like to put in a remote on the other end of the hallway and just want to use a pico remote, can that be done?

    • @GreeniusGenius
      @GreeniusGenius 2 года назад

      Yes of course, you would just need to pair the Pico remote to the main switch.
      This is fine because in the 2 way setup, you would just be wiring circuit the 2nd switch to be permanently closed, so it is effectively the same difference as far as the main switch is concerned.

    Were the kitchen bulbs special Dimming LED bulbs or they have to be smart bulbs?

    • @PellySideCustoms
      @PellySideCustoms 11 месяцев назад

      The switches are alternatives to smart bulbs. As long as you get bulbs that are compatible which is as simple as them being LED and dimmable. The caseta switches will work and using the hub you can turn them on and off with the app.

      It is not. They only connect to their specific bridge.
