My take on Shubby is that she characterizes the primordial material out of which all life spawned, in which case she is literally the mother of all living creatures. I like to think "the woods" (this is purely my own idea) refer to the dark columns of Nebulae dust in which her squirming mass floats, and that bits of her mass routinely break off and float in all directions until they collide with some planetoid and begin the process of evolving into creatures fit to live on that planet. This fits with the Lovecraftian theme that it is a matter of horror that we are related to lesser life forms. In this sense, not just humans, but EVERY living creature throughout space and time are children of the same mother.
Shub-Niggurath has always been one of my favorite Old Ones, for what she (it?) represents: the insignificance of life. We humans like to believe we are born for a reason, with purpose or at least love and intention. Someone wants us here, and that gives us hope. Shub-Niggurath turns that on it's head. She spawns randomly, discarding her young as she would her last bowel movement. She's not even aware they are born. She is the uncaring universe, you are it's child. Too insignificant to even be unwanted. You're just... generated spontaneously, and will probably be absorbed back again without Shub-Niggurath ever knowing you were there. She, along with Azathoth, is the essence of cosmic, nihilistic dread.

We need a GOOD movie with this mythos as the focus.
Hollywood studios interference would screw it up
Color out of space with nic cage is an example of a well done lovecraft film. The dudes in charge actually care about lovecrafts work
@@thesenate4815 I saw it on dvd and I miss the opportunity to get it
@@dreademperor2094 if you have vpn and live in a country with little enforcement, the pirates life for you
@@thesenate4815 what does that have to do with what I said?
I wonder if it’s possible for you to explore the Hyborian Age of Robert E. Howard? One of the other Weird Tales authors that intrigued me.
That would be pretty cool
My favorite fictional monster 👴🏻
👴
Shubby was the final boss I quake 1 should do a video or series based o the first quake , it's mostly based on lovecraft in it's own way.
for me it´s the third or fourth most powerfull deity in Lovecraftian lore, only surpassed by Yog Sothoth and Azathoth, Nyarlathotep may be on the same level as her or slighly above or under her status, and all of them are very above the more known Cthulhu god himself.
I love watching the captions try and keep up with these names
Who’s here because of the anime OVERLOAD, when ainz summoned them to slaughter an entire army?
I'm here bc of South Park
Is that The Hound I hear in the background?
Having Graham Plowman's stuff as the background music to this is brilliant.
I love lovecraft lore but knowing how raciest he was, it really is reflected in the name of this creature.
Is it? Or are YOU low key a racist yourself?
I would indeed like a video to explain the Migo. as I recall, Lovecraft described them as space crabmen of some sort, and they also happened to be the Yeti, or abominable snowmen.
Now that is an interesting take on the Yeti, that i want to hear about.
Do you think you'll ever have a go at the Hounds of Tindalos?
Maxin Paul Carroll I believe I’ve slain several of them, but I can’t quite remember.
Kharn Wait... they have these things in the Eye of Terror? Why am I not surprised.
Zack Flowers Any form of abomination that you could possibly imagine, I have defeated on the battlefield.
The true cosmic horror is how deep this lore goes and how many books I'll have to read to catch up.
That is the funnest name for a god ever! 🤣
After playing south park fractured but whole, i can never unsee that name EVER
Interesting vid, I do enjoy the Cthulhu mythology & so dose my other half 👍😎
Oh this is a sweet channel. Finally RUclips recommends great things.
A Nigguh What?!?
There are even more gods in the extended mythos please make a cover on it as well T-T
I can see why John Romero decided to use her for Quake
I came for your voice it's so smoothing &sexy to listen to,keep up the good work you're doing, I'm learning a lot.
this is the thing that killed 70,000 and more the guy in overlord summoned
no, her children did that.
This thing killed me in South Park: the Fractured Butthole
This is so cool because I love these books and the collections of stories by lovecraft now it’s the mythical creatures guide of all the cool creatures in the books fucking awesome especially for such a big horror fan like myself
"I ain't afraid of no quake. "
Duke Nukem, 1996
hehe you gotta telefrag her to beat the game 🧀
first and last time i ever heard of this thing, was in overlord anime when Ainz summoned the dark young to his service..
