Summerville Steam 2023: It's Been A Long Time Coming!

- In 2021, the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum was forced to indefinitely curtail their excursions into Northwest Georgia due to a bridge over Chattanooga Creek being condemned by a Norfolk Southern bridge inspector.
After roughly two years, an agreement was reached for the East Chattanooga Belt Railway (a TVRM subsidiary) to lease trackage from 23rd Street to approximately 100 feet south of the bridge (including the bridge) from Norfolk Southern, allowing a TVRM track crew to make necessary repairs to it. Following repairs and testing, the first passenger train since April of 2021 crossed Chattanooga Creek on the former Central of Georgia Railway on September 16, 2023.
In this video, filmed over the course of three days by myself and my wife, we get the opportunity to chase the world famous Southern No. 4501 from Chattanooga. Due to then ongoing issues away from work (and a lack of time off from work), we were only able to shoot the train as far south as the Chickamauga Battlefield on the southbound run, and from Rock Spring north on the return trip, using a mixture of a camcorder, cell phones and our drone.
Many of the cell phone shots were done by my wife while I was actually operating the locomotive.

Back in September I was watching a video a train going down the Belt Line and thought about how ever since I was a kid I had always wanted to take a train that went that way but there was no option except the dinner train which I had no interest in. Rides to the Choo-Choo are a thing of the past, the TAG line to Kensington is in disrepair, and Chickamauga and Summerville were uncertain. As a result I had thought about taking a ride on one to Copperhill.
Within a few minutes of my thinking about how fun it would be to go down the belt line I found out that rides to Summerville and Chickamauga were back.
On October 14 I took the steam train to Summerville. I don't know the last time I enjoyed something that much. I am hoping to do it again sometime
