When the frame of the top is exposed. I like taking a die grinder with a 3m brown disc and running your hands in the left driver shoulder area and right passenger shoulder area and feel for exposed rivets along with sharp edges. Grind them down and paint them. Then replace the top. I have done many s2000 tops and also have a 1000+ whp s2k. Please stop listening to tik tok and youtube mechanics that have no fucking idea about what they are talking about
The top tears because the straps wear out, but the top keeps getting used. Replacing the straps is easy, Modifry sells them. Helping the top retract also goes a long way. When you put down the top, help it by pushing on the manual handle, and then pushing back the bar the straps pull. This takes all the stress off the straps and ensures the top folds correctly.
You are incorrect. The soft top tears because of sharp edges on the top frame along with exposed rivets. I suggest you read the TSB honda made on this issue and stop spreading disinformation please.
@@krisklukowicz1900 Nah, you're wrong, I've also owned this car for 10 years and been through 3 tops. Stretched straps don't let the top go down properly which stresses the top more than burrs that never really touch the top. I'd appreciate it if you could get your brain to work.
Great video. Are you gonna change out your roll hoops? Would like to buy them lol. Mine are all cut up ans Is separated very annoying to glue them every year. Should I just buy them used from ebay ?

I just bought a Berlina Black AP1 that needs a lot of love. I’m probably going to replace the soft top with a hardtop.
Nice video! Looking to tackle this on my AP1 later this spring
thank you!
Feel free to ask any questions if you need any help. I highly recommend a friend giving you an extra hand when putting on the new top!
