    I think you should make a video highlighting things to look for and avoid when buying a used S2000, clearly you will do an excellent job because you are so detailed.

      front end frame/suspension damage especially in the AP1s because of the stiffer suspension compared to the Ap2. don't buy one with mods, unless you get it for a good price and be prepared to spend a good chunk of change replacing parts... be wary of low compression and inspect retainers on AP1s for cracks. AP2s have thinker retainers and wouldn't hurt to replace the springs with a little heavier set to reduce your chance of valve float at high Rs.

    I never understood people that put a hardtop on an s2000. Unless you regularly track or daily the car in bad weather, it defeats the purpose of having a roadster. However, your case is different in that you have two s2k's. Love the hardtop. It also looks damn amazing. I'm a big fan of your channel. Keep the content rollin'!

      Thanks Soren. I will say this, I bought my NA Miata in 2005, so I have had convertibles for the past 12 years. Like most things in life, the novelty does wear off. It's not a big deal for me to do without top down anymore, so all of my convertibles are wearing hardtops at this point lol. Plus, I can still just take the hardtop off if the mood strikes.

    One of the main reasons I bought the S2000 is because it’s an awesome convertible. Why would I want to eliminate one of it’s best features?

    • @TheSlipAngle
      @TheSlipAngle  6 лет назад +17

      It's all personal preference. I've had convertibles since 2005, so the top down thing doesn't excite me that much anymore. The S2000 is too heavy for a N/A 2.0 / 2.2 and removing the power top assembly saves substantial weight. So for me, it's an easy decision. Plus the hardtop still comes off if I want to drive with the top down. If you like the power soft top, then don't remove it. Nothing wrong either way.

    • @anthonyc8157
      @anthonyc8157 6 лет назад

      was thinking the same. my 02 has the glass back soft top and I love it. spend 4k and have to lug the top around instead of just hitting a switch? I rarely like to take it out if its not top down weather.

    • @TheSlipAngle
      @TheSlipAngle  7 лет назад +6

      Two things, make sure you pay attention to the orientation of running the seat belts through the roll hoops and plastics before bolting them back in. If you mess that up, you have to remove all of the plastics again. Second, by removing the motors and brackets, you lose a threaded receiver in the softop motor bracket for the hardtop brackets. However, since you are still passing the bolt through metal of the chassis, I just added a nut onto the back of it to snug that one hole to the body of the car.

      @TheSlipAngle  6 лет назад

      You're welcome. It mounts at the windshield where the factory soft top brackets mount as well as on the side behind the seats. I did an install video a while back: ruclips.net/user/edit?o=U&video_id=ybrbHEhWn-w

    Hey Quinn. I’m planning on removing my soft top and replacing it with a carbon top. My question is, if I keep my factory seats, will it still take 8hrs to complete? I noticed you probably didn’t need to remove the plastic hoops and glove to remove the top. It didn’t seem to be in the way of anything.

    • @TheSlipAngle

      Thanks Brad. The seats are pretty good for a daily. The bolsters are more aggressive and are a little more work to get in and out of. The head rests on these are also pretty stiff so if you like to rest your head back that might be an issue as well.

    • @TheSlipAngle
      @TheSlipAngle  6 лет назад

      Oh yes, you are correct. You have to remove the side plates from the top assembly and bolt them to the car. You will also have to use a bolt and a nut to help hold those plates back to the body again because they originally threaded into the top assembly. They are body colored pieces if I remember correctly.

    Nice weight reduction measure. Are you thinking about a roll bar, or do you pass the broomstick test in the recaros ?

    • @TheSlipAngle
      @TheSlipAngle  7 лет назад

      I can pass the broomstick test. If the S2000 wasn't so damn heavy I would consider a roll bar because I like the additional safety and chassis rigidity benefits of them but any of the weight saving measures I have implemented so far would pretty much be diminished with the addition of a roll bar.

    • @msabbagh4518
      @msabbagh4518 7 лет назад

      Awesome. Maybe I need to try those seats and see if I pass. I hate the idea of cutting into the car, but want to take it out to some bigger tracks. Also very curious about how much noise the hardtop produces and the measures you take to improve it. You pretty happy with the quality of the forbidden top?

    don't know if the real Mugen hardtop has that big gap on the rear deck trunk area between the top and the painted surface of the car but I can't stand that when I see that Gap it would drive me crazy and that's one of the reasons that I'm leaning towards OEM

    • @TheSlipAngle
      @TheSlipAngle  7 лет назад

      I've seen big gaps there on cheaper tops, but I think this top's gap is pretty flush. Maybe it just looks bigger in the video, but in person it's pretty good.

    Do you know if there's a way to disable the soft function if you're just putting a hard top on rather than removing the soft top altogether, I know there's a fuse you can pull to allow it to go up and down while the car is moving. I wonder if there's a fuse you can pull that disables the retraction button?

    • @TheSlipAngle

    Did the hardtop come with a bracket where I could use the factory clip to latch the front without having to take it off and install to the hardtop? I’m not planning to remove my softtop by just adding the hardtop and if I decide to use the softtop, I only need to remove the hardtop and still be able to use the softtop and latch if necessary. Please advise if a separate latch is needed for the hardtop? I’m looking at the forbidden mugen style top

    • @TheSlipAngle
