Man just speedran 41 German states in just 8 minutes? Impressive.
Dude, he obviously talked about like 13.
41 german states any% speedrun 8:02 World Record
The good old days...
yeah
@@TMoritz11damn... He was soooo close to sub 8 minutes....
1. Maybe do Italy or the Balkans next
2. Anhalt looked like Austria but smaller when it fully united
I knew it wasn't only me who saw that!
Thats why we love Anhalt
I also thought that it looked like austria
Fun fact: for about a year, the Kingdom of Saxony was still not apart of the North German Confederation due to fears of what happened to Hannover, but then it would join in 1867.
The Enrestein Reshuffle is quite clearyly very much ignored whilst discussing not only German history but World history as a whole, this massive change in borders would not only be the centre reason for many wars such as the Franco-Prussian war and events such as German reunification, and of course it is well known they were the main reason for the outbreak of both world wars, this event was so mind boggling that Possible History himself could not hold back his fascination which he let ouf with a quite simple yet absolute word, 'wow'.
It's so satisfying to see such familiar borders emerge on the map
Actually you forgot quite a lot of things, to be fair most of them were minor border changes but still, that was the point of the video, right?
1. Bavaria lost small territories to Prussia in 1866
2. Oldenburg sold a small area to Prussia which became Wilhelmshaven
3. Hessen-Darmstadt lost territories to Prussia including Hessen-Homburg
4. Oldenburg got areas near Lübeck
Oh, it's Arminius! Hi!!! Thanks for the corrections, I really enjoy learning about niche border changes like these 💖
Also iirc the dutchy of limburg wasn't a part of the confederation at first but was a compensation for the half of Luxembourg.
I would love to see a full documentary of the entire history of Anhalt, from 1212 to this year
New video idea: what if everything went perfect for italy? I really enjoy your 'what if' videos!
Nobody seemed to have complained about it yet, so...
... you've got a minor error in the 1839/Belgian Revolution part: Prior to that, the whole of Luxemburg (= Luxembourg and Belgian Luxembourg combined) was part of the German Confederation. With the split of Luxembourg, the western (now Belgian) half left the Confederation, but to have it not loose in size (and shrinken the importance of the king of the Netherlands in that Confederation), the Dutchy of Limbourg was created out of thin air and added to the Confederation as well.
... and there was the strange case of Hesse-Homburg, which was recreated in 1815 (but after the congress of Vienna) and officially joined the German Confederation in 1817.
So glad he gave the dynastic shifts of Anhalt the attention it deserved
What If: Germany formed into two roughly equal sized states (northern and southern)? Say, after WW1.
Both would probably still unify if the funny mustache man follows the same timeline, but it’d probably create a slightly weaker Germany by the time ww2 rolls around (delayed by a few years? Idk)
Like Bavaria and Prussia?
with or without austria
@@chinesetaxevader with Austria. Bavaria is essentially just Northern Austria anyway.
@@kenos911 I think you might be right, but after WW2 what happens? I think they would de-unified and that could have big implications on EU and especially France's stance towards Germany since it would be clearly more powerful than either country. Especially if nothern germany went back to speaking their native language rather than the southern german they currently do now.
what if: the soviet union never annexed tannu tuva? how would the gigantic change in borders affect the world?
Imagine the massive historical ramifications if Anhalt hadn't unified!
Finally, my home state of Anhalt, now part of the state of Saxony-Anhalt, gets some much earned attention! 🎉
Always nice to see new stuff😍
I loved this video, the information was delivered in very easy to digest.
Congrats on 50K PH!
I don't know if it's a possibility with the way you edit but in the future could you possibly make some kind of intermittent flashing animation on the state you are talking about? At least for cases like this where there's so many small states all around the map it becomes a bit hard to tell which one you're talking about especially with ones that have lands disconnected from one another
You should have mentioned all states when they were anexed by Prussia
Nice video
Congrats on 50K. Let's see if you cam get 100K this year!
this was surprisingly good for an 8 minute video
Anhalt is just Austria pocket edition
Bro when he said "When the saxagoda line of the Wetin dynasty" I knew I was in for a treat
Great video! Next can you do one on a Habsburg lead Germany?
I would like to recommend an alternative history video: What if Prussia was weak and Bavaria united Germany.
Bavarians on the Internet be like
can you do a "what if everything went perfect for spain" starting from the union of castille and aragon.I think it would be interesting.
Remember when possible history actually mad alternate history videos but great vid keep it up
The isle Fehmarn is coloured as Danish after 1864, the same as isle Als. You are correct, that Fehmarn was not a part of Holstein, but a part of Schleswig. Only after 1866 the Prussians annexed it to Holstein. Oldenburg also got some parts of Holstein, as mentioned by some other.
pls a video about all border changes in the HRE
4 hour video
Yay another video
Awesome
Imagine a Total War: HRE.
Idea for a future video: what if *Ulm* unified Germany?
Origin of the name of Anhalt:
The name originated, because in the middle ages the count Esico wanted to replace the existing wooden castle with one made out of bricks. He said, that the castle should be build "ohne Holz" ("without wood"), but because this was a 1000 years ago the way he said it sounded more like "ahne Holt". That's how the got the name for Anhalt.
GLORY TO THE MIGHTY DUCHY OF ANHALT!!! 🟥🟩⬜🐻
Yeah I think that might just be a legend
What if Anhalt united Germany?
Gotta say this is the best work you have done, I don’t know why, but nobody focusses on the holy Roman Empire ( or German confederation ) this part of history is the most interesting part of Europe, Germany is definitely the main character of Europe
How long did It take you to draw the 1815 border gore in Germany?
Beautiful
Kinda disappointed you didn't go in depth about the history of the micro states in central and east Germany
the German Empire of 1848-1849 which lasted roughly a year
What if a Caucasus Federation was created after the Cold War/the USSR's collapse?
0:32 the group of small german states inside east prussia aprox. modern day berlin with purple green and blue if they united ressemble a tiny mini austria
That’s Anhalt
I'd love to see a video on if those Austrians 🇦🇹 had united German people instead of the Prussians and how that'd effect the rest of Europe, the international relations at the time and what it would have on the Grest War in just a few years after reunification.
He's already made a video on this topic but he chose 1648 so I'd be interested in another one too, if Austria United Germany after winning the bruderkrieg. Or, an alternate cool scenario, if the war ended in a stalemate with southern German states supporting Austria's claim and northern German states supporting Prussia's claim, so you'd have a north and south Germany. Both would border France too which would be quite funny.
@@TheGold1knight cool
0:40 bavaria is just a lake
Limburg wasn‘t part of the German Confederation before Belgian Luxembourg became part of Belgium.
It makes me sad that Hanover allied with Austria and later the Kingdom of Hanover was dissolved and annexed by the Prussians. They should have become a member of the North Germanic Confederation, and the Duchy of Limburg and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg should have become member states of a unified Germany.
Bismarck could sees how germany changes much in just one video
0:45 wow
Köthen mentioned

LAUENBURG MENTIONED YIPPEEEE
Austria Habsburg (aka Austrian Empire): *bullies Prussia (or Germany)*
56 years later.....
German 2nd Reich (German Empire) or former Prussia: *bullies Austria and later France*
I thought of a question and I think that it might make a good video: why was Czechia part of the German confederation
What if Wilhelm II. died before or during the first world war?
limburg only became part of the german confederation after belgian independence as compensation for the teritory luxembourg lost
I didnt know about the small dutch and belgian parts. Were they german speaking before?
Grand Duchy of Hesse and by Rhine, despite siding with Austria, was not fully annexed but lost a token strip of land to prussia while gaining some exclaves. This change was not represented in your video
do it for india from 1700 to 1947
Hanover should've unified Germany

Next video: Radical changes in the map of Germany from 1914 to now.
Now 1700-1814
Now do the entire history of H.R.E states. I'll give you a whole 15 minutes.
Why was East Prussia excluded from the Confederation, whereas Czech majority Bohemia and Moravia were included?
I sometimes wonder what would have happened if the Prussian Kulturekampf lead to the Catholic states in Germany rebelling with aid from the Austrians, a second thirty years war? a Two state solution? What do you think?
We love Anhalt lets gooo
We f*cking love United Anhalt
Bavaria acatally lost a bit of Territory after the franco prussian war
what if hitler invades hell? (Churchill makes a favorable reference to the devil in the House of Commons)
What if everything went perfect for Austria next!
Finally. No more border gore.
No their internal borders were still pretty bad until after ww2
my god
Hi
Damn
We've got to thank Napoleon.
am i the only one who thinks anhalt looks like the part of austrian empire in The German Confederation?
what if everything went perfect for the russian empire? (they get everything they wanted in 1814 in poland romania and finland) maybe if they got to keep tarnopol krakow and poznan and they could push to their ambitious claims on the city of danzig bukovina moldavia wallachia and the rest of galicia
New idea, what if everything went good for Hungary
What if Anhalt formed The German Empire
