Hi guys I just wanted to Introduce to you my other Channel "Things to Know" - which i'm just getting started. Great breakdown of the bar specifications! I really appreciate how you explained the pitch size and gauge size with clear examples. It’s so helpful to see the visual representation of the drive link too. Have you noticed any common mistakes people make when choosing bars for their chains? Would love to hear your thoughts!
How does the drive link number and pitch size relate to bar length? Obviously they do somehow.. for instance ...3/8' pitch and x72 equates to 216, divide by 8 for inches and you get 27. But that means the chain has a total length of 27. Divide 27 by 2 as the chain length is halved, and you get 13.5. So what size bar would this fit......a 14" or a 12"?
That's not how you measure chain. Remember you have to go around the outside of the bar and around the drive sprocket. + some bars are deeper then others. I have 2 14" bars that both take 3/8 low profile chain. One uses a 50 link chain and the other uses 52.
I bought a used Sthil MS391 saw-- without a chain. The new bar says .325" but the sprocket that is on the saw says 3/8" what to do?? Buy a different sprocket or buy a new bar??
Ok, all I can say about the codes on the chainsaw from my perspective is the following but please don’t quote me on this: The code on the bar of your Hyundai chainsaw, `8E20-76-5812P`, likely provides information about the specific chain bar model, dimensions, and other characteristics. Here's a breakdown of what the code may signify: 1. **8E20**: This could represent a specific model or series of the chainsaw bar, possibly indicating the type of bar or material it is made from. The exact meaning might be specific to the manufacturer. 2. **76**: This number usually refers to the **drive link count**. The drive links are the parts of the chain that sit in the bar groove and engage with the drive sprocket. A count of 76 means your chain has 76 drive links. 3. **5812**: This sequence typically refers to the **bar length and pitch**. - The first two digits (`58`) might refer to the **bar length** in centimeters or a specific product code related to the bar length. - The last two digits (`12`) likely refer to the **pitch** of the chain, which is the distance between three consecutive rivets on the chain divided by two. A pitch of `.325"` or `3/8"` is common, but in your case, `12` might correspond to a specific measurement used by Hyundai. 4. **P**: This might indicate a specific type of chain bar, like a **professional** or **pico** bar, or it could denote the profile of the bar (e.g., a narrow-kerf bar). These codes are specific to the manufacturer, so the exact interpretation can vary. It would be best to consult the chainsaw's manual or contact Hyundai support for precise information tailored to your model.
HI i have a saw branded xxx tools and the bar reads ZLB18-72-5810P the chain was removed and now im at a loss as to what chain to order ,, i understand that its an 18" bar with 72 drive links but what is the pitch ? any help apreciated
Unfortunately not. Different chainsaw manufactures make the bars for their own chainsaws differently to others. It would be much more simple if this wasn’t the case, but it is. I hope this helps. Thanks. Craig

0.325 " 0.058" gauge 72 dl for a 18 " bar. 76 dl, 20" bar
does any chainsaw bar works on any chainsaw?
