@@JLajos It also doesn't help that we have our past to compare with the present and the present has been churning out formulaic garbage for at least the past 20 years I've worked in music radio. I've seen a very sharp decline and had many, many conversations about it over bong hits. Once all the bigger labels swallowed up the little indie ones, the level of creative freedom lowered because fewer managers were handling more bands which breeds an environment where efficiency is a higher goal than quality of product. No one takes risks and that's what is missing. True Avant Gard not some poser corporatized version of it. Sorry for the rant.

The genius of Bill's work lies in the way that if you had neither heard either song before, this would be your idea of how the song _should_ sound. Because it sounds so completely authentic.

I have said to people for YEARS that "Smoke on the Water" is a secret disco song. If only I had this mashup to show them. Great job!
The genius of "Smoke On The Water" is that it follows very simple chord progressions that become quickly addictive to follow, like a commercial jingle. So many of the most popular songs in history were simple songs to follow.

You seem to have located a rare occasion when all 4 Gibb brothers performed together.
This was around 1978. I think Madison Square Garden. This moment in their history is considered 'the pinnacle' of the Bee Gees, they were never more-successful. Love that Andy got to share in their success, if only for a night.
Tbh George Jefferson's dance technique is impeccable.

many rock bands added disco sounds around this time to try and adapt to the trend, so there is lots of this kind of stuff out there from the late 70s, of course those albums seen as the rock bands worst albums.

@@alexandervandenhoogen3969 - yeah pretty much every one, including many of my beloved prog and fusion bands of the era (but not all). The added disco elements hurt what otherwise could be great songs, so I've learned to tolerate it but dont like it

You have to be familiar with 60s Bee Gees to appreciate their transition to the 70s Bee Gees! Barry Gibb didn’t start singing high until their disco period. Great mash up. Enjoyed the retro tv clips!

This really emphasizes the soul phrasing of Ian's voice.

so many RIPs in here it almost hurts, but I take all of it as a tribute to each of them. The Brothers Gibb that have left us, Patrick Swazye, Chris Farley, entirely half of Deep Purple, and nearly the whole cast of The Jeffersons
Back in the day, music genres didn't mix; they all had their lanes. So this mashup would be completly ahead of it's time!

Gillan is doing decent disco moves for a hard rock frontman. Damn, he even looks like one of the Gibbs. From 1:50 the whole thing is just crazy good.
Back in the days when Saturday Night Fever came out I was seriously depressed.
Disco was not my thing and made it worse.
Bands like Deep Purple kept me alive.

That's part of the secret to the success of disco. It's so easy to jump into a good disco song and find the rhythm to dance to it without even being a good dancer..

I saw Deep Purple playing yesterday in Hamburg, unfortunately there were no Bee Gees and they didn't play "Burn". Had a good time despite that!

This was a good mashup. Am a huge fan of DEEP PURPLE and am old enough to appreciate the BEE GEES track record. If I'm not mistaken, younger brother Andy is in the footage of them performing. The dance moves at the end are hysterical. I particularly liked George Jefferson.

when you do more then 45 concerts and seeing your music idols over and over ,nothing wrong with that ,lol we started singing back to Ian ,, "Slow Walking Walter,,The Fire Engine Guy" was awhile ago but we think he loved it ,, told us so at a meet and greet ,,,fun times
