Magnificent. The earlier beta-rules were already promising, and this just seems even better. I am so ready to be invested, especially after a certain other companies "Epic" game absolutely biffed it, with everything from fiddly, unnecessarily complex models, to horrible stock issues. Once again, Mantic steps in to heal my hobby sanity!
This is a huge step up from your previous video tutorials! Congrats on getting the audio and energy of the presenters fixed. The lighting is also a lot better. So far things seem clear enough. I'm interested in the game but am still not sure I can fit it, that said, I'll probably still get it as a wonderful little painting project. The minis look great so far.
Please do a tutorial playthrough for the new Kings of War Chill of Twilight Ambush Starter set. While we plan on playing it ourselves on our channel, it would be great to have an official how to for newbs like us. @@manticgames
Yeah much improved, just needs higher res cameras now! Screen casting the video to my TV gets grainy with saturated colours. But excellent progress which has been called upon for a long time!
Agree about the camera and lighting. But at least it's watchable thanks to the even audio and presenters being enthusiastic. It shows they are trying and that makes me want to invest in what they are selling. I really hope they go back and redo and update some of the previous intro and tutorial videos to better promote what they are selling. Next the website needs a lot of love. It blows my mind that there aren't photos of the minis from different angles or a 360 view of the minis. @@Clewerly
There are plenty of them. Current Kings of War rules works really well at a smaller scale games with some basic unit conversions. Just search for Kings of War 10mm or Kings of War 15mm to find these conversions and other articles. There is also YT content on this topic, and even a FB group called Kings of War - Small Scale.
Massive improvement to previous “How to plays”. I wasn’t even so tempted by the game, as this scale isn’t really my usual thing, but the smoothness of gameplay has got me reconsidering that. Super excited to see more content for the game.
Sooo looking forward to get this on my table, but please, please, for the love of co-prosperity, make the production tank models just a little bit bigger guys and this will be the perfect game of epic scifi mass combat! ❤️
Mantic to me is almost like a team I support! In the face of insurmountable odds, in the face of monoplising tyrants, they continue to produce. Mantic! Mantic!
If the goal of placing order tokens at the same time and facedown is to add mystery and trying to “read” the opponent why not make it more meaningful? Would it not be better to not actually reveal the order until the unit actually activates? I think this would add a lot of tension and mind games. It would also serve the dual purpose of easily keeping track of which units have activated.
I had initially thought that's how it was going to work - you reveal your order token when you choose which unit you'll activate. But I'd be curious to learn why the design team opted for this (reveal everything at once) too. Either way, this game looks very interesting!
I really like the production quality of this. I’m undecided on the game and I think I want to see more of the up close model images when the kickstarter drops. I know my friends are already in. I have been enjoying Deadzone though and excited for the Matsudon coming this summer
Bravo, Mantic. This is a GREAT play through video - battle reports should model themselves after this one! I watch these batreps to get a sense of how to play the game, and how the game feels. You guys did an EXCELLENT job of doing that in this video. more batreps of this style, please!
Great vdo. Looking forward to seeing the Veermyn. 10mm is a great compromise between mass effect and good detail on sculpts so I am happy you chose that scale.
Much improved! Great work andy! I’d love to see you bring in some RUclips gamers to play more of mantic games on the channel with this new level of quality focus👍
Love the ruleset, the way tokens are used makes things really clear and is elegantly done. Backing the KS, hope we make that Veer-myn stretch goal as thats my pick for an army!
There’s no reason why you couldn’t do that (in terms of how the game plays). We’ve had feedback both for and against so I guess at least everyone has a preference and they can then do it how suits them.
+1 for vehicle bases. Having the jetbikes on bases but not the hover tanks is also an odd inconsistency. The hover tanks also have a higher height value than the infantry but are actually lower in profile when placed directly on the table.
Much better quality! Needs some close up shots and perhaps an overhead view of the entire table? Some dedicated camera for a dice tray too. But very good work Andy!
Working with what I've got at the moment. There was a camera view of the entire table but it was cropped in a lot of times just as the minis in this are so small its hard to see.
haha, @@manticgames Keep pusing for more cameras, better quality, etc. This professional quality stuff really does make a big difference! This is great, and VERY nice to see. Well done.
Looks great - looking forward to the campaign & hoping for an STL pledge 🤞since that was one of the considerations in the survey. That’s mostly so I can get the minis in hand sooner than waiting for physical miniatures
Please Mantic Games, make Kings of War at the same epic scale. Epic Warpath is definitely a success, so make it also for your fantasy flagship, I bet it will be also a success.
Looks very promising! My friend and I debated the aparent lack of a morale system (would've been cool if you could break a dug-in unit just by shelling it for a few rounds), but the system overall looks really smooth. Can we look forward to a Kings of War demo batrep produced to this standard? Something tells me right now is a promising time for that. ;)
It would have been nice to not need separate to-hit and damage rolls, I get that it's because of the way the unit stats work but it seems a bit dated these days. Despite that I'm pleased with what I see, Mantic are always a step ahead of their Nottingham neighbours in terms of common sense game mechanics. I also really like the dynamic objective idea, that's a nice touch.
Because only having one roll would either have to solely put the outcome on the attackers offensive ability, or the defenders defensive ability. It's necessity to consider both to have interesting unit differences.
@@ryano1808 Battletech does that without having the player make a defensive roll. Defence is done with a combination of position, terrain, distance and mechs movement speed so the taget number is variable. The reason i bring up battletech Alphastrike is because its basically the same scale as this.
Myself and a number of those in my gaming group are really looking forward to Epic Warpath. Admittedly the four factions being offered at launch aren't really my cup of tea but I can still see myself picking up a basic force to sink my teeth into the game.
Blast seems very strong, otherwise looks great! I wonder though the commanders in warpath are quite combat oriented but here they seemed to hide a lot.
Okay, good. I needed someone to take my money since Games Workshop can't anymore (what with me not making six figures). Very good, since you don't actively hate your customers.
Game seems to lack sci-fi flavour. Apart from a couple of commands and some stat differences “The Plague” are not dissimilar to the other side. The advancing infantry and armoured vehicles could represent a generic 20th century conflict.
Alright chaps, will the new halo employ these mechanics or is it more skimish? Im a confirmed Deadzone player but loving warpath epic, and might be dipping in. Its a bonkers Mantic world this year, my wallets going to get a bit bruised😂
Looks commendably efficient, but also pretty sterile and lacking in the way of excitement and immersion. 3 strategic abilities per faction isn't enough to carry a game in this regard. Resolving indirect fire was the only part that seemed tactilely satisfying, but also a lot of work for not a lot of damage. Needs more spice!
We're sure that with the other factions, their strategic abilities plus the 2 universal abilities there's enough to keep the vast majority of folks interested without becoming overly burdened in complexity. We want to make it as accessible as possible and then we can layer on extra stuff later as required.
I can't agree with this. The alternative is something like Dystopian Wars which is a good game ( I have a couple of fleets ) but can also be migraine inducing with the number of special rules and interactions. People have been playing historical wargames for years with very few "special rules" for "factions" and there is no reason that such games cannot be hugely tactical and exciting.
May I recommend you look at the other UK miniature company if you want overly complex faction rules. And I’m not saying that to throw shade. It’s just a difference in design philosophy.
@@timunderbakke8756 I didn't say I want complex faction rules, I said the game lacks excitement and immersion outside the faction rules. I'm not currently seeing anything in the way of satisfying payoffs like a Surged flank charge is in KoW, nor the tension of a hero lying in the mud in Vanguard hoping they get to activate and stand up before someone steps on their neck. (and these games are themselves very tame in comparison to the wider market)
@@captainferrite personally I think you need to be invested on the outcome a bit more than is possible to do in a see it played video in order to see how narrative develops fromm the rules?
