The remake that started it all! The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remains one of the best remakes to ever be made. Trading the gritty snuff film realism of the 1974 original for a more traditional slasher approach, this remake manages to capture the terror and intensity while giving you well fleshed-out characters, including one who rivals Leatherface himself as the scariest character in the franchise.

Sitting in a dark theater and being surrounded by the sound of that revving chainsaw is still one of the greatest movie moments of my life.
It must’ve been so scary seeing it in the theatre! I wish I had that experience but then again I was literally 6 when it came out so no way was I able to see it in the cinemas at the time lmao 😂
@@EnchantedTooWell lol i was 3 for this one and 6 for the prequel that came after.... needless to say i couldnt see them as a kid in theaters, but watching at 2 am in ur pre/early teens its still good, fun, and had good scares/suspension building. Actually love these reimaginings compared to most, and especially the past 2-3 texas chainsaws..
Same here
This remake is one of the best
+Saiyan Sleek Media Definitely
It's okay i'll give it a 8
I like two better because of chop top
It'll creep anyone out to realise that this is very loosely based on lol, I'd never say though on the back of the cover (least here it was) when it says inspired by real events, thats bollocks no it wasn't not even close, loosely based on Ed Gein, similar to Psycho and the Buffalo Bill character in some ways.
Oh yeah without a doubt 🔥🔥🔥
RIP R. Lee Ermey. Guy was a classic.
The first time I ever saw him was in The Frighteners when he made a cameo.
I didn't know he passed away 😔 how?
I remember him in the Frighteners but he was absolutely perfect for/in these two movies, that’s great casting right there.
“ your ass looks like 20 pounds of chewed bubblegum “
What?!? I had no idea he passed away!! The dude was a brilliant actor, scary af in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake
Growing up watching old slashers I remember when this movie came out and it scared the shit out of me. It's still the only slasher film I've seen only a couple times cause of how uncomfortable it makes me feel watching these people be tortured with no hope of escape.
+Fr3nzy1000 Yep it unnerved the hell out of me when I first watched it.
This and the Friday the 13th remake are my 2 favourite horror remakes. By far the worst horror remake though is the 1998 Psycho remake.
Dawn of the Dead (2004)
The Hills Have Eyes (2006)
I've always thought Marcus Nispel was the master of horror remakes. TCM and F13 are 2 of my top 5 remakes.
Agreed. The Psycho remake was just ridiculous. Scene for scene but they add in Norman having a wank, wtf.
@@LGray71 Not only that but in the shower scene it randomly keeps cutting to a thunderstorm outside the motel while Marion's getting killed, when Arbogast gets killed out of nowhere flashes to a naked woman and a goat with blood dripping from its beard happen.
Nightmare on Elm street
I loved this movie tbh, that shot of the camera zooming backwards through her mouth then her head just drops back... classic man it's stuck with me all these years
I remember watching this at like 7 or 8 years old. This movie scared the hell out of me the first time I watched it😂😂😂
+Michael Mccraw It got me pretty good at age 13 so I hear ya
This is the scariest and best remake the most memorable movie ever I only had to watch it once. Now that I'm older I think I wanna watch it again
Saw this when I was 17 in theatres and man, it was INTENSE! I had watched countless horror movies before that as well so that speaks volumes to how effective it was.
Was that hitchhiker just hiding that gun up her snatch the whole time? I'm honestly curious, it's always bugged the hell out of me lol
+FilmMasterAdam I think that's what they suggest yeah. That's how I always saw it anyway.
Love your reviews Adam!
Cody Leach what’s going on with your nose in this video
@@TheSlimshadyfan4ever He said in another review that it was from a dog bite.
@@artvandelay7608 Didn't Leatherface in this remake wear a mask because he lost his nose? Is Cody Leatherface?! Oh shit!
This is my favorite TCM ever!! It had me on the edge of my seat the whole time in the theater. I was still in shock the next day.
I’m glad you appreciate this remake. It’s truly a disturbing (at times) and enjoyable remake, I love it. ‘THAT’S NOT YOUR BABY!’ Great stuff!
YOU STOLE HER!!!!!!
@@mynameisgigi lol EXACTLY.. I just love that! I just quote it randomly sometimes!
This remake is on my top 10 horror movies of all time.
It's good ain't it ! What's your other favourites?
The opening scene with the girl n the van made me jump I said this is gonna b good I can tell
Yeah, tell us your secret.
I agreed on R. Lee Ermey. I wonder what the actors/ actresses thought of working with him on set. But I did love this remake.
Jonathan Haydon I would of been scared...but strangely attracted
He was a normal dude.
THAT BOOTY THOUGH!!! nice touch :-) and congrats on 5K climbing that charts man and quick!!!
+Haddonfield News haha I had to open this one right.
Just saw it, didn't expect to love it more than The Beginning! I think Leatherface has the scariest look in this one! I think, besides beeing less gory than it's prequel, it's far more mentally challenging and has far more intense moments! Totally love it, this is the real Leatherface!
One of my favorite remakes
The found footage stuff, coupled with the file photos that came with the special edition DVD that I had actually made me believe that it was a recreation of a real story. I agree that this is very high in the rankings of horror remakes.
The case file photo of Leatherface in that special edition scarred me as a child
I freaking adore this film. Erin is one of my favourite final girls.
This movies is brilliant a perfectly scary, gory and fast paced remake. Brilliant characters that have all these different personalities and creepy as hell family. Cinematography is beautiful too.
This is one of my favorites. 2003/4 was a hard time for me. But one of my favorite memories is hanging with my friends, smoking weed and watching movies together, helped me get through those times. TTCM remake was one of them.
That zoom-out through her new head hole made me sick. I loved it.
Yeah one of the best remakes ever. It's actually a terrifying movie.
It's not terrifying at all I've seen scary this wasn't
Your videos are fun to watch. Your personality really shines through on your reviews!
+gnc623 Thank you that's what I go for
The salt on the severed leg was awesome.
That scene has always stuck with me, shit would suck lol
This movie has to be my favorite of the whole series.
+Mitchell Hoosier It's way up there for me too
I got to come back to this review every now and then. This is one of the only movies that the tv spot alone kept me up at night. As a kid who lived in Texas everything about this movie scared me. My aunt had this on dvd and I can remember staring at the back of the case at the pictures for hours. Love this film!
Hell yeah, Cody! Another fantastic review from you. This is definitely one of the best horror remakes of all time! My dad took me to see it in theaters when I was 11, and I remember being very scared and entertained! And for me, it still holds up at age 27!
This was my favorite installment of the series. But you definitely reminded me of when my friends and I went to the theatre when it came out. Keep improving, you are doing pretty good.
Also I couldn't agree more, this was my first introduction to the series and I rented it on DVD when it came out. I was 13 as well and my family had a great home theatre (as good as you could get for that time) And I watched it by myself and it really was very unnerving. I was terrified specially since I watched it alone but I told myself I was gonna make it through which I'm glad I did because the beginning really does a fantastic job of building up the suspense.
+JustIntricate Yeah this movie is great
This movie rocks. very underrated.
Love this remake and the Friday the 13th remake, they are both the definitive movies in their franchise
The best remake ever, hands down. Jessica Biel, best ass ever.....period!!!!
@Will DiGiovanni nicki's ass ain't even her own ass
Jessica’s OO > her 🍰s
Love the intelligence you bring to your reviews. It really sets them apart.
This and The Beginning are my favorite TCM movies.
Those are awesome as a double feature...I just rewatched both back to back and they're great!
You and drumdums are seriously my favorite movie review Friends ever, Cody you understand what should be made right into horror or any genre films we love into perspective as a true fan and even friend... I appreciate you guys making me fall in love with fall again like the kids we used to be.
+Matthew Boren Thanks for the kind words man I really appreciate it. Glad we can bring some joy.
Love your channel man, you and the maniacal cinophile should do a collaboration if y'all haven't already. The reboot TCSM movies are my favorite. Rings way more frightening to me than anything else. Keep er goin mister
+Lionel Lulow Thanks a lot man. He would be crazy to collab with that's for sure!
I thought this was one of the better newer remakes. The new Amityville horror was ok, the Friday the 13th wasn't bad. Nightmare on Elm Street was bad but only because of the script. Halloween was ok. The adult Michael Myers was better than him as a kid (trying to sympathize with him) This had the old school feel to the film but was updated with scares and intense. I wished they didn't go backwards after this and would've done a part 2 instead of a prequel.
Could you do a best horror remake list list?
The hiding in the locker scene with LF chasing her reminds me of “DEAD BY DAYLIGHT”!!
Awesome review Cody! I remember seeing parts of this one but not the whole thing.
Recently found your channel and I've been binge watching all your horror vids! Can I just say I LOVE your hilarious openings 👌🤣 Keep it up!! 👏
+horror ghoul haha Glad you enjoy them. The openings are often my favorite parts to create.
We're so close to you reviewing the movie I've been waiting for since you started this series! Can't Wait!!! I hope you see some of the things I do in it! I'm Hyped!
+Rad MovieGuy There's definitely things I like about it
The opening 😂
This is my favorite remake of all time.
I remember this in the theatre and after the girl shoots her head off, a woman grabs her 5 year old boy and escorts him out. 😂
My most scary movie in the theatre experience as well. At least, it's the first one I think of when I think of most scared in the theatre.
I actually prefer it to the original. The original, and I know this is it's point, leaves you exhausted after we watch Sallys journey through hell whereas the remake is so much more fast paced in its delivery. I get tired while watching the original and the table scene gets tiring fast but keeps going in terms of torturing Sally. I'm just like, get this over with already.
But I'm not a huge aficionado of this series. I just love a good slasher movie and this totally delivered.
I remember the next generation made me want to pull my eyes out it was so bad.
yoooo this movie haunted me for YEARS. i remember watching it when it came out to Hollywood Video and i was only 8 years old at the time, and it really made me think leatherface was gonna come after me and my family FOR YEARS. i also have a permanent fear of chainsaws now but its also because theyre loud af and how wouldnt that scare anyone haha
Apart from classic remakes like The Fly and The Thing, this is definitely one of the best remakes. Regarding recent remakes, I would also rank Evil Dead and Last House on the Left among the best even though I hear a lot of love for the Hills Have Eyes remake. Didn't you just recently hit 4k subscribers, Cody, because that 5k mark is just phenomenal! Looking forward to more amazing reviews from you as usual, man!
+Yuzuru Nomura Thanks man. Yeah I actually went from 1500 to 5000 in just about two months.
Edit: I see you answered about your nose already. Glad you're okay, good to see you keep your videos coming and not put them off because of the scabbing. True dedication there, don't think I would be able to do that myself.
Keep up the great work!
+Dillon Fisher Thank you
you reviews are always on point, thanks for doing them
+80's Horror fan 88 Thanks man glad you enjoy them
This Remake is like my all tiime favourite Horror Movie :)) It has everything i need and want from a Horror Movie. Thanks a lot for the review Cody. I am totally new to your Channel so here i am checking out your Videos. Keep up the amazing Work.
i was literally screaming at the screen when she was lying on the ground with the chainsaw screaming at it while leather face is tussling with her friend.
This definitely was the first character that truly terrified me as a kid. Freddy was and Jason were both scary at the time but holy shit when Leatherface came through the door with the chainsaw I almost jumped out of my seat and ran away.
Nice job man . Good videos . I live in Savannah lol not used to seeing many people living in GA so that’s pretty cool you live in rincon. Well I saw something in one of your video descriptions that said that at least. I Was also 7 in 97 like you said in your alien resurrection video 😂
Love this movie. It was a fantastic movie theater experience seeing this back in '03
Nigel is definitely a visionary director & he did a great job w/ both Texas & Friday remake,
Cool note: He's the guy that directed Bush's big budget
music video in the mid 90s for "Greedy Fly" which was highly inspired by the movie Seven.
I loved the 1st kill with the hitchhiker when she shot herself and the camera followed the entrance and exit wound
I love this man. This was the first Texas Chainsaw movie I seen. And the first R rated movie I saw in the cinema by myself. I also had to see this twice in theatres. definitely one of the best.
And I just hate it when people constantly compare remakes to the originals and give the remake the middle finger.
+Maurice Tha Beast Vlogz Yeah this was the first TCM movie for me too and one HELL of a place to start.
Awesome video bro!! Love your channel and reviews!!
+Jhomarie Manzano Thank you
This movie got me in to the original even though this is my favorite remake
Great job! Your review was on the nose.
Thank you
im a fan of both versions. Each on provides a different entertainment experience so i really respect both version and love them equally :D
I had a very emotional dream about this movie last night...I relived the memory of my first time watching it..m I woke up beautiful sad....
I had to re watch your review
Rest in piece to R. Lee Ermey you will be miss and this was your best performance
One of the best horrors and remakes. Beautifully shot, so visceral, great sound & cinematography and excellent acting.
Amazing remake! One of my favorites! Awesome review
It’s really between the 2003 and 2006
The remake and original are equal to me. But if I can only pick one. I'll choose the remake because it's the first TCM I watched in my life.
Great review like always! Keep up the good work.
+Mitchel Danielson Thanks a lot man
Cody Leach Your welcome dude.
You should review jeepers creepers franchise since there are 3 of them now
+David Cottone I will for sure! I love the first one.
+Leon Wa Wa Watson Awww I remember when I said my first cuss word. Go do your homework little guy.
Don't be fuckin with my boy Cody. Go get a life dude and quit putting negative Reviews on people's stuff. everyone's in titled to their own opinions. where's your RUclips channel and videos where's your subscribers? oh that's right you ain't got none. 😂😂😂
@Brain freezer shut up dude like seriously
Hi Cody, I'm early. Great video as always, keep 'em coming.
+Sampo Luisto Thank you
great review yet again dude 👍👍👍💯💯💯
+Evan Maggs Thanks man
I thought this film was brilliant one of the best horror film's and one of the best remakes I only wish it was a little more violent but otherwise A+ in my view.
+Lee Sullivan Agreed
A little more violent?? OMG this one was outrageous!!
I love how throughout the movie, the sky in the movie gets darker with every grim scene
Never gave the Texas Chainsaw Massacre series a chance but since I'm seeing a lot of positive reviews for this remake (except freaking Rotten Tomatoes) I'm going to start by giving it a chance with watching this movie
I remember seeing this is the theater too. I think I was 14 or 15... Loved it. Still watch it on DVD all the time
+Ricki Lynn Me too!
When I was a kid this movie traumatized me lol it will forever be one of my favorite horror movies
I also saw this movie for the first time in theaters at like 13 and was introduced to the franchise. This movie always stuck in my mind because of how scary it was.
Dawn of the dead 2004, Hills have eyes 1&2, and this were the best horror remakes I've ever seen
I believe that u sir are a great movie reviewer. U will be up there like chris stuckmann and jeremy jahns
+Mike Adonis Thanks a lot man. That would be insane.
You’re growing so fast man! I’m so happy for you.
Except Cody is not obnoxious and annoying as fuck, like Jeremy Jahns. You want the best reviews? Watch RedLetterMedia.
Wow was I blown away when I saw this in the theatre at how bloody, vicious and boundary pushing this film was. The scene where (I think ) Jessica Biel has to kill the guy who lost part of his legs because he asks her to is so raw, so violent. Some days I hate this movie, some days I love it
Yes, I think the remake was vastly underestimated (in particular by the critics) especially compared with some of the other films in the franchise so it's nice to see you pointing that out.
I almost completely agree with you here with a tiny exception: I don't think Biel's character Erin made that many dumb decisions in the first two thirds and she was actually supported by Pepper as well so she wasn't going against the entire group. I think the only stupid decisions she made was picking up the hitchhicker and when she committed suicide, not dropping her off and get out of here. All the other times when she put herself or her friends in danger was trying to save one of her friends or her boyfriend Kemper. So there's the irony, when she was trying to save someone in the team, she got her other friends killed.
Agreed
ur funny as hell man!!! Keep up the good work
+Derek Goodin Thanks man!
In the UK alot of people don't know of the original because it was banned here for 20 years or at least as unknown as one of the best horror movies ever made can be
It was banned until 1998 I think
Can't wait for the TCM ranking I'm sure it's coming gonna be good!!
Found out I use to live 30mins away from that house
Love the Channel Cody I’m a new subscriber! Can you do YOUR NEXT and or Cabin in the woods!
Thanks man. Both of those are on my list to do eventually
I think the water is coming from the earth above the dungeon. If you take notice of where they come out when they escape the dungeon. It's basically in the middle of the field beside the house.
Can we also take about the poster of this movie? Cause like I remember as a kid, that poster always intrigued me but also creeped me the fuck out.
The First Time That I Ever Saw This Scary Movie I Was 12 Year's Old I Got Scared This One Introduced Me To The Franchise I Really Love How Scary This One Is
Finally, someone that has the balls to admit this was good.
Like the reboot/remake of Friday the 13th this Leather face felt very primal, and very visceral. Tho the original is better shot and filmed as it was a far better director and more vile and sick this was one of the top 3 horror remake's and reboots. When that survivor woman kills herself rather then even have a 1% chance of going back to the Sawyer's I felt ok.... they are again embracing that 1970's spirit of shock, disgust, horrify, and unnerve. Overall a very done film and one I often get new people in horror to watch after the original. I just feel the talent of the director makes the original a classic where as this is just a solid an good horror film.
Great points man
This one and the original are the only films I care about in this franchise
And The Beginning. It's cool to see all the pieces falling into place in that one. Plus, I own the comic that continues the story of this movie and it's awesome.
Great video man, I always loved this movie when I was younger, never understood why it got some hate. It would be cool if you reviewed “The Exorcist”, that movie was the only horror movie ever to really creep me out. Would love to hear your thoughts on it. Thanks.
I was in my elementary years when this movie came out and I remember my cousin having a cool two disc set of it! Scared the crap of me then and I love it now when I got it on blu-ray a few months ago!
I was almost 26 years old when this movie came out. Damn, I feel old in the comments section of youtube.
Remake review this one got everyone shooked! I remember
This remake is actually the very first horror movies I've seen, I watched it when I was in high school when I was it (another student brought it in for us to watch in class.) I remember, when I was it, it scared the hell out of me, and it even made me scared of living in Texas (I lived in Houston, TX) it made me so scared and paranoid, today though, I love this movie, and the franchise.
I also experienced this film in three theater and holy shit! Great experience!
Thank you sir, I get why people don't like it but as far as remakes go it really does a great job. One criticism I hear alot is that it's shot like a music video (style) which maybe idk but there was alot of effective scenes for me that I thought were shot well.
This and Friday the 13th are remakes done RIGHT.
"WTF Are ya doin?.. HAUL ASS!!" 😆😅 LMAO
Great review man!! Enjoyed this movie and its prequel too.
+Bo Shrek Thank you
