I watched this and immediately downloaded Project Hail Mary and completed it in a single sitting while driving from San Diego to Eugene Oregon. It’s my favorite book now. Period. I’m about to read it again.
They better get Rocky right in the movie 🤣 I want to leave going “AMAZE AMAZE”

Yes! At 40:08 Andy talks about the Eridians not knowing about Relativity. I always thought that was one of the coolest things in the story. And yeah, I'm kinda tired of the aliens always being the more superior race over humans. I was waiting for them to talk about that Relativity thing. I loved how Rocky's mind was blown when Grace explained it.

I listened to another podcast where Andy talked about the movie. And he mentioned Ryan Gosling, and Lord and Miller and Drew Godard. That was 3 years ago. I just checked imdb. It's listed as a 2026 movie, in production right now. That's 5 years or so. Man. I really hope this doesn't fall apart. It just feels like such a dream team for this story.

I absolutely loved the book, but i'm a little nervous for that choice of lead for the movie adaptation. but in typical Hollywood fashion, the role rarely goes to the actor who will do the best job. it's all about marketing and Gosling is good marketing i guess?. I hope he does a good job, but when i look at him i don't see scientist, or grade school teacher.

Lovely conversation! Mr. Andy Weir have a very beauty way to tell hard sci fi storys. I remember one episode on the Star Trek franchise (think was on "Enterprise") where an alien consul was horrified because the Captain Archer invited the delegation for dinner...
Looking ahead on the channel video list, you have some very "heavy weight" minds in here and, as usual, exceeded expectations, Mr. Scott. Deepfully thank you for that and... maybe you can make a round with Prof. Edmund Copeland sometime? (excuse my rusty South American english)

Joe - thanks for this incredible interview! Brilliant, hard sci-fi stories seem rare, so I really have wanted to geek out with others on this title. The release of the video was perfectly timed as I just completed my second pass on the audiobook. Thrilled to hear a sequel may be in the works. The only challenge for me with the audiobook was having Ray Porter narrate since he also performed in the Bobiverse series. For a while, it felt like Bob was on the ship. Now I'll be thinking of Grace the next time I listen to a story that Ray voices!

Hi. I'm super excited to have found this book. It caught my glimpse as I saw it as a recommendation on Obamas instagram haha. I suffer from depression and for a long time I had difficulties to pick up a book although I love sci-fi. Also I watched the Martian a lot. It really really helped me. Both books are centered around loneliness and finding a reason to make your journey worth it.
