I saved up and bought my own planes to avoid this drama.
In Solidarity, however West-Jet should compensate stranded passengers. Consumer confidence is already compromised.
We got stranded in Phoenix for 24 hours. Had to buy our own Alaskan airlines tickets back to Calgary. 1000$ USD each. I expect reimbursement.

Read the bill of rights. Every passenger affected is entitled to a minimum of 1k. Fight them for your entitlement. Just like the employees are doing. Awful company.

The Union strike timing ultimately injured their own earnings over the long term. Customer confidence is shaken. I have a Westjet booking on a future date but I would gladly cancel this booking if it was worth it to me. If Westjet income takes a downturn, then less employees are needed. Not an issue with those in the Union with seniority, but it will impact there dues.
Having a Union provides protections, but it was poor concession management by the Union. A work slow down would have had better PR results than an abrupt stoppage.

I hate unions with a passion.
Companies get the unions they deserve. This was completely avoidable had WestJet just compensated their maintenance engineers properly. They make far less than their American counterparts while having a higher cost of living and being taxed higher. You'd want proper compensation too if you were in their shoes.
Screw unions.
