Lancia Aurelia - The Car That Almost Beat Ferrari!

- The Lancia Aurelia is a car with a very rich and elegant history. The Lancia Aurelia almost beat a Ferrari 340 in 1951 at the Mille Miglia even though the Ferrari had a 4.1L engine VS the Lancia's 2.0L. it was only 20 minutes behind! Another fun fact is Lancia's engineer, Vittorio Jano paid no attention to cost when it came to designing his beautiful cars. In this video I will go over these facts and many more about the stunning Lancia B24S and the impact it made on the Automotive world. Not only do I dive into the history of the Lancia Aurelia as a model, but also into the intricate details on this exact car. One of those details is the importance of having a factory hard top, or having the Lancia Classiche which shows this car is all matching numbers, and the fun reason why there is a small hole in the side of this car (and many other 50's and 60's cars). Lancia is an underappreciated make in the US, so hopefully this video will give the viewer a little insight into the brand and what makes them so special.

This was excellent Colleen. I always enjoy how in depth you explain the cars. Absolutely fantastic!
Thanks!
Wunderschöne Aurelia
von Lancia
I love 1950's Lancias. Wish I was still wealthy enough to just say ship it.
The pronunciation is "Lan-cha," not Lan-see-ah.
It depends where you are from. When I was in Turin for the centenary their PR people pronounced it "Lunch".
Great video! I have had a Bburago model of that car since I was about 10 (51 now). It is still in my livingroom today! I never knew much about them because most of the info I aquired was in Italian. Nice to finally find out why I fell in love with Lancia's history. My favorite car of all time has always been the Stratos so the Aurelia was it's grandma I suppose.
Hi Colleen, I love your channel and it's content and am a subscriber. It's very informative. You're a wonderful presenter and a lovely young lady. So, I feel badly correcting your pronunciation of Lancia. It's a stickling point with me having owned a couple models.
Lancia, a family name (surname), is pronounced "LON - SHA" .
It's very common to mispronounce the name, and the only person I've heard address and correct the common mispronunciation is Jason Cammissa. Maybe it's an Italian - American thing, but Jay Leno (one of us) doesn't pronounce it properly either. Looking forward to your next video.
Here's what I said to Mike in an email: Lovely car Mike. 50 years ago, when I attended Loyola's Rome Campus, a friend (and he still is) had/has a 57 Aurelia cabriolet, used in a movie. One night we went from the school at the north end of Rome (just above Olympic stadium) to Pasquino movie theater (english language) in Trastevere in 8 minutes. Speeds hit 160 kph on Lungotevere and we went through flashing yellow lights at a crazy speed. Thank God I am still alive !!
My mate is one of the leading Italian early Lancia experts !!
Sorry its in Italian: ruclips.net/video/sqCdp_VIM6E/видео.html
"Thank God I am still alive !!" - so too all those in your path.
Amazing that the styling is still fresh and relevant. Looks so good amongst the California backdrop: where old classics retire to. Thanks : D
Very impressed with you young lady. My granddaughter is gonna be like you if I have anything to do with it. It’s what we know that makes us strong 💪🏼 love your videos. 👍🏼
I remember one of those Police Academy comedy movies that was made in the 1980's. There was this character named High Tower in it. He was ridiculously tall, and taking this driving lesson in a 77 Honda Civic. He tore the front seats out with his arms, left them in the parking lot; then sat in the back seat to drive it. (LOL)
Stunning!! Best part of the car is the dash mounted rearview mirror😉classy!!

Thank you for saying “it’s a two man job.” It was refreshing to hear you use proper English and no- I did not take it that you meant it was a two-male job. We are all huMAN.
Wow, nice. I was wondering when or if you'd ever get one of these.
Qll kinds of cars come in. We havnt pushe out a ton of videos lately as it has been mostly the larger quiet deals lately.
Beautiful thing, even if it sounds like it needs a tune. Loved the 'nerdy' kit! The S is for 'sinistra', with an 'i'; it shares the latin root with 'sinister' in English as left-handed people were viewed as inherently bad! But isn't that a beautiful car. Just proves that you can put a giant grill on a car and make it elegant. If only BMW could manage it nowadays.
Very interesting regarding the etymology of 'sinister'; thanks for that. Also agree with you about the grill. Truly a drophead gorgeous car!
@@MisAnnThorpe nice play on drop-dead gorgeous 😊
Tiktok brought me here 😔
Sweet! Glad you made it! 😀
A splendid and well-informed piece. Thank you! Your 2551cc V6 Aurelia is a half-liter larger that the 1991cc motor that powered the 1951 Mille Miglia Aurelia. The body of your Aurelia was designed by Ghia, and built bi Piinin Farina. Best to you, Jack
