Holy crap! I always wondered how Maria got around the castle safely, turns out she’s the scariest thing in there!
It's less a question of how she gets around safely while in the castle and more how the castle gets on safely while she's in it. Spoiler alert, it doesn't.
Maria is soo fun to play as in the Saturn version. Although I understand why they changed her to be more like her Rondo of Blood incarnation in the later releases, it's still sad that we never got "Ultra Instinct" Maria again!
At least we have the translation patch and the enhancement patch now!
EDIT: And now we have the Meduza ultimate edition patch!!!
The adult Maria as a martial fighter makes so much more sense honestly. As a child she's been using her magical powers as a crutch, and now she's complimenting her physical prowess with them. I'd like it much more if Konami left her kicks and dashes intact.

@@MiraihiGenerally speaking, i would have loved to see her function a tinge more like her Rondo counterpart. She might as well be another character at this point, as none of her traits really carry over personality wise. Obviously, she’s older, and it’d be odd and tonally strange if she fulfilled the exact same role. For example, her naiveness exhibited from say, her ending dialogue with Dracula from Rondo would have to be toned down.
Gameplay wise, as fun as she is with her baseline movement, I think she lacks _so_ much of her original fighting style, especially with her summons. Why does the tiger summon fire, when the red bird does so in Rondo? It seems like the PSP fixes those conceptual inconsistencies, but also makes her far too close to her play style from Rondo; where she is loads of fun to play as with her additional movement in a Classicvania, that being applied to the Metroidvania titles comes off as meh, especially for a side character mode. All in all, we probably should have a Maria that combines all of her ideas with Saturn’s movement as the base.

through the last 20+ years I have come to the conclusion that Castlevania: symphony of the night is an infinite game and we will continue to find new stuff in all of its versions for the next 100 years.
Maria animations are so smooth, specially during a speedrun. No wonder she was intended to somewhat resemble a ninja.

Oh man I never got to experience the game with Maria - would love to replay the game again with her moveset - lots of fun movement options and spells to essentially blitz through the castle
Though this specific version of Maria is only playable in the Saturn version. Modern ports use the PSP version, in which she plays completely different
The owl summon can be used to reach unreachable switches. I think it's only use is in the Catacombs section.

I think its called Sacred Fire/Flame. The attack usually connected to the Crimson Bird of the Sacred Beasts.

I still wish we got this maria in the requiem version. A perfect combination of martial arts and summoning magic is literally such a cool idea to me and definitely seems like a natural evolution of her play style in rondo of blood.

I was wondering what Maria is like in action in other games. Only reference is from _Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls._ Because of the magic of the grimoires, you have a whole cast of CV characters being manifested, from Simon and Trevor Belmont, to Maria, to Shanoa, Albus, and beyond. On top of that, there are TWO versions of Maria! 12yo version of her is a primary character, but her 17yo version is in the form of Alter Arts (characters you can tag in and play as for about 30s at a time).

Four beast spell caught my attention. Looked like tiger, phoenix, turtle and dragon. Which are the 4 totem gods of a game called Nexus TK which is based on Korean Mythology. Baekho = tiger. Ju Jak = Phoenix. Hyun moo = turtle and Chung Ryong = Dragon.
They're the same colors too.
After doing some research that's exactly what these are though these ones are based on off Chinese mythology. Either way found it interesting.

The fact that we never got Maria, until we did get Maria, but that version was a completely different version, makes me feel so robbed. Not to mention the other two secret areas (even if they were barely anything except a boss fight).
I wish they brought this Maria to the modern collection. I enjoyed this one a lot!

They are called jack o bones becuase they use a jack shaped skull. This is a reference to the children's game jacks
For anyone curious, the Android version supports Maria mode, although it appears to be very limited compared to what is shown here.
It runs fine at Memu Play or Nox. I did it.

Ah yes, mix all uppers, downers, and every prohibited substance in the planet and you get to be the most dangerous predator. Pair that with an indestructible body, the power of anime, and the ability to phase in and out of existence you might just beat Maria.
I think the thing about the doppleganger is that he was created to be another alucard and was sealed there later

She works the same as Richter, HP Ups and Heart Ups add +10 to their respective stats and you get a boost in damage from defeating certain bosses plus anothet boost after completing the first castle.
