One fun thing about Baten Kaitos 100% is that even if you remove the Shampoo as a requirement, a category called 99.92%, the run would still take 80 hours and is arguably a *harder* run since you have less time to distribute and pace yourself.
That ain't what happened at all in Baten Kaitos Origins you ARE the ancient "god" Malpercio and it turns out the world was being flooded by some weird guy with an anime spiky thing floating behind him who was using weird sparkly magic on people and brainwashing them, and making it rain all the time so you all have to live on a boat I think. And then somehow you go from being a friendly ghost to choking on the whole Ocean and then the continents float up into the sky. So it wasn't stealing.
Not really since Xelha was the one that had the ocean inside her. Malpercio was just a collection of God bodyparts that were split after an ancient war
My youtube app crashed exactly when that run of Skies of Arcadia died and finished with the actual disc getting snapped in 2 pieces, the timing was perfect lol
I think it would be interesting for you to compare every single Pokemon Gen like this to see which Gen is the fastest speedrun-wise and which is the slowest.
I’d also include the times of both any% and 100% or glitchless runs of each, just to show how much faster the times are when you can use glitches compared to when you can’t. I like this idea though and I’d totally watch that video!
the Fire Emblem 1 speedrun is also pretty short, at about 4 and a half minutes. It doesn't even technically use a glitch, just a debug menu built into the game. You have to complete the first map, and then when the character Anna appears to ask if you want to save your game, you enter some button commands to get to the debug menu. In the debug menu you can get to the sound test menu, and if you choose the end credits song it just literally plays the end credits, and then goes back to the main title screen afterwards, as if the game had ended. The main problem with this is there's no way to manipulate the RNG, and it requires a bit of luck to get to the end of the map quickly. The boss has high hit avoid, but the run requires you to hit him twice without missing in order to do it right. Unfortunately, there is no way to get around that, so if you miss either one of those hits, you have to start over.
@@boredgoddesstori6635 For me it took forever to realize that I was suppose to heal the mother boss. I think it was called something like that it’s been so long. I was calling people on the telephone to tell them I was looking at the end screen and no one believed me lol.
There's one RPG I love to "speedrun" and it's Final Fantasy V in a Four Job Fiesta setting. My fastest run with both superbosses defeated is 8h23mnXXsecs
I remember there was an RPG marathon that people ran to see how many other RPGs could be finished while Baten Kaitos was idling in the background for the 100% run. People got a lot of runs done in that week.
Who even played an rpg for 350h on a single playthrough to find out one of their card evolves?? I love rpgs and frequently replay them but to have that many hours in a single run? Makes my brain hurt.
way back in the day when the run was 15 hours long, i was involved in the skies of arcadia speedrunning community. fun fact; i believe somewhere in the ballpark of 7 to 8 hours of the game is cutscenes, so for the run to be 10 1/2 hours is pretty monumental. the game is made pretty watertight with very little room to play with in terms of possible skips.
World Court Tennis, which I routed, can be completed in under an hour by skipping both all six bosses and the Magical Ball, which also makes the final boss faster (although more challenging). It's one of the shortest runs of an RPG I can think of.
This one is funny to me. I’ve done the Lufia 2 glitch and it’s pretty difficult to pull it off quick let alone under a minute. But I played the whole game multiple times as a kid and never saw a glitch outside of the 2 rooms that weren’t coded right. Now, it’s pretty easy to activate glitches everywhere. We also played daggerfall (early elder scrolls game) a lot as kids and “speedran” it every time we played as it was too complicated to play normally. Take a shortcut out of the dungeon you start in, jump to a town, but the right spells and launch to the few story triggers. As for these crazy long ones, 100% runs always felt weird to me. While it’s my favorite way to play casually, the rules for 100% speed runs always feel kind of arbitrary. Once you are doing a 100% glitchless run it often takes a lot of the fun out of speed running and turns into play the game fast. No glitches, no sequence breaks, often not even deeply coded mechanics to beat impossible bosses because you can just grab a few more levels while you grab ever item.
I believe Baffan put out a tweet that mentioned the run will take about the same amount of time. The HD remasters are apparently not well optimized and there's things like input latency that make the original game(s) better to run
@@DoctorSwellman wild. still, glad it's out there now for people who don't have the hardware or willingness/knowledge to do the ol' yohoho on the original
It's baffling to me how Bandai Namco added a speed-up function to the HD remaster and made Magnus aging EXPLICITLY NOT AFFECTED BY IT, despite that being the absolute biggest reason to use a speed-up function in either game. *Thanks Bamco*
It's a shame some LOLcalizer took an axe to the HD re-release of Baten Kaitos. Someone was power tripping *hard* with total random changes that just do nothing but make the game worse. The changes make no sense, actually make it less accurate to the Japanese text, and forced the removal of the dubs from both games (BK1's is no loss, but BKO's is actually pretty good). Eating beef? Change it to some fictional meat substitute (nevermind that the "beef" was introduced in the translation and it's just "curry" in Japanese). The clouds that keep the surface sealed off from the floating islands have a name? Just replace every instance with the generic descriptor "toxic clouds". Option to play as a female character? Needs to be cut for reasons. These changes were so necessary, that they were only made to the English version: Every other language is unaltered (including the female character option, which went beyond text and image changes to remove a segment of dialog and make new art for the save screen to hide the missing choice). I love both games, and would have recommended everyone play the re-release, but Namco Bandai America went out of their way to make the game worse. As is, I actively encourage everyone to avoid it and play the original. With this and the PC port being unceremoniously released with no promotion (not even a prior announcement) during a crowded release period (including one major game published by them!) tells me Namco Bandai America wanted the re-release to fail.
My favorite thing about Baten Kaitos is that I know exactly why it took 14 days to do that and why it takes longer then actually playing the game from start to finish normally. It's all definitely 100% the aging mechanics of some of the Magnus. Like the Shampoo is the longest one, but there's also several more that take several real-time days to fully evolve into another form, such as getting Wonder MOMO or the Gold Nugget or the Terrible Painting's aged form. Heck, you'll probably get to Wazn before you get The Warrior's Memories, because their Mementos legit take super long to age.
Those are mostly jRPGs. If you looked at more western ones you'd find gems like Two Worlds (1minute 41 seconds) and Fallout 1 (55 seconds, or 4 minutes 55 for a good ending) - both let you run straight to the main villain and kill them right after beginning the game to trigger the ending (Two Worlds unintentionally, but Fallout 1 fully intentionally because the game gives player total freedom).
On the flipside, Fallout 4 theoretically lets you max out all your stats if you play long enough and get enough levels. Nobody runs this as an actual category, probably because it'd take 160 hours of active playtime to accomplish. It has been routed, just nobody was crazy enough to try this.
I didn't realise Baiten Kaitos took that long to beat, as Xenoblade was about hundred hours, but it felt a lot longer than that, and i've completed both games, as well as The Last Story, who's hard mode is nearly impossible.
There are a few video game moments that have managed to break me... Mother 3's ending... Mystery Dungeon Explorer's ending as well... LISA: The Painful's wild moments... I can now count "Eb, bevebu "erl ave"ho bmyself[" from Lufia II in that category.
People clowning on the Bison are the funniest shit to me. This dude is literally 0.2% player base and would easily whoop every single one of you. I also love how the people that are quick to point and laugh tend to be awful by comparison and more skilled players don't do this in the first place
